I missed Dexter so much but the ending was awful
Supermanfan-137 August 2024
I missed Dexter so much and was so excited to hear that it was getting revived for this series. Dexter is easily one of my favorite shows of all-time and one of the few shows I can watch all the way through several times over without getting bored. Dexter: New Blood is actually a pretty good show right up until the ending. The ending to the original was pretty bad but this ending is actually worse. I'm not one of those people who thinks a bad ending ruins the whole series for me, as long as the series was good overall then I don't downgrade the entire series because of one bad show. But if there's any exception to that it's this show. The ending really is that bad. I'd still recommend this to any Dexter fans just to see Michael C. Hall back as Dexter. That's worth watching alone and again, the show itself is pretty good. Just be prepared to be disappointed at the ending.

Like the original Dexter, just colder.
allanmac-056614 August 2024
Watched this recently after going through the original 8 seasons and was pleasantly surprised. Expected a disney-fied experience, but was as dark and as funny as the original seasons. Although a lot of people appear to have really dislikes the ending, I actually loved it.

The cast were all excellent, even the younger actors (and let's be honest, 99.7% of kids in shows are either very annoying or very very annoying😁); the twists as the story unfolded were all pretty good if a little predictable; and the setting, in the snow really made it stand out from the Miami based original.

If you liked the originals, this is more of the same, with snow and a proper ending.

Ending was a huge disappointment and cliche.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm convinced that writers often hate their characters. They really did Dexter dirty didn't they?

I hated that Dexter abandoned his son from the previous series. I really do not believe that he would have done that and was hesitant to watch New Blood as I was unhappy with that ending. However, Michael did a fantastic job and I found myself pulled in again.

Unfortunately this again ended in another cliche "killing off the main character" tripe *yawn* with a bit of a U-turn/out of character to get to that conclusion (overdone in nearly every film and series now).

Frustrating and infuriating, and I have intense dislike for whoever agreed to that ending. It wasn't edgy. It wasn't original. It wasn't clever. It wasn't liked.

Unfortunately I cannot give a low rating for the whole series because it was good overall, but that last episode was a 1 for me.

Great show , horrible ending

Warning: Spoilers
It was great seeing Dexter return. Michael C. Hall is always excellent. Clancy Brown as the villain was the perfect choice. I loved the snow setting, and Jennifer Carpenter returning as Dexter's conscience was great. It was a nice touch in order to bring her back in some capacity other than flashbacks. Overall the show is fantastic and worthy of the original series. My only issue is the last episode. I lives the final episode of the original series and unlike most people, I thought it was a fitting finale. NewBlood's finale left me wondering why they brought the show back at all if only to kill Dexter. And at the hands of his own son. I wanted more seasons of New Blood and was hoping to see a Dexter /Batista showdown reunion. I gave 10 stars because despite the finale, the show is fantastic and definitely still a repeat watch for me.

Why?
Why? Why? Was this show ended please bring back Dexter that new blood was awesome please Dexter needs more new blood! I don't like many shows but horror and blood and guts and all of it was awesome! Please keep Dexter coming back like the many many other horror characters in history of horror genre ! In new blood he was training the son and I think even bringing him out as a show would be great I never had showtime and I only just was put on I had tried to watch it years ago but was hooked on hbo shows ! I would love to see Dexter again or more the way the new blood ended it is possible it's just the actors needs to want it.

Ending ruined it
S-t-a-t-i-x12 January 2022
Dexter: New Blood quickly felt like Dexter again. I was enjoying it more and more until the last 10-15 minutes of the final episode. I can't believe they did it again. They freaking did it again... Once more they ruined it with the ending.

It's a damn shame, because this had so much potential.

Didn't evoke the nostalgia I was hoping for
Vicmerlin12 July 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Dexter: New Blood feels like an entirely new show. It's not bad, it's just too different. I hated Harrison in this - he looks and "feels" nothing like the cheerful little blonde Harrison we watched before. My mind kept rejecting this portrayal. They barely talked about Hannah; frankly I would have loved to hear about Hannah and see some pictures in Argentina. Deb, a major kickass character, was reduced to just a few annoying hallucinations, and she didn't feel like the old Deb at all. It didn't help that the actress looked different (yes obviously the actress got older but it doesn't make sense why the hallucinations would get older. Realistically, Dexter's image of her would stay the same.) I missed all the old characters, including Miami. They brought back Batista just so he can be borderline offensive and creepy (he calls the Iron Lake Chief of Police "bossy" and asks her if her boyfriend can handle her... WTF! I mean, way to ruin Batista for me). Even Dexter isn't Dexter anymore. He is now Jim. At some point your heart will wonder if you accidentally switched to the wrong show.

