Academy Award winner Jamie Lee Curtis, who just snagged an Emmy nomination for her critically-acclaimed turn on The Bear, is poised to receive another accolade. The American Film Institute announced today that it will present a doctorate of fine arts degree honoris causa to Curtis in honor of “contributions of distinction to the art of the moving image.”

Curtis will receive the shine and the diploma during the AFI Conservatory’s commencement ceremony celebrating the class of 2024 at Hollywood’s Tcl Chinese Theatre on Aug. 10.

British comedian Sadler has previously written for The News Quiz, Hypothetical, and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, but this is her first big TV project. “Everything we joke about in the show is from a place of lived experience,” she told Funny Women. “I wish I could say this is a heart-warming show about overcoming trauma, but that would be a lie. Highlighting Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for February 2022 is Reacher, the saga of one very large boy. Reacher premieres on Feb. 4 and is based on the Jack Reacher book series by Lee Child. The titular hero (played by Alan Ritchson) is a former major in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps who now travels the country looking for trouble to get into. His hands are very large.

Betty White, the Emmy-winning TV star who had a remarkable later-career resurgence in films, TV commercials and the hit series “The Golden Girls” and “Hot in Cleveland,” has died. She was 99.

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a death investigation on the 500 block of N. Carmelina Ave. in Los Angeles at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning. White would have celebrated her 100th birthday on Jan. 17. White is believed to have died Thursday night at her Brentwood home.

White’s agent and close friend Jeff Witjas confirmed her death to Variety. “Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever,” Witjas said in a statement. “I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again.

Saul Turteltaub, the television writer and producer known for “Sanford and Son,” “What’s Happening!!,” “That Girl” and “The Carol Burnett Show,” has died at the age of 87.

His son, “Cool Runnings” and “While You Were Sleeping” director Jon Turteltaub, confirmed his father’s death to The Hollywood Reporter.

“To say this was a talented, funny, loving and beloved man is truly an understatement,” he said in the statement.

Kristin Chenoweth is set to star in a new comedy in development at Disney+ titled “The Biggest Star in Appleton,” a person close to production told TheWrap.

From screenwriter and playwright Paul Rudnick and producer Dan Jinks, “The Biggest Star In Appleton” stars Chenoweth as Carol Dannhauser, a Wisconsin mom, wife and waitress who, while devoted to her family, finds her deepest satisfaction in small town stardom at the local community theater. Her status is threatened when Tara Hubley, a struggling New York chorus girl, moves back home with dreams of her own.

Rudnick, Jinks and Chenoweth all executive produce, with 20th Century Fox TV attached as the studio. Chenoweth and Jinks previously worked together on “Pushing Daisies,” which Jinks produced and for which Chenoweth won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Olive Snook.

Jamie Lee Curtis is joining Daniel Craig, Chris Evans and Lakeith Stanfield in director Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Curtis just starred in director David Gordon Green’s record-breaking “Halloween” sequel, which has grossed $87.2 million domestically since its opening last weekend.

“Knives Out” is described as a modern-day murder mystery in the classic whodunit style infused with Johnson’s original voice that informed films from “Brick” to “Looper.”

Ram Bergman will produce “Knives Out” under Johnson and Bergman’s newly-formed production shingle.

Andy Fickman will direct the romantic comedy “Tension Ring,” the debut feature of the newly formed Robbins Lane Entertainment, Variety has learned exclusively.

“Tension Ring” marks the launch of Robbins Lane Entertainment, from Seth B. Fass and Scott Prisand. The shingle is named after the pair’s elementary school in Syosset, Long Island.

Fickman will direct from a script he wrote with Marnie Alexenburg and Kristen Gura Fickman. Inspired by a true love story, “Tension Ring” follows a New York stock broker who enlists the help of his girlfriend’s eccentric father to pull off the engagement of a lifetime — but quickly realizes the alliance could ruin everything.

The project is set to film in New York in early 2019. Fass and Prisand will produce with Fickman’s Oops Doughnuts, with Betsy Sullenger also producing. The film will be executive produced by Robert Leary of Vineyard Point Productions.

Awards show fever has taken over the nation, and it looks like there’s going to be some fierce competition at the 2016 iHeartRadio Awards.

Gal pals Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez were both nominated for the Female Artist of the Year trophy, joined also by Carrie Underwood, Meghan Trainor and Adele.

Meanwhile, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Sam Smith and Luke Bryan will battle it out for the Male Artist of the Year title when the 2016 iHeartRadio Awards go live on April 3rd.

