Full Metal Alchemist’s next film adaptation will be live-action, with fans of the extremely popular anime already getting fired up.
The filming will begin this June in Italy, with the release in Japan being scheduled for 2017. The movie will use a combination of real actors and CGI. Fumihiko Sori (“Ping Pong”, “Ashita no Joe”) will direct and the cast revealed is as follows:
Ryosuke Yamada (Asssassination Classroom) as Edward Elric.
Tsubasa Honda (Blue Spring Ride) as Winry Rockbell.
Dean Fujioka (Dance! Dance! Dance!) as Roy Mustang.
Ryuta Sato (Tokyo Tribe) as Captain Maes Hughes.
Yo Oizumi (Kakekomi) as Major Shou Tucker.
Yasuko Matsuyuki (Smuggler) as Lust.
Kanata Hongo (Attack on Titan) as Envy.
Shinji Uchiyama (Gokusen: The Movie) as Gluttony.

“Cyborg She” sees Korean director Kwak Jae Yong of “My Sassy Girl” fame switching to Japanese for a genre blending romantic comedy that adds a science fiction, time travelling twist to his usual formula. Also known as “My Girlfriend is a Cyborg”, the film is not to be confused with “Oldboy” director Park Chan Wook’s “I’m a Cyborg but that’s Ok”, with which it shares a vaguely similar premise. If anything, Kwak’s film is even wackier and more oddball, managing to throw in pretty much everything imaginable, whilst still remaining not only highly enjoyable, but also surprisingly moving. The more I see of this upcoming movie addition to the Gokusen canon the more I can see that the production team behind it is really, really catering to only fans of the show. Thus dictates how successful they will be at the box office but with the new trailer and announcement of a lot of the returning cast from the first two seasons making appearances in the film it should boost their success at home in Japan. And then there are the gaijin like me who like the show as well who will want to see this as well but will have to resort to getting it on DVD cause I don’t imagine this could travel outside of Japan as a stand alone film.
