The Dundee Diehards, a Second Anglo-Boer War reenactment group founded in 1999, took part in the filming of battle scenes. 14 members of the group filmed scenes with Marius Weyers and Neil Sandilands in Bloemfontein in September, 2007.
Jana Cilliers and Lika Berning are real-life mother and daughter and play the same character, Magrieta van Wyk, in the series, with Jana Cilliers portraying her as an older person.
Marius Weyers, who stars in this production, had a previous working relationship with playwright P.G. du Plessis. In the 1970s, Weyers starred in the original theatrical production of du Plessis' play 'Siener in die suburbs' (Seer in the Suburbs) ,as well as the film version.
According to web sources, this was playwright/screenwriter P.G. du Plessis' first project in English. All of his previous work was written in Afrikaans.
