"Dixie Madcaps" is the most racist silent short I have ever seen...and I cannot imagine a film worse. It makes "Birth of a Nation" seem like a fine family film by comparison!!
It begins with a bunch of black folks supposedly having a watermelon eating contest. Instead, they mostly are dancing about like animals. One of them goes to the watermelon patch to get a melon and two GIANT melons pop open in front of him and out come two ghosts. He turns white and runs away--chased by the ghosts. The other blacks see it and become hysterical. Later, it's revealed that it's two obnoxious little $^@!s who take off their costumes and dance like morons at the thought that they made the black people scared. These are the 'Dixie Madcaps'--two nasty little girls who should have been lynched. There's more to the film than this, but I just turned it off, as my quota for unfunny racist humor was surely surpassed already! Ugh. Utter garbage.
