During filming in the Desert of San Bernardino (CA), the Production van got stuck in the sand. Since one of the actors only could come in the early evening to shoot the scene, we had to hurry up with the takes and had to dig out the van after sunset. The Producers went to get some more shovels in the meantime, so that the whole crew could help digging out the wheels in the dark and to pull the van out of the ditch, which we finally also managed. While rushing back to L.A. (2 hours drive), the driver was mistaken with one of the roads and this one happen to have a dead End. He realized that too late and the car flew in a ditch with the actors. As the 2nd car with the rest of the crew finally could locate us, we managed to pull the car out of the ditch, could cancel the 911 call and even drive back in the car. The car got a bit damaged underneath & had to be serviced afterward.
There was a distinct lack of actors with Latin background for this short Film, so the Filmmakers had to choose from a limited choice of three, but still got the ideal actors for the head roles.
The place, where the scene at the trailer was filmed, belonged to a "minuteman" and the Filmmakers had to ensure that the actors were not drawn into heated discussions over political issues.
Received a Silver Sierra Award in the Student Film Category at the "Yosemite International Film Festival 2009" in California and another Award for Best Screenwriting at the "Festival de Cine de Granada 2010" in Spain.
For the YouTube upload of "Border Stories" on 5th December 2009 the Term "Illegal Immigration" was added to the Title. Until 20th August 2021 it received 501'754 views. Then it was taken Offline from YouTube since some actors didn't feel well to be so publicly present with many racist Online comments. It was a pleasant success at Festivals and Online, but new projects are the future Focus.
