Perhaps predictably, Syfy has green-lit a third Sharknado movie, according to Adweek. The sequel, Sharknado 2: The Second One, premieres in July, but the low-budget schlocktaculars more or less spawn themselves. For some reason, Sharknado garnered a huge amount of attention last summer, even though it's ludicrous plot, garbagetown production values, and C-list cast define just about every Syfy movie. Where's the threequel for Mansquito? Or Dinocroc vs. Supergator? Dog Soldiers? Mongolian Death Worm? Frankenfish? Flu Bird Horror? Those are all real, and just as terrible as Sharknado.

Before the Graboids ever came along and started devouring people, the Sandworms roamed the Earth, in the Frank Herbert-created Dune franchise. Based on the Mongolian Death Worm of cryptid lore, the Sandworms are essentially massive worms with sharp rows of teeth, which call the desert home. Thanks to this fun recipe, they're making their way out of the desert, and onto the dessert menu!
Chris-Rachael Oseland runs the website Kitchen Overlord, where she fuses her passion for cooking with her love for all things geeky. She devoted last week's recipes to the world of Dune, wherein she created this edible Sandworm, in tribute to David Lynch's feature film adaptation of Herbert's novels.
All you'll need to make your very own Dune Sandworm cake are simple ingredients like yeast, eggs, butter and flour, and this bad boy comes infused with a tasty pumpkin pie spice filling, and topped off with a cinnamon sugar glaze.

Last year we came across a series of classy retro-style travel posters by artist & designer Fernando Reza, inviting curious and/or courageous explorers to visit the home turf of mythical monsters – including iconic cryptids like Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster and the Chupacabra (if you missed it, you can still check them out here). One year later, Reza has unveiled a second installment in the series, starring creatures that previously haunted our own news features – including the “Ningen” ice giants from Japanese legend (which were allegedly sighted in the Antarctic, as reported here) and the hideous Mongolian Death Worm (as seen in our “Cryptid Catalog” feature). Visit Fro Design Company for these and more of Reza's designs, including some sweet genre and cult movie poster concepts in the archives (Brotherhood of the Wolf, Re-Animator and American Werewolf in London designs are particularly choice).

A lot has changed since Alan Jones from Total Film coined the term Splat Pack referring to a group of gory movie makers who sought to stretch the boundaries of what would be considered acceptable in an R rated film. The sea of blood and guts that rolled across the cinema screen starting in 2002 gradually pulled back to low tide. PG-13 became the new R rating once again and the MPAA decided to pull itself up by its bootstraps to enforce its code. For the Splat Pack, originally consisting of Rob Zombie, Eli Roth (the Frank Sinatra of the Pack according to Quentin Tarantino), James Wan, Leigh Whannell, Robert Rodriquez (added later by association), Greg McLean, Neil Marshall, Alexadre Aja and Darren Lynn Bousman, filmmaking has gone as usual, and each has made a substantial contribution to the horror genre in a positive way, testing the limits of our stomach...

Our series on cryptozoology – the study of creatures whose existence has not yet been proven scientifically – began with a gaze into the red eyes of The Barghest Hound, a deadly beast of British legend. Today we're venturing into the barren wastelands of the Gobi Desert to examine a hideous specimen whose description dates back to ancient native folklore from the area, and continues to be reported even today: The Mongolian Death Worm. In native legends, the so-called “intestine worm” takes its nickname from its resemblance to a human intestinal tract. Stories about its exact appearance, size and behavior have varied over the generations, but it has been claimed to be over a yard long, blood-red in color, and can allegedly kill its prey by spitting acid and/or poison. Some tales include mention of its ability to emit an electrical charge (similar to the electric eel) to locate and incapacitate its living targets.

My mom is a huge fan of the SyFy Original kind of cinema that Doomsday Prophecy belongs to. She likes to describe these kinds of movies as “carnage candy”, which both disturbs me while also making me chuckle. That said, for those looking to sit back and enjoy some good ‘ole fashioned “carnage candy” as my dear ‘ole ma’ puts it, you’re in luck.
This movie is from the producers/geniuses behind Stonehenge Apocalypse and … wait for it … Mongolian Death Worm. The fact that a movie called Mongolian Death Worm exists blows my mind, and I’ll be seeking it out as soon as possible. After a series of bizarre geological and astrological events occur around the world and at the edge of our solar system, government officials, scientists and a proofreader at a publishing company seek out a modern day Nostradamus. Sorry for that horrific run-on sentence, but...

