Millar's original core idea remains (it's one of my favorite books of his) but execution is all over the place.
Some performances are very weak, but it's understandable given how weird dialog and pacing are. Some dialog feels very unnatural and forced. Like the writer is trying to make a point as fast as possible instead of making characters get to the point by talking to each other like actual human beings. It feels rushed, desperate to get to a point not minding HOW it gets there.
Even though is poorly written, premise is captivating enough to get you attention, but that's all Millar, not the show-runners. Some characters are very likable (Tuka, Wagner), but other are very cartoon-y (pretty much every antagonist)
Cinematography is great.

Sorry but this series is pretty poor in every way.
Even knowing that it is a fictional series, the events are not at all credible.
I found myself thinking if it were really possible this would be how the story unfold?
After half a dozen episodes I felt that the forward button is my best friend, and you don't miss much after all.
Maybe the kids enjoy this kind of series but for adults I think this is a comedy!
I saw Messiah and it was so much better than this one.
Well in my opinion this is a kind of series that in one year you will not remember that you saw it.
Well Netflix has these things!

I haven't read the comics the series is based on so I can't say anything about the changes and whether they are good or not.
The pacing is a bit slow, entire thing could easily be trimmed by an ep if not two. When things start to happen certain suspension of disbelief is required, mostly about how and why this is contained to this small Mexican town, geography seems a bit of of whack and too many relationships are forced and don't make much sense.
The growth of main characters, his doubts and coming to grips with what's happening is done well enough. If some characters are cliches and act in cliche ways for such a story is forgivable.
It's good entertainment that doesn't delve too deeply into matters of faith and so it doesn't get bogged down there nor does it raise any controversial issues.

I'm glad I ignored the low ratings. Probably people who didn't get past the first few episodes or have issues with the way religion is portrayed. But the acting was top notch and the story was engaging. The climactic scene gave me full-body goosebumps. Something I rarely remember experiencing from a show. And the twist had me reevaluating everything that came before. The last few minutes were weird, but that didn't diminish the impact of the story for me.
I am hoping there is a second season On the way to tie in some of the less fleshed out characters and concepts introduced. I'd definitely watch it!

I didn't choose this but was willing to give it a shot. The director tries to get a little too artsy and didn't do proper research into what he's trying to portray. One example is the pastor of the evangelical church is shown with a JW book while firing up the crowd. If you can get past poor directing choices and a convoluted storyline then it's good for some passive entertainment I guess. And the first two episodes are difficult to get through but you have to get to them to get to the somewhat entertaining parts. And we're supposed to be ok with a twelve year old making out with a girl in her room... Just overall weird.
I'm not sure why the review score is so low but this tv series was amazing. I went in with zero expectations and came out wanting a season 2. I have never written a review but this definitely deserves one in hopes more people discover this gem on Netflix.
I gave it a 9/10 only because I wished it was a bit longer( which is a good thing). The ending sets up for a possible second season and the story definitely would be amazing as it was in season one. The characters are likeable and don't make any stupid decisions. There is no modern day politics or agendas just a great story with a great cast.

I usually have a rule of 4 episodes to give something a go, this is 6 so thought I'd go the whole hog.
It took over a week to watch the 6 episodes, not because they are over lengthly or I had personal commitments.
The each episode seemed to give a direction of the plot an state where it was going, that was fine for the first 3, which built a coming of age supernatutal belief. After that it seemed like the writers decided ah well let's throw another idea in with no development, then drop within 5 minutes of viewing.
This review will be short but I will do another that calls out all the aspects which will be spoilers that meant, a really good comic could have been made great.

The movie is good, but all overall it's fantasy / it's a kids play movie lol. Jodie uses his own "miracles" for his own benefits and we know that Jesus would not do such a thing. He used profanity language which no true follower of God uses. He does not even read the Bible. Female followers start to follow him and "kiss" him since he has the power. It's amazing to see how if a man has power, then females follow him... lol. Overall, it's a kid movie which does not relate to anything in the Bible. Nice fictional movie tho. I'd recommend for people who are non-believers, but not for true believers.

The Chosen One (el elegido) The Mexican series based on the American comic by Mark Millar consists of a total of 6 episodes. It follows the story of a 12-year-old child who discovers they possess powers akin to Jesus Christ. What will happen in their life?
In summary, this series is a brilliantly crafted adaptation from a comic, featuring a storyline with intricately developed characters much like a Mexican version of Stranger Things. Every actor delivers an impressive performance, and the narrative unfolds in a unique and captivating way, filled with excitement and complexity that persists even in its conclusion. Highly recommended not to be missed, especially for fans of the writer Mark Millar.

