The idea of the film is based on the director's own experience when a long-term relationship of his ended. He felt the urge to know what his ex was doing and wondering whether she was happy. He had the urge to follow her. Actually he never followed this urge, but a filmic character was born
The synopsis of the film was written in 2006. It was December when it landed on the desk of the Producer. Writing the script took 4 years. Financing took another two years. The last money came in from Hamburg in June 2012.
Casting the main character already started in 2010. Many Dutch and Flemish actors have tried, but in the end Juda Goslinga took the main part in 2011. Casting the two main female parts took place beginning of 2012 with Juda present to do the castings.
