Broken Rules

This portends to be a classic whodunit in the Christie style. Unfortunately, the plot is so complex and the execution of it so far fetched that it's a real task to stay with it. Morse has been a mess. He has embraced alcoholism and it has undermined his gifts. Thursday has had enough. Meanwhile, the disappearance of Thursday's son hangs over everything.. The fact that all the principles end up at a run down hotel is way over the top. The explanation of the numbers and all that is so obtuse it's beyond simple understanding. If this is the final episode, it's a bleak ending to a very good series.