The 2016 Golden Globe Awards were held last night; it was a long one but thanks to host Ricky Gervais, it was anything but boring. The Revenant took home Best Picture – Drama, Best Director for Alejandro G. Iñárritu, and Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio. Some might hope that Leos’ Oscar chances are a lock now, but let’s remember that for some strange reason he didn’t win for Wolf of Wall Street. The Academy has already closed voting for Oscar nominations, so this award show has no claim to much.

The Martian won Best Picture – Comedy and Best Actor in a Comedy for Matt Damon, while the Best Actress honors went to Brie Larson for Room and Jennifer Lawrence for Joy. Might it just be Leonardo diCaprio's year, finally, at the Academy Awards? He and his latest movie, The Revenant, took a big step towards the Oscar stage by taking home the big prizes at the Golden Globe awards overnight. DiCaprio took home the best actor gong (for a drama), whilst The Revenant seized Best Motion Picture, Drama, beating out the early Oscar favourite, Spotlight.

Alejandro G Inarritu won Best Director for The Revenant, too.

Elsewhere? The Martian won big too, with Matt Damon earning the best actor prize in a musical or comedy, with the film itself winning Best Motion Picture (musical, or comedy). Sylvester Stallone nabbed Best Supporting Actor for his work in Creed, with Kate Winslet winning Best Supporting Actress for Steve Jobs.

Years after Ricky Gervais roasted Mel Gibson at an earlier Globes show the pair hugged on stage when the Australian introduced footage from Mad Max: Fury Road.

Prior to introducing Gibson, Gervais, tongue firmly in his cheek, referred to previous bad blood between the pair. “I’m sure it’s embarrassing for both of us and I blame NBC for this terrible situation.”

After the embrace Gibson turned to the comedian and said: “I love seeing Ricky once every three years because it reminds me to get a colonoscopy.”

A subsequent exchange was bleeped out.

The Martian was named best musical or comedy. Ridley Scott accepted the award and said “Screw you” as music began to play while he thanked a long list of collaborators.

Scott rounded off by saying: “Finally I know my [late] brother Tony would have been here tonight for sure and I know many of you knew him and loved him. I love you...

And so it goes, Alejandro González Iñárritu's "The Revenant" derails Tom McCarthy's "Spotlight" from dominating award season by winning the most trophies at the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards! Besides taking home the Best Picture Drama trophy, Leonardo DiCaprio also won the Best Actor Drama trophy while Iñárritu received the Best Director award.

The Golden Globes, given by the Hollywood Foreign Press, bestowed "The Martian" as the Best Picture Comedy of the year because it's really funny! According to host Ricky Gervais, "The Martian" was a lot funnier than "Pixels." True that! Matt Damon also won Best Actor Comedy for "The Martian."

Jennifer Lawrence took home the Best Actress Comedy trophy for "Joy" beating her bestie Amy Schumer for "Trainwreck." Brie Larson won the Best Actress Drama award for "Room."

In the supporting acting categories, Kate Winslet won actress for "Steve Jobs" while Sylvester Stallone received the actor trophy.

The 2016 awards season is officially in high gear, with Sunday's 73rd Golden Globe Awards.

Controversial Ricky Gervais returns to host, so expect a rundown of his (hopefully) humorous celebrity barbs on Monday morning. And some of your favorite movies and shows will need to make space on their awards mantles tonight.

Todd Haynes’ Carol headed into the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday evening with the highest number of nominations - five - and left empty-handed. Similarly The Big Short, nominated for four, failed to translate a single nod into a trophy at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual shindig.

Away from the business of winning awards, arguably the most anticipated part of the evening was the inevitable encounter between show host Ricky Gervais and Mel Gibson, making his return to the limelight after years in the wilderness following a series of anti-Semitic and misogynistic remarks and erratic behaviour.

Giving the fans the final word, the 2016 People's Choice Awards took over the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles last night (January 6) with host Jane Lynch at the helm.

Throughout the course of the evening, Vin Diesel sang “See You Again” in honor of Paul Walker while Jason DeRulo and Jordan Smith both gave stunning live performances.

And among the throng of stars in attendance were big names like Kate Hudson, Lea Michele, John Stamos, Chris Hemsworth, Jack Black, Lucy Hale, Julianne Hough, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson.

Why does it never fail to water our eyes when Vin Diesel honors Paul Walker? He did it again last night at the People's Choice Awards, when giving a lengthy acceptance speech for "Furious 7," which won two awards. Vin name dropped the late actor, whom he has called his brother, and at the end of the speech he sang a verse from the film's end song, "See You Again."
