When John Oates moved to Nashville in 2010 to work on his next solo album, he didn’t do what so many pop stars before him had done and pander to a mainstream country music audience. Instead, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member immersed himself in the city’s roots music community, collaborating with pickers, producers, and songwriters like Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and the late great Mike Henderson to create the celebration of Americana music Mississippi Mile.

“Addiction is a family disease,” says Jakob Nowell, the 28-year-old son of late Sublime frontman Bradley Nowell. “Rock & roll is a family disease, man. I seek to keep it in the family.”
Jakob bears an eerie sonic and physical resemblance to his dad, who was also 28 when he died of an overdose in 1996, cutting his band’s career short on the brink of superstardom. This April, at Coachella, Jakob will make his official debut as the new lead singer and guitarist of Sublime, alongside his dad’s original bandmates, drummer Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson.

The Coachella 2024 lineup is here in all of its glory, and joining headliners Lana Del Rey, Tyler the Creator, and Doja Cat will be two special ‘90s reunions: No Doubt and Sublime, the latter of which will perform with Jakob Nowell, son of the band’s original frontman, Bradley Nowell.
The reunited Sublime first came together in December 2023, when the band’s original bassist and drummer — Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh, respectively — enlisted Jakob to perform with them at a benefit concert for Bad Brains’ frontman, H.R. At the show, the trio was billed as “A special performance by Jakob Nowell, Eric Wilson, and Bud Gaugh,” but now, they have formally “reunited,” and will be playing as Sublime, right and proper.
As exciting as the reunion is, though, it isn’t too much of a surprise. After the trio announced their performance last month, the team that manages Sublime’s...

Sublime will be reuniting this year with Bradley Nowell’s son Jakob as the band’s frontman.
On Tuesday, Coachella announced its stacked lineup, including a reunion of Sublime’s original members. The band revealed soon after the announcement that Jakob will be joining the band’s original drummer Bud Gaugh and bassist Eric Wilson.
“This has so many layers for me. On a spiritual level, my father passed away when he was 28, and I am 28 now. It’s an honor to carry on with our family’s name and legacy with Sublime,...

Sublime members Eric Wilson (bass) and Bud Gaugh (drums) reunited to play a set of the band’s songs with late singer Bradley Nowell’s son Jakob on guitar and vocals on Monday night (December 11th). The gig at Los Angeles’ Teragram Ballroom was part of a benefit for legendary Bad Brains frontman H.R.
Prior to the show, Wilson hadn’t shared the stage with Gaugh for 10 years. Following Bradley’s passing in 1996, Wilson and Gaugh formed the act Sublime With Rome (featuring singer Rome Ramirez) in 2009, but Gaugh exited the outfit a couple years later citing his reluctance to play Sublime songs “without Brad.”
On Monday night, Jakob looked very much like his legendary dad as he performed shirtless alongside Wilson and Gaugh, playing eight Sublime songs. The trio kicked off the set with “April 29, 1992 (Miami),” and rocked classics like “Wrong Way,” “What I Got,” and “Santeria” along the way,...

Sublime’s original bassist, Eric Wilson, and drummer, Bud Gaugh, are reuniting for an upcoming performance featuring Jakob Nowell, the son of the band’s original frontman, Bradley Nowell, on vocals.
The performance will take place in Los Angeles on December 11th at a benefit concert for Bad Brains’ frontman, H.R. It marks the first time that the younger Nowell — who was 11-months-old when his father died in 1996, and has been touring in his own right for over a decade — will join the former Sublime musicians. It also marks the first time that Wilson and Gaugh will perform together since the latter left Sublime with Rome in 2011, saying that it “felt wrong” to play Sublime songs “without Brad.”
The trio will not performing under the name “Sublime,” but according to Billboard, a more formal reunion may be on the horizon. Nowell is represented by Kevin Zinger with Regime Music Group,...

Post Malone is a fairly low-maintenance performer, one almost as likely to have a red Solo cup in his hand on stage as he is to be wielding a microphone. But his shows are usually only an hour or two, and naturally, there’s a distance between himself and the thousands of people in his audience. Currently, on a trip to New Zealand, the singer found a remedy for bridging this gap by hanging with and performing for unsuspecting bar-goers at Danny Doolan’s Irish Pub for four hours.