On the positive side, as a different show, it's great. Interesting characters, villains, story arcs. It's really not a bad watch if you take it as a totally different show and aren't secretly wanting a reunion.

Another Terrible Ending!
Rob133130 September 2022
The original Dexter was absolutely, without a doubt, one of the best shows ever created! It's a thrilling, one of a kind TV show that will keep you at the edge of your seat throughout the entire series. Michael C. Hall is perfect as Dexter and the rest of the supporting cast is just as fantastic! Yes, the ending was terrible but like Game of Thrones, Lost (or any other show with a bad final episode), a few bad episodes at the end doesn't spoil what an overall great show it was and that's what Dexter is...a GREAT show! The ending was so bad they brought back Dexter: New Blood to give it a better ending. Problem is the ending to this was even worse. I've loved having Dexter back on my tv and the show was really good overall, they just blew the ending for a second time. It's still definitely worth watching!

Fantastic ending to Dexter
jimgaffke1088 August 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Contrary to popular opinion I think this was the best ending to any series I have ever watched.

It brought closure to so many things. Dexter went out the way he ultimately wanted to. He saved Harrison. He knew he couldn't do it on his own. The letter he wrote to Hanna was very touching and very real.

This short series was perfect and did exactly what it was intended to do....put closure to the man, Dexter.

I wouldn't change a thing, the writers did indeed get it right.

Had Dexter survived and moved on I would have been greatly disappointed.

In the end, he had most everyone he loved killed. He knew it, it was his demon that he could not escape from. He could not escape from himself.

Great series.

The original series was exceptional as well. The only thing I would have changed was the very last scene.....him in Oregon. Even though, it really showed who and what he truly was all about....himself.

One day I hope another series as Dexter comes along.

Well done Dexter!!!

World's Greatest Dad
timdasilva13 August 2024
A heartwarming father-son story, Dexter: New Blood provides an outstanding conclusion to the original series.

Just south of Bear Pond, former murderous vigilante Dexter Morgan (aka Jim Lindsay) is living his best life as a friendly store clerk in a small town near Seneca named Iron Lake, NY. But, Iron Lake isn't so small when the Dark Passenger and Dexter's son Harrison make a pitstop in town for the holidays.

Despite being born in his mother's blood and killing his father Harry thanks to "The Code" Harry taught him, Dexter deserves the chance to be loved by his own son and seek redemption. After all, all sons need their father.

The transition from Jim Lindsay into World's Greatest Dad Dexter Morgan is brilliantly illustrated by Sister Deb Deb replacing Harry as the voice in Dexter's head. Providing a look inside the world and mind of the world's greatest psychopath, Dexter & Son: The Redemption of Dexter Morgan is truly a thrilling and fascinating journey.

Will Dexter become crazier than ever with the Dark Passenger back at the wheel or will he learn from the sins of his father? The viewer is taken on an odyssey to answer this question as each episode is more captivating than the last. And, the destination is one of the greatest series finales in television history. Seriously, it's a bloody perfect ending.

Much like another famous vigilante, Dexter will either die a villain or live long enough to see himself become the hero. 9/10.

This isn't about the rating, didn't know what to give it
Sombremoviewizard29 July 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This review is more about the ending and what it has done for the fans.

I don't know if this will help but here goes:

To me, Dexter 'The Bay Harbour Butcher' Morgan, is still alive!...

Watch the scene, Harrison shoots Dexter, directed by Dexter to shoot in the torso

The only way you will make me believe that this very talented escape artist was dead, is if he was (by anyone) shot in the head

Dexter is smart, always has a plan B, heck maybe even a C & D

What he learned is that Harrison didn't want to go with someone who would bend the rules (The Code) whenever things went bad, Dexter killed Logan, he could've just knocked him out then take the keys, but we know Dexter sometimes has to make things up as he goes along, so him killing Logan was messy, an innocent was killed

But back to the scene after Harrison shoots Dexter he just stands there, doesn't go near him, so what if it was Dexter took a risky chance in faking his death again, releasing his son from a life on the run

So to all the fans who were disappointed, here's a review from a fellow fan, Dexter could still be alive to escape Iron Lake

I mean, we know how he works...

But if this theory is correct, please no season 10 Maybe a movie but no season 10 Leave Dexter Morgan in peace.

I honestly wish i wouldn't have watched it
zeizei_334 August 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't hate it, the first 9 episodes were good but the ending made me so mad. I imagined that Harrison and Dexter would've moved to other city and do what they do even though same time i had small feeling in my head that Dexter would either die or get caught.

I read the other reviews and saw that someone said that the ending felt rushed and i agree. It felt like he just died quickly and i was like "wtf? He just died like that". I felt same way when Rita died, it felt so unexpected and it made me be like "This must be his dream or something" but no :D so yea, i wish that i wouldn't have watched it.

