Gareth Evans initially completed production of Havoc in 2021 – but now it’s heading off for reshoots, and a delay to 2025.
Despite wrapping production all the way back in 2021, we didn’t hear anything about Gareth Evans Havoc for a very, very long time. So long in fact, that we were beginning to wonder if the film had been quietly shelved.
It wouldn’t be the first time that Netflix had abandoned a film in post-production, look back at the recently-announced scrapping of the Halle Berry film The Mothership as Exhibit A, if you need evidence that the Silicon Valley company can be pretty ruthless if it feels a project isn’t cutting the mustard.
However, things took a turn for the positive last month when it emerged that Havoc was still alive and well, with its debut being set on Netflix set for later this year.

The Raid director Gareth Evans’ latest film, Havoc, finished shooting in 2021 – three years on, it’ll stream on Netflix in late 2024, a report says.
An ominous silence has hung over Havoc, the latest film from The Raid director Gareth Evans, which led to some speculation that Netflix might have quietly scrapped it. Filming on the thriller wrapped in 2021, and little has been heard from the production since – Havoc was also conspicuously missing from Netflix’s roster of films scheduled for release in 2024, which emerged in February.
Netflix has form when it comes to abandoning films in post-production – see the sorry tale of The Mothership, the Halle Berry sci-fi adventure we’ll never see – hence why there have been some concerns over Havoc's ongoing safety.
A new report, however, suggests that Havoc is still alive and well, with its debut on Netflix set for later this year. According to World of Reel's source,...

Exclusive: Netflix has picked up UK rights to Kaur, a short film that debuted last year on British streamers Itvx and BritBox.
The film is set to drop on Netflix in the second window on May 3 following the deal for film, which is from Parvinder Shergill and Juggy Sohal. Shergill stars opposite Stephen Uppal (Hollyoaks).
Kaur bills itself as “the first film in history” to follow the story of a British Sikh woman (Shergill), who decides to wear a turban for the first time against her father’s wishes. Her mother (Nina Wadia), is supportive of the decision, but struggles with the tensions it causes.
A full-length feature film version is in development, Shergill told Deadline, with her Pinder Productions and Sohal’s Flip The Script Network attached, the same production set-up as the short. Shergill, who along with filmmaking is an NHS doctor, will again play the lead role,...

Exclusive: At the 2021 Edinburgh TV Festival, the BBC and Netflix unveiled what the pair described as a landmark five-year disability partnership that would unearth a new generation of shows helmed by disabled talent.
But more than half of the partnership’s five-year time period has now elapsed and not one show has been revealed.
In recent months, sources from the UK drama and disabled TV communities have begun questioning the partnership, getting in touch with Deadline unprompted to query why a tie-up that was unveiled with such fanfare has so far failed to bear fruit.
“It’s slightly bizarre,” said one professional connected with disability programs. “I’ve heard nothing from anyone to be honest. No one can get a definitive answer.”
The partnership came in the wake of a blistering Edinburgh TV Festival MacTaggart broadside from Help writer Jack Thorne, who slammed the UK TV industry for “totally and utterly” failing disabled people.

Cancelled Netflix sci-fi thriller The Mothership was “full of mystery and threat” and had “the makings of a classic,” its storyboard artist tells us.
In January, news broke that Netflix had made the decision to scrap The Mothership – a sci-fi thriller starring Halle Berry that had been shot and was initially scheduled for release in 2023.
To date, the only official comment we’ve heard from Netflix came from interim content boss Bela Bajaria, who at a press event in February said there were “lots of issues during production, and so everybody just felt like it was the right thing to… do something else together eventually.”
The decision to abandon a relatively high-profile movie with some Oscar-winning talent attached is unusual – Bajara herself admitted that the situation was “rare” – though not unheard of. Over the past year, Warner Bros has infamously scrapped the likes of Batgirl, Scoob! 2 and Coyote Vs Acme.

