There’s something really cool about a filmmaker dropping their new work as a surprise, out of the blue like something a musician might do with a new album. Right in the middle of last week, I got to see the new Michael Moore movie, which had literally just been completed the morning before. A one man show as much as a documentary, Michael Moore in TrumpLand is a real interesting bit of cinema. You might think it would be a Fahrenheit 9/11 style takedown of Donald Trump, but it’s not really that. If anything, it’s closer to a case being made for Hillary Clinton as the next President of the United States. Coming from Moore, who has never been a supporter, it takes an unusual path too. This is something well worth seeing, especially if you like Moore. Even if you don’t, you should give this a chance.

Comedian Kevin Meaney has died. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he was found unresponsive in his home on Friday.
Working the stand-up circuit for 36 years, Meaney began his career in Boston and San Francisco in the 1980s. Taking the stage in loud blazers and bow ties, he made a signature bit from a chirpy, chiding impression of his mother, which punctuated personal anecdotes about tight pants and his childhood resemblance to Wayne Newton. Interruption was a big component of Meaney’s routine—as seen in this Tonight Show clip, where the personal material is abruptly and unexpectedly derailed by a vocalist-by-vocalist lip-sync of “We Are The World.” Music was another major part of Meaney’s performances: Before he went on to appear in the stage version of Hairspray, he’d cap his sets with an a cappella showstopper expressing his indifference to bombing onstage.

Michelle Obama‘s barnstorming and emotional speech against Gop nominee Donald Trump on Thursday came straight from the heart, a White House source tells People exclusively.
“This is a speech that the First Lady wanted to personally deliver for a long time,” the source reveals. “It came directly from the First Lady.”
Taking the stage at a Manchester, New Hampshire, rally for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, Obama forcefully slammed Trump in the wake of mounting allegations of sexual assault against the businessman.
“I can’t believe that I’m saying that a candidate for President of the United States has bragged about sexually assaulting women…...

On any other day, on any other block, it might be absurd to hear this random complain from a passerby: “I cannot meditate the sun away.” But in front of the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, on the warm opening day of David Lynch’s Festival of Disruption, it somehow fit.
It wasn’t immediately clear what to expect from this two-day event, which raised funds for The David Lynch Foundation; the nonprofit organization aims to bring transcendental meditation to those struggling with Ptsd and other ailments.”The Individual is Cosmic” said prominent signs outside as well as the event program. “Unity in the Midst of Diversity” was another.
What was known going into last weekend was Lynch curated an eclectic collection of creators for talks, exhibits, screenings, and performances. Attendees could experience demos by virtual reality company Within, or explore artwork by Lynch and others.

“Newtown” explores the aftermath of the tragic 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and touches on the salient issue of gun access in the U.S. The documentary had a special opening-night screening on Friday at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in New York, where Governor Andrew M. Cuomo attended and delivered remarks about the film and gun-control issues.
The documentary is directed by Kim A. Snyder and produced by the governor’s sister, Maria Cuomo Cole. Taking the stage, Governor Cuomo congratulated his sister and the “Newtown” team for their hard work, then delved into the changes that need to be made in this country regarding gun violence.
“Just a couple of words, because this film is so powerful and the film is going to say better than any message I could convey to you,” he said. “The gun issue is still one that truly confounds me and the insanity of it,...

Before anyone gets triggered, let me forewarn you that King Cobra is a true story centered around gay porn. That story seems absolutely insane as it features two porn moguls going to war over one man: Brent Corrigan. Here's the official description:
Based on a stranger-than-fiction true story, King Cobra is a deliciously dark, twisted plunge into the behind-the-scenes world of the pornography industry. It’s 2006, YouTube is in its infancy, and internet porn is still behind a paywall. Taking the stage name Brent Corrigan, a fresh-faced, wannabe adult video performer (Garrett Clayton) is molded into a star by Stephen (Christian Slater), a closeted gay porn mogul who runs the skin flick empire Cobra Video from his seemingly ordinary suburban home. But as Brent’s rise and demands for more money put him at odds with his boss, he also attracts the attention of a rival producer (James Franco) and...

While he’s currently shooting David Simon’s new HBO series The Deuce, which looks at the porn industry in the 1970s and ’80s in New York City, James Franco has another production which explores a more modern look at the industry. King Cobra, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year, follows Franco and Christian Slater as rival gay porn producers who fight over a burgeoning star. Ahead of a release next month, IFC Midnight has now released the first trailer.

Updated: Patton Oswalt’s “Talking For Clapping” won the Best Writing for a Variety Special Sunday night at the 2016 Emmy Awards. Taking the stage to receive his first Emmy, the comedian confessed that he was unprepared as he “didn’t think he was going to win.”
During his brief time on stage, he took a moment to dedicate the trophy to two very special people, one of them his late wife Michelle McNamara, who unexpectedly passed away in April of this year.
“I want to share this with two people. My daughter Alice who is waiting at home. And the other one is waiting somewhere else, I hope,” he beautifully stated.

This past weekend was a big one for award winning director Ryan Coogler (Creed), since it was the first time the cast of his next project had assembled for the cameras. Taking the stage at the legendary San Diego Comic-Con during the Marvel Studios presentation, Coogler made the first introductions of the team of performers that will be delivering Black Panther to cinema screens in 2018.
There was rapturous reception for Black Panther himself, Chadwick Boseman, as well as his supporting cast members – Michael B. Jordan, Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o – which was followed by ample opportunity for Coogler to discuss the film with the press. In doing so, he confirmed that the greatest influence on his adaptation is the work of current Black Panther comic book writer, Ta-Nehisi Coates – whose stories are pencilled by Brian Stelfreeze, and inked by Laura Martin.
