A pleasant watch
Had somewhat low expectations going in, but I was pleasantly surprised to find this was another solid Yoji Yamada film. I should've had more faith, because of the 70+ films of his I've seen, almost none have been letdowns.
There's aspects of this I wish were altered a little, as it's not a flawlessly executed film all the way through, but it has plenty of nostalgic charm, and the emotions Yamada is an expert at injecting into his films shine through. I also love movies that are love letters to movies, and this one does that premise in a super blatant way that some may feel is cheesy, but it largely worked for me.