Apparently the bigots are out for blood and give this show bad reviews for a few kissing scenes between two 13-year olds. Honestly some people
Need to chill out! This was an excellent series, stellar acting and such a fascinating plot! Give it a chance and you'll like it or even love it! I didn't have many expectations when I started watching and now I'm so upset it's already over. I do hope the show gets renewed as the finale leaves a lot of room for a new storyline. Do yourself a favor, ignore all the nasty reviews and watch this series as you won't be disappointed, even gave me the chills.!

A series that from the first second keeps you attentive And it manages to cause in you the anxiety of wanting to know what is happening, it manages to maintain a constant rhythm and a dialogue that does not bore you at all. From the first chapter you can see the wonderful and paranormal world that awaits you, a world without being created by cgi Making us empathize with the people of the town and satisfy the curiosity of what would happen if something like this happened in real life and the social impact that this would have on the people, in this case the people of the small town. Without a doubt a series that is worth watching!!

I watched "The Chosen One" in one sitting, which speaks volumes about how much it pulled me in. The show was recommended to me because of my fondness for Netflix's "Messiah," directed by James McTeigue and written by Michael Petroni. Although "The Chosen One" doesn't have the budget of "Messiah," which I absolutely loved, it tells the story exceptionally well through great writing, setting, and acting.
Although the pacing is slow in the initial episodes, this is a minor flaw in an otherwise compelling series.
Set in a small Mexican town, the story revolves around a young teenager who discovers he possesses powers reminiscent of Jesus Christ. While he's flattered by his sudden acclaim as the "Second Coming," he also grapples with typical teenage experiences.
The show is beautifully shot, and the 4:3 aspect ratio is a nostalgic nod to its '90s setting, enhancing the viewing experience. Kudos to child actor Bobby Luhnow, who delivers a spellbinding performance, adding layers of complexity to his character. The script is thoughtfully written and leaves room for a sequel-something I'm eagerly awaiting.
Overall, "The Chosen One" deserves a higher rating and a second season.

I watched it once and gave it 7 stars. I watched it a second time and I feel I have to give it a 9. I don't give it a 10 because it's not a great production and the editing and acting could have been better.
The Chosen One is an amazing, original story. Hundreds of movies and tv shows have been made about this topic, but this one is completely out of the ordinary. It's definitely a memorable story. The story starts with very little tension, and that increases steadily until the last few minutes of the last episode!
The use of music is very clever, as it reflects the feeling of the characters at the time and not the reality behind what's really happening, so nothing is too obvious; not to Jodie and definitely not to the audience. So you don't need to blame yourself if you couldn't connect the dots, although you had all the clues! This makes this series extra memorable.
The kids' performance is brilliant, to the point that they made me cry laugh and cry with them. Juanito Anguamea (Tuka) and Alberto Pérez-Jácome (Wagner), in special, were amazing. The adults, on the other hand, felt a little flat. I think that of Dianna Agron, in particular, because she was playing a key character (Jodie's mom Sarah), which really needed to be on point. I would also blame her for Bobby Luhnow (Jodie)'s poor performance in some scenes playing opposite to her.
This series deeply touched me and the story will be in my memory forever. I learned that this is only 1 part of a 3 part story originally published as comics. I hope they do a 2nd and 3rd season to tell the rest of the story.

I had nothing good left to watch so just clicked the title and after 1st episodes we are all binging . Brilliantly plotted, Excellent Cinematography, Very good acting by every character. No BS straight to the point except for the last 10 minutes where everything is rushed like crazy. I feel the last 10 minutes should have been kept for the end of season 2 instead because its a lot to digest suddenly but we still liked it. It had to have epic ending. But overall this was worth watching and now we cant wait for Season 2 . Hope Netflix renews it soon. Ignore the bad ratings and just start watching , you wont regret it. This one is easily 7+ rating show.
As an English speaker I don't often watch foreign language shows with subtitles, but I decided to give this one a watch. I'm glad I did. Sure, the dialogue, at times, was horrific and some of the effects were a little questionable. The story was pretty good, although mostly predictable. The young cast was able to portray emotion at key moments that caught me off guard and was really impressive. The ending was exceptionally well filmed and is worth watching all 6 episodes for. Except for the final moments which felt rushed and could almost been from a completely different series. I will definitely watch the next season if there is one, if only to see where they take the story next.
Didn't have high hopes about the show since I'm not a big fan of religious faith. But after 1st episode I was hooked & couldn't stop watching. This show has bit of Stranger Things vibe to it, too bad it's only 6 episodes (Well crafted episodes I must say). Young cast was incredible at portraying so many emotions, which is impressive since all of them seems to be new to acting, Can't wait for the next season but since this show is on Netflix I highly doubt it will happen cause they are keep cancelling good shows & renewing S*** shows. Either way this show is something you should see just to see that exploding season finale.....

