Fox’s The X Factor, after having to split the singing show vote with NBC’s The Voice last week, this Wednesday enjoyed an uptick, drawing 9.4 million total viewers and a 3.4 rating, marking gains of 8 percent and a tenth of a point.
While X Factor led the night in the coveted 18-49 demo, it was the season premiere of Survivor: Philippines that drew the biggest crowd with 11.2 million total viewers — a 7 percent bump from last September and the long-running series’ best premiere audience in two years.

You’ll tune in every week to see their bright, shining faces, but no one would blame you from running from the theaters when they’re newest pictures come out. The following is a list (though certainly not a definitive one) of a list of the wonderful actors and actresses who shine on the small screen, but can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to the opening week box office. Some names might just surprise you, as they did me when I did the necessary research. Love them or hate them (though, I’ll bet you love most of them), here are six fantastic television actors with hardly any good movies (if any).
Note: this list does not include roles in animated films, directing, writing, or producing credits, or cameos (playing themselves or another character). Television movies and mini-series do not count as cinematic endeavors. I ask...

Hey everyone! Been a while since I have done a article but I hope to have this one up every week again! Lots of movies came out this week! Whoo hoo! Let's get you a run down, shall we? First up!
Priest
In this horror-thriller based on the popular comic book series, Paul Bettany plays Priest, a man-of-the-cloth hell-bent on rescuing his niece while taking down a horde of rampaging vampires in the process. With a terrific cast that includes Karl Urban, Maggie Q, Christopher Plummer and Brad Dourif, this is a genre-bending apocalyptic action movie that's every bit as wild and blood-soaked as its source material.
Let me just say that I really enjoyed this movie. I saw it in the theatre and it was shorter then I had hoped it was going to be but I thought it was a fun watch. Paul Bettany, Maggie Q and Karl Urban,...

Welcome back to Fsr’s weekly look at new DVD releases hitting shelves both real and virtual! It’s a relatively slow release week with nothing worth buying, but there’s still a minor theme involving three historically solid directors whose latest work shows them to be in major slumps. Luc Besson, John Carpenter and Robert Redford, I’m looking at you. Other releases this week aside from The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec, The Ward, and The Conspirator include Cary Fukunaga’s pretty but bland Jane Eyre, the hilarious clergy molestation comedy Priest, and the latest season of Showtime’s Dexter series. As always, if you see something you like, click on the image to buy it. The Bang Bang Club Four photographers in South Africa become fast friends as they cover the bloodshed and warfare accompanying the end of apartheid. The film, based on a memoir by two of them, highlights...

Title: The Best and the Brightest Director: Josh Shelov Starring: Neil Patrick Harris, Bonnie Somerville, Amy Sedaris, Jenna Stern, Peter Serafinowicz, Christopher McDonald, Kate Mulgrew, Bridget Regan, John Hodgman, Stephen Park, Kelly Coffield Park Most big screen comedies — even a lot of independently mounted affairs — trade in the familiar, at least on a narrative level, operating under the assumption that audiences want to see witty banter and outlandish comeuppance visited upon recognizable scenarios that are easily transposed to a viewer’s own life, whether that’s workplace misery or the fickle nature of love. It’s unusual, then, to see something like The Best and the Brightest, a movie which eschews a more...

The Best and the Brightest, a 2010 comedy film starring Neil Patrick Harris (TV’s How I Met Your Mother) and Bonnie Somerville (The Ugly Truth) about the extraordinary lengths a couple must go to in order to get their daughter into a New York City private kindergarten, is coming to DVD on Aug. 16 from New Video for a list price of $19.97.
Bridget Regan comes to grips with Neil Patrick Harris in The Best and the Brightest.
The “extraordinary lengths” develop after an eccentric consultant (Amy Sedaris, TV’s Strangers with Candy), wangles an interview for Jeff (Harris) and Samantha’s (Somerville) daughter via lying to the school board by claiming that Jeff is a renowned poet, when he’s actually a humble computer programmer. To keep his daughter’s chances alive, Jeff is forced to play the role of a raunchy “sexting” poet for the school’s senior administration.

Director Rob Masciantonio who brought us the epic gorefest that was Neighbor has given us a heads up on what's next for him. He's announced his next project will be a short film called Fairyland and has plans to submit it to Sundance this summer.
Fairlyland deals with taking characters from myths and fables and puts them in a world where Soprano-types are real. There's a Facebook page set up for the short now so head over and check it out.
Personally I've read the script and it looks like a lot of twisty fun, especially at the end of course! There will be several Neighbor alumnus joining Masciantonio on this project including Pete Postiglione, Stink Fisherand Brea Bee with Josh Bender producing and you might even get to see a "certain geek" appear in it somewhere, who knows.