Wolves mate for life, but we learned in "BrotherFae of the Wolves" that friendships are not always bonded with the same strength.
With a flashback to the Middle Ages, we get a glimpse of Dyson's former life and his first encounter with the Norn. He was a member of a wolf pack that served a king. When his best wolf friend, Stephen, was ordered to take on a dangerous mission, Dyson went to the Norn to ask her to save his life. The Norn agreed, but only if Dyson would give up his wolf. That was an agreement he couldn't make.
When Stephen died, the King took his wife, Ciara. Dyson was furious and wanted to fight the King, but the wolf pack stood in the King's protection. And, Dyson left the pack and Ciara behind.
That's how Dyson became a lone wolf. And, it explained so much about why...

Ahead of Halloween, Lions Gate Home Entertainment have given us horror movie, Mongolian Death Worm to give away to three lucky winners. The movie is available to buy now but we want to give you the chance to win one!
Toxic. Carnivorous. Subterranean. An ancient and terrifying myth becomes reality in Mongolian Death Worm. A quest for oil turns into a fight for life as a team of engineers unwittingly disturb a gigantic and bloodthirsty creature intent on their destruction. Starring Sean Patrick Flannery (Saw: The Final Chapter), Mongolian Death Worm is yours to own on DVD this forthcoming Halloween.
When an American oil company sets up an experimental drilling plant out in the vast deserts of Mongolia, they are completely oblivious to what actually lies beneath them. Pumping hot water deep into the ground, the company is hoping to expose untapped oil, but what they end up uncovering is something no one ever expected.

Films like Steven R. Monroe’s 2010 SyFy original “Mongolian Death Worm” aren’t very difficult to review. It’s pretty simple stuff: You either like it or you don’t. There isn’t anything to dissect, nothing to chew over. In fact, “Mongolian Death Worm” is even easier to grade than other low-budget creature features, as it falls under what I like to call the “Tremors Technique”. Instead of critiquing the picture in a traditional manner, I assess the situation and score it against “Tremors” and its sequels. Since the installments in that series are automatically arranged from best to worst — “Tremors”, of course, being the high water mark — assigning a sequel to a monster movie like “Mongolian Death Worm” is a relatively easy task to accomplish. After all, just about every post-”Tremors” giant worm movie owes at least one thing or another to Ron Underwood’s camp classic.

Director Stephen R. Monroe recently rose to prominence in the horror community with his satisfying and well-received remake of the classic video nasty I Spit On Your Grave, and whilst that film has brought Monroe plaudits and kudos, it wasn’t always that way…
Monroe carved out his early career with numerous straight to DVD monster movies, and more recently a number of Syfy original movies. One such monster movie, Mongolian Death Worm, is set to receive a rare UK airing in June on Movies24. Written and directed by Monroe and starring former Young Indiana Jones and Saw 3D star Sean Patrick Flanery, Drew Waters and George Cheung, the film sees:

Syfy and Korean monsters, machine-gun-toting Japanese schoolgirls, and some re-releases are the topics of this week's horror titles.
While Dinoshark (directed by Kevin O'Neill and starring Eric Balfour, Iva Hasperger, Aaron Diaz, Humberto Busto, Roger Corman) and Mongolian Death Worm (directed by Steven R. On top of that Chawz, the "Jaws with a wild boar" offering from Korea, and the hilariously unbelievable Machine Girl are vying for your purse strings all way from the Far East.
For the classically inclined, re-releases of Roger Corman's The Terror with a young Jack Nicholson, The Dorm That Dripped Blood, El Topo, as well as Francis Ford Coppola's Dementia 13 will keep you company this week.

There’s a lot going on in Mongolian Death Worm, the underachieving Syfy original movie directed by Steven R. Monroe. Is it the story of a self-described "scoundrel" hunting for treasure? Or is it the tale of a dedicated doctor trying to save a village from pestilence? Or is it the account of oil exploration run amok that is also a metaphor for the way humanity is looting the resources of Mother Earth to deadly consequence? One could say it's all those things, and maybe that's why Mongolian Death Worm fails to entertain as well as it might. Or maybe it's just because the filmmakers never deliver any more than is absolutely necessary. Yeah, that's probably it.

