The film is based on a play of the same name, also written and directed by Carla Smith, that was performed at various South African festivals. Most of the cast also featured in the play.
The whole film was shot inside the Baxter Theater in Cape Town. The much sought-after theater was only available because of a COVID lockdown.
The whole film was shot in 5 days.
A month before principal photography, Carla Smith, Conradie van Heerden, and Melissa Myburgh were in the cast of Laastes, directed by Beer Adriaanse (the technician Martin in Lycra & Petticoats). Both films were shot by Johannes Nel.
