Not as awful as the director's previous, unwatchable outing, 'Till Death Do Us Part,' but Anggy Umbara's 'Devil on Top' still feels bland and uninteresting to watch due to its undercooked plots and characters while most of its jokes fall flat. The acting is pedestrian but no one could have salvaged anything from the lousy screenplay and direction.

Now, the 2021 Indonesian movie "Devil On Top" is labeled as a romantic comedy. And I have to admit that when I sat down to watch it, I was expecting that type of movie.

And imagine my surprise when there wasn't even an ounce of comedy in the movie. Nay, this was a romantic drama without anything that was even remotely funny in nature. So this movie from writers Rayhan Dharmawan and Anggy Umbara was somewhat of a swing and a miss in terms of entertaining me.

The storyline in the movie was adequate enough, but it was slowed down by a sluggish narrative, rather dull and one-dimensional characters and some rather clumsy dialogue. And that made it rather difficult to get submerged into the storyline and take the movie overly serious.

Given my limited exposure to the Indonesian cinema, then I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in "Devil On Top". It should be noted that they had a fair enough ensemble of actors and actresses, just a shame that they had so very little to work with in terms of script, characters and dialogue.

Sit down to watch "Devil On Top" with the intention of watching a romantic drama, and you might not be as disappointed with director Anggy Umbara's 2021 movie as I was.

The production value in the movie was good, I will say that much.

My rating of "Devil On Top" lands on a four out of ten stars.

The plots did not support the main story of the film, it did not help the characters and how we are forced to feel empathy towards cinta laura's character near the end of the movie feels like such a shock (not the good kind), the dialogues doesn't feel natural it was very awkward, the jokes are really bad non of the jokes landed well, there's so much going on that we as the viewers got lost watching the whole film, the quality of the editing, scoring and production design could be so much better it looks really bland and did not support the character or tell the characters story through the sets and costumes.

Wait What The Hell I just watch, the movie it's fun to watch and good until the plot twist come it's was so weird, really really Bad ending.
