The animated inserts, which help to punch up the comedy, were the brain child of director/producer Frank Oliver. At first designed to be a cheap way to produce the special effects (like the cat/toad kidnapping and the ensuing chase), the animated inserts soon became a vehicle to augment the comedy and provide some quick elements of the characters' back-stories.
All exterior cul-de-sac shots were filmed within two miles of SEATAC international airport. The producers were thrilled with the location, until the first day of filming, when noise from planes flying overhead became a major interruption to contend with. This made for some very long days on the set.
The feline featured in this short that played Roses' pet feline, "Honeybuns" was a breed called an "Exotic Shorthair". He was owned and handled by me, Ann Schurman.
His real name was "Christian" & along with his sister and litter-mate "Muslim" they were both rescued from the King County Animal Shelter in Kent by Judi Peterson with Cat Purebred Rescue (bless her soul)
Christian's loving, pleasing, & social personality lent himself to be was easily trained on set to respond as a most dogs do.