Halle Berry Goes Down With The Mothership
It didn’t set off nearly the online uproar as did Warner Bros.’ decision to dynamite its $70 million Coyote vs. Acme action-animation hybrid, but another high-profile movie was recently, much more quietly, dumped. Netflix has grounded The Mothership, a Halle Berry sci-fi thriller directed by Oscar-nominated Bridge of Spies co-writer Matt Charman. The $40 million project started filming during the pandemic in 2021 and ran into one snafu after another — scheduling conflicts, reshoots, strikes and, most recently, continuity issues brought on by growth spurts among some of the children in its cast. During a Jan. 31 news conference, Netflix content chief Bela Bajaria cited “lots of production issues and story issues” for shelving the movie and insisted that “everybody just felt like it was the right thing to just not do it.” A source tells THR, however, that there may have been another reason Mothership got axed: Its biggest champion,...

Warner Bros is to scrap Coyote Vs Acme after all, a report says, with the studio having turned down offers from Netflix and Amazon.
For a while there, things looked positive for Coyote Vs Acme, the Looney Tunes comedy that Warner Bros was on the cusp of scrapping in November 2023. After a vocal backlash, it looked as though the studio had changed its mind, and was thinking about selling the film to another studio instead. According to a report published by The Wrap, however, the film may never be released after all.
Despite receiving offers from other firms – including Paramount, Netflix and Amazon – Warner Bros is reportedly still intent on deleting the film and claiming it as a tax write-off, seemingly because it couldn’t get the $75- to $80m asking price it was after. The Wrap (via Comicbook.com) even claims that studio boss David Zaslav still hasn’t bothered...

Netflix has unveiled some of the first footage for Season 3 of Bridgerton, as well as a quick look at Season 2 of Hwang Dong-hyuk’s survival drama series Squid Game.
Penelope’s (Nicola Coughlan) love life is a main focus of the upcoming third season of Bridgerton. In the teaser trailer above we see Penelope in a scene with Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), where her adoration for her best friend’s brother is pretty clear.
“Your eyes,” says Penelope in the trailer. “A most remarkable shade of blue. And yet somehow, they shine even brighter when you are kind. I might say something like that if you were a suitor.”
Per the official Season 3 logline: Penelope Featherington (Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably...

The streamer’s interim film head has spoken about the ‘rare’ move to scrap The Mothership, a sci-fi thriller in post-production
Netflix’s decision to scrap a nearly completed movie starring Halle Berry has been described as “a rare thing” during a preview event this week.
Post-production on The Mothership, a sci-fi thriller that finished filming in 2021, was scrapped last week with rumours of “significant reshoots” being too expensive and problems over using child actors who have since aged.

Netflix just unveiled the line-up of films they’ll be releasing in 2024, and missing from that list is the Halle Berry sci-fi movie The Mothership – which, as we reported last week, Netflix has decided not to release at all. At the time, their decision to scrap the movie was reminiscent of Warner Bros. scrapping the films Coyote vs. Acme, Batgirl, and Scoob! Holiday Haunt (as well as a couple other Scooby-Doo projects). But, while at a media event yesterday, Bela Bajaria, who is currently serving as chief of Netflix’s film division, said the producers of The Mothership agreed with Netflix that the movie shouldn’t be released. This is different from what goes on at Warner Bros., where filmmakers are shocked and upset to hear their work is being tossed in the trash.

Last week, Netflix did what is unfortunately becoming common practice around Hollywood: They killed a nearly completed movie, Halle Berry’s sci-fi title The Mothership.
Essentially, the Matthew Charman-directed movie was in postproduction, and for all the changes that were required, it would have been impossible to do reshoots on the title completed in 2021 due to the child actors who are now grown up.
No bruised eyes: Reportedly, MRC and the pic’s producers Automatik were fully onboard with the decision, with Netflix pointing out that they’re still in business with Berry on an upcoming Mark Wahlberg action title The Union (August 16), not to mention the streamer has a film deal with the Best Actress Oscar winner.
While it’s been a motif for the David Zaslav-run Warner Bros Discovery to kill movies at Netflix, Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria says,...