I'm also kinda disappointed that we didn't get to see Angel and Dexter seeing each others after all of those years, i wanted to see Angel's reaction.

But after all, it wasn't bad but the ending disappointed me. I guess the title gives the impression that i didn't like it.

Was there any point?
antide-4237611 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It is obvious that this series was made because they should have killed off Dexter in the last one. To be blunt this wasn't great and the ending was unbelievably stupid.

We were made to believe that Harrison was so excited to find that Dexter was a killer and even joined in the killing of Kurt. 'I am just like you' he cried only in the next episode to say he was nothing like him. So Dexter didn't want to screw up his sons life and asked him to kill him. WHAT?? As if that wouldn't haunt him for the rest of his life!! Dexter had built up sympathy for his character over the years as he always killed bad people. So what does he do? Kill nice cop Logan so any sympathy we had went away in a second. Dexter would NEVER have done this, never.

It wasn't all bad. Clancy Brown was very good as bad guy Kurt and I liked Julia Jones as Angela. But really 'Dexter:New Blood' was a mess which is a pity.

Michael C. Hall deserves more appreciation
gedikreverdi15 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Michael C. Hall is such a good actor. We need to appreciate him more. Nothing much happened but there's an atmosphere of foreboding and uneasiness and that reminds me very much of good old times when I got to watch Dexter without knowing I was watching one of the best shows in my life.

The last episode - why, why, why????
vinaydivakar10 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If you liked the original show, you'd like this one too. I enjoyed all the episodes except for the last one. I was very disappointed to see Dexter got killed by his son Harrison. I'd hate to watch Harrison take over the role. However, for the 9 episodes and for old times sake, I'd give it a decent rating.

Its Dexter, but with snow.
johnsen-kasper25 November 2021
I've read a bunch of the negative review, and let me start by saying: I'm not sure what more they want?

This is Dexter as it used to be. Its quirky, dark and not very realistic. But you could apply that to the entire series, and if you do - Dexter isn't for you. But if you loved Dexter, you're going to love this just as much, is is everything we ever wanted - cant wait to see more!

Some of you are missing the point
daniel_pank_nielsen21 November 2021
I really enjoyed the first two episodes. I liked how Dexter's missing inner dialogue, that is very essential to the character, provides the necessary insights into how he has managed to suppress his dark passenger for so many years. Dexter was always good at creating a fake persona that to other people appeared like a "regular" person, so it makes perfect sense that he has managed to blend in so easily. I have read several reviews saying that they hate Debra being Dexter's new guide and that every scene with her is uncomfortable, to me that's kinda the point. She symbolizes everything bad that has happened because of Dexter's darkness. "Harry" as a guide functioned as a reminder of the rules he was taught, he got Dexter to only kill bad people, but that's not the role "Debra" is intended to fill. You are supposed to find her presence unbearable because that's how Dexter feels too.

Overall I think it will be a great season, the writing is good and the actors, especially Michael C. Hall, are excellent.

Final episode reset needed!
tuanskie19 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I had never watched Dexter until I binged through this particular series. I gave the series an overall rating of 8 because it hooked me into going backwards in watching Dexter from the very beginning. All I can say is that the final episode of this limited run series is disappointing to say the least and deserves a 1/10. I echo what others have already stated - what's the point? Please ShowTime, do a reshoot of the episode and magically wipe out the hideous storyline and treatment Dexter received. A large number of us will be glad to pretend "it" never happened! Heck, it'll be awesome if the son never happened!

Overall good, but again a terrible final...
Lukasmj5 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"Dexter: New Blood" was a sequel that I was really looking forward to.

"Finally we get the ending worthy of the series," I thought.

I'll come back to that later in this review.

As I learned in school, I would first like to mention the aspects that I liked about the sequel.

As in "Dexter", Michael C. Hall (Dexter Morgan) delivers a very good performance, which was to be expected.

But actors like Jack Alcott (Harrison Morgan), Clancy Brown (Kurt Caldwell), or Johnny Sequoyah (Audrey) also play their roles extremely well.

I also think the setting is well chosen.

Seeing Dexter in a whole new environment was refreshing after seeing him only in Miami for 8 seasons.

I also think the story and characters are well written and well thought out.

Now we come to the negative part of my review.

One point of criticism I have is that the series is a bit unrealistic here and there.

By that I mean specifically that Angela involves Dexter too much in her work.

Sure, she loves him and probably doesn't think anything about it, but the rest of the time she seems to me like a woman who takes her job very seriously.

I now come to my final and biggest criticism of the series. The end.

The ending was in my opinion, just awful and very disappointing.

Sure, the fans are finally getting an end here, but just not an edning that does Dexter justice.