From the cable network that brought you such small screen gems as Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, Alien Apocalypse, and Mega Piranha comes the latest Syfy Original CGI-fest Mongolian Death Worm.
Although not a masterpiece, it's not as bad as you think. Sean Patrick Flanery brings a certain level of sweaty charm and the resident hot chick, Victoria Pratt, turns in a decent performance and certainly looks good doing it, but I wouldn't go so far as to recommend this. If you're at home alone on a Saturday night and it happens to come on SyFy channel and nothing else better is on then, by all means, tune in. I wouldn't miss a rerun of the Simpsons for it though.

The next time you have a free moment in your insanely chaotic lives, be sure to give some thanks to the folks who work those long, hard hours over at SyFy. If not for them, my love for the proverbial “creature feature” may never have been rekindled. Not only do I have a Bluray copy of “Sharktopus” on the way, I’m also the proud owner of “Mega Piranha”, a film I happen to hold in very high regard. I’m going to ask you not to judge me on this one, but I’m pretty sure you already have. Much appreciated. Lionsgate — a company I often shake my angry first at — is planning to unleash director and co-writer Steven R. Monroe’s goofy science fiction actioner “Mongolian Death Worm” on April 26th, 2011. As far as I can tell, the film will not appear on Bluray, though I’m hoping...

Oh, how the worm turned for Syfy. The all American B-Movie is resurrected from the dead and brought back to life by great crews and terrific actors playing along for posterity. Popcorn movie goodness alert for Syfy's "Mongolian Death Worm," which premieres Saturday May 8th at 9pm. Not sure if we've covered the project here already or not, but Mongolian Death Worm director Steven R. Monroe is remaking the classic 70s rape and revenge shocker, I Spit on Your Grave for Cinetel Films and Anchor Bay Ent. Interview by Kayley Thomas
Sean Patrick Flanery – When I told Heidi I’d set up an interview with him for Pretty/Scary, I think her heart might have stopped momentarily. Mine may have skipped a beat too. There’s a lot to love. He had that cute and creepy thing going for him in Powder. He was simply adorable (I mean, very manly) as Young Indiana Jones. He had the honor of getting ganked by Christopher Walken in Suicide Kings. He’s brought us some serious (and not-so serious) scares in Demon Hunter, The Masters of Horror’s The Damned Thing, Kaw, and The Insatiable, as well as episodes of Charmed, The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, and more recently, The Dead Zone. And he’s got some more sf/f and horror in the works: Deadly Impact hits DVD this April with Mongolian Death Worms and Scavengers slated for later in 2010. Plus,...
The Saw franchise has been going strong now for six films. Every Halloween since 2004 the killer Jigsaw has returned to play his games with hapless victims. Now actress, model and musician Jon Mack is ready to play as she joins the series in Saw VI. Of course there is more going on in this multitalented performer's world than just solving Jigsaw's puzzles; she's got two new films coming out on the SyFy channel and her band, Auradrone, is shaking things up musically with their album Whitelite Britelite. Now Jon takes some time out of her film and music career to talk about some her new projects, how she feels the internet has changed things in the music business, and why you may find her down at the gun range choosing between her Glock and a shotgun!

We now have a new favorite title for a Syfy original movie: Mongolian Death Worms! But bear in mind that they didn’t make up that moniker; it seems the Mongolian Death Worm is a cryptozoological species that has been reported and investigated for decades now, which makes it a surprise that Syfy didn’t catch up with it sooner.
The Worm supposedly ranges from 2 to 5 feet long and lives under the sands of the Gobi desert, from which it emerges to kill its prey via either spitting caustic acid or launching electrical shocks. As for its movie incarnation, Mongolian Death Worms recently lensed in Dallas, TX for Ogre and Wyvern director Steven R. Monroe, who scripted with Sea Beast’s Neil Elman. Veteran actor-turned-filmmaker Andrew Stevens produced, with Masters Of Horror: The Damned Thing’s Sean Patrick Flanery, House Of The Dead 2’s Victoria Pratt, George Cheung...