Netflix has unveiled the slate of TV series set to release new seasons in 2024, and some of the streamer’s biggest series are not on the list, delayed by the writers and actors strikes.
Stranger Things‘ fifth and final season, which just started production earlier this month, will not debut until 2025, making for a three-year gap between both Seasons 3 and 4 (due to the pandemic) and Seasons 4 and 5.
Given the extensive VFX work involved in the series, which was originally slated to start filming Season 5 in May, the delay is not surprising.
Ditto for the series that dethroned Stranger Things as Netflix’s most popular series, Wednesday, which is not scheduled to begin production on Season 2 until late April in a new location, Ireland, and breakout new 2023 drama One Piece, which also is yet to start filming on its second season.

It’s already been a busy 2024 for Netflix. Out is long time film chief Scott Stuber; in are live sports (sort of), a huge Sundance splash, and 18 Oscar nominations, the most of any individual studio. What does the next 11 months have in store? Answer: a hell of a lot.
Netflix on February 1 released a teaser video for its biggest properties arriving in 2024, including more than 50 new movies and 90 new and returning series. The highlight is “Squid Game 2,” the follow-up season to the South Korean dystopian smash hit that became Netflix’s biggest show of all time.
At the end of Netflix’s mega-tease, we see Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and his new bright-red hair walking through an airport when a mysterious voice on his phone tells him, “You’re going to regret the choice you made.”
“I’m going to find you, no matter what it takes,” he says in return.

Could The Mothership have been 2024’s Ex Machina? We’ll never know, as the alien farm drama joins Batgirl in the dustbin of write-offs
Why would you scrap a movie that is all but finished before anyone except studio suits have had a chance to see it? The answer, for Hollywood bigwigs, is a tax write-off. In the last 18 months, Warner Bros has deleted a live-action Looney Tunes riff, Coyote vs Acme; the animated adventure Scoob! Holiday Haunt; and, most infamously, the $90m DC Extended Universe flick Batgirl. Now Netflix seems to be getting in on the act with news this week that the Halle Berry-led sci-fi tale The Mothership is also being axed before critics have had the chance to view it. Has it also fallen victim to the twisted machinations of nefarious accountants?

Back in 2021, a Netflix production called The Mothership was filmed with Halle Berry in the lead role and Bridge of Spies writer Matthew Charman at the helm, making his feature directorial debut. Unfortunately, there have been “multiple delays in post-production” for unspecified reasons… and now Variety has confirmed that Netflix has made the decision to scrap the film instead of completing post-production.
Most people thought it was a questionable move when Warner Bros. decided to scrap the films Coyote vs. Acme, Batgirl, and Scoob! Holiday Haunt for the purpose of tax write-offs, but apparently Netflix thought it was a good idea, since they’ve decided to do the same thing with this project.
If we had the chance to watch The Mothership, we would have found that the story of the sci-fi movie took place one year after the husband of Berry’s character mysteriously vanishes from their rural farm.

Even in the glut of Netflix content, some projects prove too troublesome for the streamer to release. Variety reports that after myriad post-production delays, Netflix won’t complete or release “The Mothership,” a sci-fi movie starring Halle Berry. The film wrapped filming back in 2021, but Netflix won’t finish work on the movie, shelving it permanently.

Road House director Doug Liman is not happy that the studio is refusing to give his film a theatrical release… and he’s making that point very, very clear.
Call us eternally optimistic, but we’ve got hopes that the upcoming Road House remake is going to be a fun time.
Jake Gyllenhaal is taking over the role played by the late, great Patrick Swayze and while he’ll undoubtedly bring a different energy to the role, there’s no doubting that Gyllenhaal comes up with the goods. It has the curiosity factor working in its favour too: the acting debut of UFC icon and headlines magnet Conor McGregor is another draw, as is the involvement of director Doug Liman, given that you never really know what you’re going to get when you sit down to watch one of his movies.

Netflix has shelved Halle Berry sci-fi The Mothership, Screen understands.
Production on the film wrapped in 2021 however the streamer elected not to continue after multiple delays in post-production.
The film centres on a mother who uncovers an alien object under her farmhouse which may solve the mystery of her husband’s disappearance a year prior. MRC was producing the film and Matthew Charman was the director.
The Mothership joins a line of Hollywood films which have been axed despite wrapping production. Warner Bros did this with its DC feature Batgirl, as well as animation Scoob! Holiday Haunt, and Coyote vs. Acme.