Killing Dexter that way in the end was generally a stupid decision, but the way he died is even sillier when you consider that for the entirety of the previous 9 episodes, Dexter has been trying to be a good father to Harrison.

In the end, however, Dexter lets himself be shot by his own son, who is already traumatized by the murder of his mother, is mentally extremely stressed and has even developed a "dark passenger" (!) like his father.

How does that make sense?

Now the boy has lost both his parents and even killed his father himself. So if you ask me, it's very counterproductive to the trauma he already has and inevitably leads to Harrison going down the same path as Dexter, especially since Dexter has already shown him how to silence his "dark passenger".

I will now describe the ending in bullet points that I would have wished for and which, in my opinion, would have been much better.

  • Dexter is revealed to be the "Bay Harbor Butcher".

  • Dexter struggles with this, but accepts that accepting his punishment is the right way to go

  • Dexter speaks with Harrison for the last time, telling him that the path he has taken is not the right one to deal with his problems and asking Harrison to seek help and not follow in his footsteps.

  • Dexter is taken to Miami to atone for his actions, where he meets Batista one last time and also apologizes to him sincerely

  • Dexter is now in court where he is confronted with his actions and he tells his life story in court and explains his psychological problems, from which his motive emerges

  • Dexter is sentenced to death

  • The final scene is Dexter sitting in the electronic chair, saying his last words and then being executed.

They hyped it up, and started well....but ending was rushed
jakobvardalskroppa6 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
They hyped up all the fans when they announsed that the original show writer was returning, and the first 9 episodes was great, it was something new and different from the original show, witch was exiting. But Dexter would never screw up that bad. And he would NEVER kill an innocent cop. Wtf. And in episode 9 Harrison finally bonded with his father and it seemed to work out pretty well untill he suddenlty snapped, and his father is his worst enemy again. And i think Dexter would get away with the bay harbour case by helping Angela solve the missing girl case. And why hype us up with Angel returning to meet Dexter just to completely scrap it? The ending felt rushed.

Should not have been made
thiwankar19 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Very heartbreaking ending, I was expecting more from the final. I liked the way things they left after season 8. This feels like a meaningless story to tell. I personally didn't need to know he get killed, I mean by his son. How messed up is that? We see how much Dexter loves Harrison in the original show, and it ends up like this. This should have been left alone. All the 7 stars for Michael C hall. He was excellent as always. I still cant believe it though, my favorite character is dead only by the hands of my least favorite character. Now I cant even re-watch the original show knowing this horrible ending. Writers can go f themselves.

You guys PROMISED a satisfying ending for the fans because the ending of the original series SUCKED when you killed of DEBRAH and when Dexter left Hannah with his son. Why do you think THIS is an OK ending??? Don't you guys understand that the whole series is going to get a bad rating. Just look what rating last episode got and compare it with other episodes! You guys had a chance to give all fans justice and you BLEW it! You better make another season and show that Dexter didn't die!

Nice build up, horrible ending
seattlebruin9 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The first 9 episodes were solid. I genuinely anticipated the ending Clyde Phillips promised. It was supposed to "blow up the internet" and was the "best thing I ever wrote"

I have no problem with what happened in the end. It was more about how they did it. First and foremost, Dexter never panics. Never. He told Harrison he had gotten out of worse situations and he had many times and now based on almost zero evidence they'd never be able to do anything with Dexter panicked and killed Logan. Moreover, the expert in anatomy and killing couldn't manage to just have him pass out.

I knew he was gonna die or at least strongly suspected it, but as I said it was about the how. After he panics he then says he understands love for the first time and he shows it by allowing his son to murder him.

It was rushed and poorly executed. Clyde Phillips hype was absurd. They would have spent an entire episode on the interrogation. The few minutes they did was riveting. Dexter would have found a way out and then they could have killed him however they wanted after he was released. I was so irritated by this total departure in the essence of the character in the killing of Logan that I just rolled my eyes at the ending.

It wasn't a bad season. I thought episode 9 was well done. It set the stage for the big disappointment once again not because he died, but the way they did it. In my mind he is still a lumberjack roaming the Pacific Northwest.

Ketamine ... are you serious???
skiorcho10 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Hey, the writers, have you even watched what you are writing - Dexter used M99, not Ketamine. Absolute disaster is this final episode. There was no any proofs that Dexter is the butcher ... and what ... killing your own father will heal you? Dexter is way more smarter than that. And he would never kill the coach he would just put him to sleep and take the key. A disaster ...

Warning: Spoilers
I loved Dexter and was so excited for this reboot. I'm really hoping that the last episode was just a dream. It doesn't make any sense, why would they ruin it like this? Dexter would never have ended it this way. Where's the code & not to mention Debra as his conscience? I'm looking forward to another season with a live Dexter. Can't help myself. It must be love.