"The Chosen One" based in Baja California, Mexico was a complete masterpiece including exciting, suspenseful and stomach wrenching moments. It is a cinematic masterpiece and is still wildly overlooked after it's unexpected success. Do you like Stranger Things?, then you'll love this as it embodies the fantastic themes of Stranger Things and expands them into a whole to world. It brought new perspectives into the world of TV Shows and Netflix had a brilliant idea with this and were able to bring it to life. Wagner, has a bright future in the world of acting and I hope he is able to land a job soon enough because he was extremely underrated. I can't wait for future seasons.

I watched the entire series except for a little bit of episode two. I was mesmerized, drawn into each scene and full of dread and excitement at different times. The composition of each scene was stunning, all the details and lighting captured the mood. The flow from interior scenes to exterior scenes was flawless, even the exterior lighting was flawless and realistic. Surprises arose throughout the series and even at the end. There were very few moments in which I said, "I knew that would happen" . There was never a moment in which I thought this was enough. It is a "must" that you watch until the credits roll at the end of the last episode.
I am a non-believer, and as I was shocked by the movie "The Last Temptation" so in this case I watched it in ecstasy. Masterpiece. If it was a movie, it would definitely win an Oscar for Best Picture and Best Cinematography. The series is amazing with deep meanings and allegories and is very well structured. I've had years of being so into it and not being able to stop watching.
Luckily I didn't mind the low score which I rarely do.
I didn't like the last 10 minutes either but I cried in the previous 10 minutes and that doesn't detract from the overall value of the series. I rate it 9 out of 10. Big gem. Well done.

Ok, I don't write many reviews but this show deserves praise (oops, no pun intended). Here's how I feel, if you may be upset by religion being the theme of a piece of fiction please don't watch them and then give bad ratings. People's beliefs are just that, beliefs. As a non-believer, I was very much entertained by the evolution of this story. It needed to take place where it did because none of what happened is possible in America. It was perfectly set. The character building was great, the twists great, the suspense, the emotion, the cinematography, camera work, and location all great. Highest of quality. Top marks for music! The score and soundtrack is so awesome I will def watch this again just to feel it all again! The acting was fantastic and the big climactic scene... just WOW. Ending was very well done. There were some comments about the white blue eyed man message and in my opinion it isn't a message, it's projection. It's also not a Netflix story. White men have done a good enough job demonizing themselves than tv and films do. There are lots of movies about the chosen one, messiahs, angels, demons, good vs evil but this was actually thought all the way out to the very end and didn't fall apart at any stage of the story. It was crafted by gifted storytellers. I hope you watch it. Some more details to keep people who may not appreciate it from leaving bad reviews is that it's basically a young adult piece. All of the main characters are 12. They are likable and they all care about each other. There is some teen romance and underage drinking. There are weird scenes of a voice whispering to Jodie, lots of flashbacks, and some 'oh come on' moments but it was all part of the ride. And one more thing, I really wish people would enjoy tv and film a little more by not trippin out so much on how realistic everything needs to be. Just remember Movie Phone guys voice, "In a world...." and then allow the creators to take you there.

I watched this when I had nothing else to watch, but it builds, and by the last couple episodes you have to keep going. I'll admit, I was moved and teared up. If you have a soul in you, you will feel this.
The moments of pridefulness crossed with care, confused me as intended...but I guessed right in the end. I feel Tuka may have been the real thing(trying not to ruin it for others), I really loved his character! I also loved the transformation of some of the bad boys. Sometimes we all need to watch something that touches our hearts, this did.
I guess I need to write a few more characters to get this posted.......
