The film was shot in one day.
Santi was selected as one of 50 films from 1,000 submissions to be part of the BFI Future Film Festival Official Programme 2022. It was screened in the 450-seat NFT1 theatre at the BFI Southbank on 19th February.
During shooting, lead actor Jon Gutierrez (Santi) was kept separate from all cast members apart from Zulekha Chaka (Violet) by director Harry Richards, to help create a real sense of alienation on screen between Santi and the other characters.
The story of 'SANTI' is based on London-born director Harry Richards' own experience living in Bogotá, Colombia, but in reverse. The script was also infused with anecdotes from Colombian executive producers Marvin Vivas and David Sierra Márquez, who have both spent time living in the UK. They ensured that Richards' depiction of the Colombian character was authentic.
The cast rehearsed and performed the entire film as a play the day before shooting, to help with the complex blocking and timing of the long takes.
