Actor Joaquín Arana (Fran) stated that he had never sung through a microphone before in his life.
Sound designer Gaspar Scheuer suggested to record the voices of the actors when singing on the real takes during the shooting, instead of having them recorded in studio for playback as it was previously planned. Both director and film composer agreed that this suggestion made the band sound much more fresh realistic.
More than 1000 actresses sent material to be considered for the role of Azul. Casting department chose about 50 candidates to have an in-person interview/audition. Azul Mazzeo was the very first to be interviewed. The fact that her name matches the name of the character was a coincidence.