Halle Berry-led sci-fi thriller The Mothership will not be released after Netflix decided to stop post-production.
The Mothership, which completed filming in 2021, was originally set to be released in 2022 and a brief clip was teased by the streamer in a trailer for the year’s big releases. But the film was the victim of multiple delays and has now been scrapped entirely, according to Variety.

In a surprising development, Netflix will no longer be releasing Halle Berry’s sci-fi movie The Mothership, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Berry and the Mothership team already completed much of the filming on the project, but it was in need of extensive reshoots to get it over the finish line. Netflix opted not to move forward with those reshoots and shelved the film instead. The InSneider newsletter first reported the news.

Originally announced back in 2021, Halle Berry had been set to star in an original sci-fi movie for Netflix titled The Mothership, and in fact, the movie finished filming that same year.
So where is it? When can we expect to see it? Well, a new report has come out this week – first from The Insneider, and now from Variety – indicating that Netflix has made the decision to scrap The Mothership completely. In other words, it’s never going to see the light of day.
Variety explains in their report this afternoon, “The movie finished filming in 2021, but it couldn’t be completed after multiple delays in post-production, Variety has confirmed.”

Netflix is being accused of “Batgirling” Halle Berry’s sci-fi The Mothership after reports that the streamer has scrapped the film.
Halle Berry was due to star in The Mothership, a sci-fi thriller backed by Netflix. The film, directed by Matt Charman, was due to be released in 2023 but didn’t see the light of day – and now it looks as though it never will.
According to Jeff Sneider’s newsletter, Netflix has scrapped the release altogether in favour of a tax write-off.
Does that sound familiar? Warner Bros. Discovery recently came under fire for shelving the already completed Batgirl, while Coyote Vs. Acme is currently trying to find a studio to release the film.
Sneider cited trouble with a lengthy post-production schedule and “significant reshoots” as part of the reason Netflix have decided to abandon ship.
Molly Parker, Omari Hardwick, Sydney Lemmon, John Ortiz, and Paul Guilfoyle were also due to star alongside Berry.

Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry are teaming up for a new film, which will see both legendary stars face off as spies. Warner Bros. confirmed to Popsugar that they have landed the new project, titled "Maude v Maude." Deadline was the first to report news of the exciting movie.
Full details of "Maude v Maude" are under wraps for now, but an insider told Deadline that it will be a global action thriller - a sort of "Bond vs. Bourne." Roseanne Liang will direct from a script by Scott Mosier. Berry and Jolie are also attached as producers on the flick.
The film marks the first time the pair have worked together, though the Oscar winners are no strangers to the spy and action genres. Berry starred alongside Pierce Brosnan in 2002's James Bond film "Die Another Day," appeared in the third John Wick film,...

Deadline reports that Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry are set to join forces for Maude v Maude, an action thriller which sparked a multi-studio bidding war over the weekend.
Warner Bros. came out the victor in the battle of Maude v Maude. Roseanne Liang (Shadow in the Cloud) will direct the movie from a script by Scott Mosier (The Grinch). Not much is known about the project, but an insider described it as a “Bond vs Bourne” type of action thriller. I can get onboard with that. While both Angelina Jolie and Halle Berry have their share of action movies under their belts, this will be the first time that the two actors have worked together.

As the lead in the new Apple TV+ drama Dear Edward, Colin O’Brien plays a boy existing in the aftermath of tragedy. It’s a complex role, especially for one so young, and O’Brien shines. He landed the part after starring in a Stephen King project last year. Now, at only 14, the Dear Edward actor has two big projects coming up, including Wonka.
‘Friday Night Lights’ creator Jason Katims brings the book ‘Dear Edward’ to the screen
Based on the best-selling book by Ann Napolitano, Dear Edward sees O’Brien portraying the title character, a 12-year-old who’s the lone survivor of a plane crash. The series follows Edward as he moves in with his aunt (Taylor Shilling) and begins to process his grief. It also follows the crash victims’ loved ones — Dee Dee (played by Friday Night Lights star Connie Britton), Adriana (Anna Uzele), Linda (Amy Forsyth), and...
