I enjoyed this film, mostly for the performances of the younger members of the cast, who out-acted the adults without exception. It's always good to see young talent coming through, and I'll be watching out for them in the future.
The film was a fun, rainy afternoon movie for all the family and it had a clear story and plot.
The adults in the cast could learn a thing or two from the kids, who demonstrated their ability to cope with both the humorous and dramatic parts of their roles. Most of the adults' performances were somewhat wooden, so the kids were giving them an acting master class throughout.

This movie is just not good
It has it's moments with a few good jokes, but generally it is not a very good film.
The acting was not amazing and the filmaking is not that far behind either.
The music wasn't half bad actually.
The villain of the movie was not good.
My favourite character was probably Willow the girl who befriends our protagonist and believes she is a witch.
Very little CGI was used but it was bad, (not horrible, don't get me wrong).
The first part of the movie was really boring, but the second was enjoyable. The ending felt rushed to me, ( didn't enjoy that).
I would not rewatch this movie, a lot of stuff that happened came out of nowhere and they repeated phrases over and over again so it became boring.

Ignore the comments made by teen boys about this movie, this movie is not for them. It was made for a family audience and is a wonderful story about friendship filled with lots of mystery and adventure that kids from 5-12 will really enjoy. Young Elliott moves with his mom, Denise Richards, to a new small town. There he meets the mysterious Willow a self professed witch and town outcast. Together they go on a fun adventure to save the town from a witches curse. It's a great movie to watch in late Fall as the Fall colours are really beautiful, and lend to the spirit of Halloween. The kids are really great in this film, our kids really enjoyed watching them. The bad guy Mr. Hexenmeister is also very well played. We highly recommend this movie for your entire family.

Terrible acting by the two kids and even though I respect and like Denise Richards, this does not do her justice! There's a part where Willow is reading Elliot a part of the book ( 44 minutes in) and is saying about a warlock coming to the town and taking revenge. It then shows the page she is reading from and her finger moving along, pause it, you can then read about a conversation between King Arthur and Lancelot!! Nothing to do with warlocks and witches. The acting of these two is very amateur, and its no wonder they've only done 7 movies/TV between them. The person who give this movie a 9 and raved about it has certainly led a sheltered life OR was part of this drabble of a movie!
Our entire family really enjoyed this terrific adventure story. Such superb acting from two young performers, especially the girl, what a hoot she was. I expect we'll be seeing more from her in the future. This is a great story filled with twists and turns as two bright kids work together to unravel a deeply held town secret and save it from destruction. Lot's of great locations and well done visual effects make this film a real feast for the viewer. Denise Richards is as beautiful as ever as the mom and investigative journalist. This is a very well written and intelligent script, filled with a lot of laughs. We loved the dog, hilarious!