Argentina’s Tarea Fina, a producer on Cannes Camera d’Or winner “Las Acacias,” International Oscar entry “The Sleepwalkers” and Ventana Sur hit “Sublime,” has boarded “A Loose End,” the third feature as a director from Uruguay’s Daniel Hendler, a Berlin Silver Bear winner for Best Actor in Daniel Burman’s 2004 international breakout “The Lost Embrace.”
Set up at Montevideo’s Cordon Films, founded in 2007 by producer-tv director Micaela Solé and Hendler, “A Loose End” (“Un cabo suelto”) is one of the highest-profile projects announced on Monday by the San Sebastián Festival as part of its Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum, its industry centerpiece.
Written by Hendler, his third directorial outing returns to a central theme in his first two features as a writer-director: Identity. In his 2011 debut, “Norberto’s Deadline,” a loser real estate agent discovers his true calling and more confidence as an actor.

A jury made up of members of Gehitu, the Basque Association of Gays, Lesbians, Transexuals and Bisexuals, has short-listed five Latin American films for the XI Sebastiane Latino Award, to be presented during the 71st San Sebastian Festival. The selected titles are Almamula, Cross Dreamers, El filo de las tijeras, El silencio de los hombres and Transfariana.
The award goes to the Latin American feature film that best defends the demands and values of the Lgbtiqa+ community. In 2023 two women and three men directors represent this defence the length and breadth of the continent with four productions from Argentina and one from Colombia.
“This selection reflects the plurality and diversity of Lgbtiqa+ realities and particularly those of trans people”, says Gehitu. The collective stresses that this representation proves how “Lgbti-phobia is the result of toxic masculinity, something which is diluted time and again thanks to education, information and citizen dialogue”. They add that,...

This post contains spoilers for "Westworld" season 4, including the series finale.
HBO's "Westworld" had the misfortune to end just as ChatGPT was making itself known and the world was becoming aware of how far real-life AI has come. It's tempting to read into that, not to mention co-showrunner Jonathan Nolan's parting comments about "our AI overlords." Like, maybe the AI canceled "Westworld" for getting too close to the truth.
What's clear is that actor Jeffrey Wright's journey as AI programmer Bernard Lowe has reached its end on "Westworld." Wright no longer has to worry about getting bored with his character, since some all-powerful AI HBO has officially canceled the show after four seasons, giving him and other main cast members a nice severance package in the form of millions. However, there was a time when Wright doubted whether Bernard would be able to sustain his interest as an actor.

Martín Miller in Sublime
In spring 2022, independent Argentinian film Sublime hit the festival circuit and began a journey which saw it charm audiences all around the world. Following the lives and loves of a group of teenagers who play together in a band, it looks at what happens when friendship turns into something more and a seemingly unbreakable bond between two boys is put to the test. When it screened at BFI Flare, I took the opportunity to talk to director Mariano Biasin and ask him how he found a young cast with such amazing chemistry.
“It was a big casting,” he says. “We started making the casting before the pandemic, I had a group that I had already chosen, but in the middle of nowhere, we had to stop for the pandemic. And then one year after, we had to recast, and that's where Martín Miller, the main actor,...

A sequel to the 2005 supernatural Keanu Reeves film “Constantine” is in the works at Warner Bros., and both Reeves and director Francis Lawrence are expected to return, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Akiva Goldsman is writing the screenplay and will also produce the new film alongside Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella serving as producers.
Lawernce’s directorial debut, which made 230 million worldwide, starred Reeves as an exorcist and demonologist brought in to help prove that the death of a detective’s sibling was not a suicide but something more sinister. The original also starred Rachel Weisz, Djimon Hounsou, Shia Labeouf and Tilda Swinton, and it was based on a comic book series called “Hellblazer” by Jamie Delano and Garth Ennis.

In a world which is constantly telling girls how to behave and who to be, Alli Haapasalo’s Sundance hit comes as a breath of fresh air. Later screened at Inside Out, it’s the story of three young women navigating the challenges of early adulthood, and it manages to combine a focus on sex and sexuality with an innate wholesomeness which makes it effortlessly endearing. These are lives lived naturally, setting aside the pressures and prejudices of the wider world, in a space where men are peripheral. They’re still fraught with problems, but, like Mariano Biasin’s Sublime, another of this year’s festival favourites, they provide a glimpse into a world of freedom.
Emma (Linnea Leino) is a figure skater in training, committed to the sort of regime which might not seem like freedom, but she’s doing something she genuinely loves and she seems to have good people around her.
