- On the road. When his wife dies, the village troubadour, who's known for miles around for his accordion playing, his singing, and his ability to improvise music and lyrics, straps the accordion on his back and abruptly leaves on his donkey. A village lad runs after him and asks to go with him. The journey begins. It seems that the troubadour has quit playing and wants to return the accordion to its old owner. The trip takes them past cowboys, a village holding a music competition, to the mountain-side cabin of the troubadour's brother, and on toward the instrument's owner.
