Originally announced in 2021 as a special that would air on Cartoon Network. It was unceremoniously canceled, presumably new boss David Zaslav looking for more tax write-offs (see also Batgirl). In November 2023, it was announced the special would hit digital store fronts in a matter of days; a very rare reversal for Warner-Discovery projects that have been unceremoniously canceled and unreleased in the 2020s. It would later be added to MAX in the holiday season of 2024.
Mr. Kalan is named for Elliot Kalan, a writing partner of Wyatt Cenac.