This week’s trailers feature beautiful, half-naked men. Loads of them. Seriously, it’s like there was a fire alarm in the dressing rooms of the hot guy store and everyone had to ditch their clothes and seek shelter inside a movie trailer. First off, we’ve got a cut-from-marble Ryan Gosling baring (almost) all in our first look at the Steve Carell rom-com Crazy, Stupid, Love. After you’ve watched that one on frame-by-frame a few dozen times (I’m not saying I did), see Joseph Gordon-Levitt strut around in his undies in the Sundance dramedy Hesher, co-starring Natalie Portman,...

HollywoodNews.com: Neil Patrick Harris may be best known for his television roles on ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and ‘Doogie Howser M.D.’ but he’s also made plenty of movies from ‘Clara’s Heart’ opposite Whoopi Goldberg to his hilarious turns in the ‘Harold and Kumar’ flicks. He also got terrific reviews for the otherwise panned ‘Beastly’ earlier this year.
But this summer, Nph will have his biggest film role in years as a lead in the comedy ‘The Best and the Brightest.’
He plays a dad looking to get his daughter into a prestigious kindergarten in New York City. In order to impress school admissions officials, he pretends he’s a poet and ends up becoming the toast of the town.

Some of you grumble because we here at Pajiba often pre-judge a movie or TV show based on nothing more than a description, an image, or a teaser. But isn't that the job of the Hollywood marketing machine? To convince us that this, this product, is worth our hard-earned shekels? Some projects have the huge advantage of snagging a really likable star. One you may think would never steer you wrong. (Well, hardly ever.) An actor so likable, the mere mentions of their three-letter nickname puts a smile on your face. Jgl! (See?) Nph! (I told you.) And sometimes, even with those people on board, the marketing department still finds a way to f*ck it up.

The Good: Jgl! Natalie Portman! Positive festival buzz!

It looks like Neil Patrick Harris is having a very busy year movie-wise what with the ghastly Beastly and the upcoming Smurf movie. Turns out he's got another movie coming out this summer called The Best and The Brightest about a married New York couple faced with the trauma of getting their kid into the right ... kindergarten.
It's a New York thing.
In an attempt to impress the "right" people, Jeff (Harris) pretends to be a poet which leads to a series of, well, watch the clip and see for yourself!

Think kindergarten is just a place where little people learn when paste-eating is appropriate? Think again. To a certain subset of neurotic New York City parents, getting your kid into the right kindergarten is of paramount importance — because it’s the first step toward eventually winning admission to Harvard. Though the absurdity of Manhattan’s cutthroat admissions process has been covered before in both novels and a documentary, it hasn’t taken center stage in a major movie … until now.

Call him the ee cummings of dirty text messages. Or, the plagiarist of the ee cummings of dirty text messages.
Neil Patrick Harris stars in the upcoming film, "The Best and the Brightest," as a boring, It professional dad looking to get his daughter into a prestigious kindergarten (note: they live in New York City, where these things happen). He has no prestige of his own to offer -- until he gets coerced into to pretending that he's a poet.
Of course, he's never written a thing past his high school yearbook, but he's got a friend with a writer's touch. In comes Peter Serafinowicz, star British comedian, who has a thing with words. In text messages. Dirty text messages.
Farcical escalations ensue, with Patrick Harris suddenly becoming the toast of clueless New York City high society.
The film hits theaters this summer; watch the trailer below.

Neil Patrick Harris has been cast as a 'singing' batman villain in the animated series Batman: The Brave And The Bold. According to Buddy TV, the star of CBS’s “How I Met Your Mother” will lend his smooth vocals as the ‘Music Meister’ the Dark Knight's foe in an episode in the coming season. Here is how series producer James Tucker described the character and plot to the folks at Buddy TV: “[He is a] former band camp nerd turned megalomaniac ... [The] plot itself is just a framework, an excuse to have everybody sing!” Clearly that will be hilarious and despite having never seen this animated Batman incarnation, the involvement of Nph has me looking forward to this release -- which will be previewed for attendees of Comic-Con in San Diego later this month. The episode titled 'Mayhem Of The Music Meister' will be shown during a panel discussion on June 24th in San Diego (which of course means a...
