Why Will James Gunn Not Focus On Superman And Batman’s Origin Stories? ( Photo Credit – Flickr )
James Gunn is the co-ceo of DC Studios. He is a visionary filmmaker spearheading efforts to rebrand the DC Universe or Dcu. Famous for his films Guardians of the Galaxy and Suicide Squad, Gunn is Dcu’s answer to Kevin Feige from the MCU. Trying to correct Dceu from its unlucky streak over the years, this reboot seeks to finally replicate the success of DC’s Comics, animations, and standalone movies into a shared live-action franchise.
The most awaited project under Gunn’s leadership is Superman: Legacy. The movie is set to launch the revamped Dcu in July 2025. It stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The film promises to deliver a fresh take on the Man of Steel. However, Gunn boldly decided the movie would not revisit Superman’s origin story.

Margot Robbie still wonders why people are obsessed with Harley Quinn’s toxic love for the Joker. In a interview, Robbie admitted she dove deep into fan forums to figure out why Harley resonates with so many people. But there’s one thing she still can’t quite understand: why do fans love that Harley is all in for a guy who treats her like garbage?
“I just wanted to understand what people loved about her and make sure I could deliver that on-screen and make them happy,” Robbie said. But even after all the research, she was still baffled by this whole “mad man” thing. “People respond to the fact she loves a madman. The DC Universe will officially kick off with the release of Creature Commandos next month, but as certain elements and actors from previous Dceu projects are returning, fans have been confused about what is canon and what isn’t in the new universe. While speaking with IGN, DC Studios co-head James Gunn said almost all of the first season of Peacemaker is canon, with one big exception.
“Now in Creature Commandos, you’ll hear them talk about things that happened in [The] Suicide Squad or Peacemaker. Well then, those things automatically become canon,” Gunn said. “The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League… which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker.” The finale of Peacemaker‘s first season involved the Justice League (with Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ezra Miller as Flash) showing up late to the party, with...

James Gunn and Peter Safran are working to create a new DC cinematic universe after the Dceu. One of the successful projects to continue into this new era is James Gunn’s Peacemaker, which will return for a second season as part of the Dcu.
Gunn confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be canon in the Dcu and reassured fans that the transition from the Dceu to the Dcu will be clear and easy to follow without confusion.
James Gunn assured fans that Peacemaker Season 2 will fit perfectly into the new Dcu storyline. However, he clarified that Peacemaker Season 1 will not be considered canon within the Dcu.
Some exceptions were made for Peacemaker Season 1 due to its ties to The Suicide Squad, particularly the storyline involving Rick Flag Jr.’s death. Gunn had previously stated that only certain parts of the old Dceu would be considered canon.

James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently hard at work trying to kickstart a brand new cinematic universe based on DC comics characters following the ill-fated Dceu. One of the most notable projects to survive the “reset” was James Gunn’s own ‘Peacemaker’ a show that’s returning for a second season this time as a part of Dcu.
Co-CEO of DC Studios confirmed that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 will be part of the Dcu canon. He assured fans that the transition from the Dceu to the Dcu, especially for ‘Peacemaker,’ will be smooth and easy to follow, without causing confusion.
Gunn emphasized that he will make sure the show fits seamlessly into the new Dcu storyline.
But what about ‘Peacemaker’ season 1? Well, the first word was that the season won’t be canon to the Dcu.

Back in 2018, James Gunn, the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, was hired to write a soft reboot of the Suicide Squad movie titled, simply, The Suicide Squad. The film underperformed financially but jived well with critics and audiences. My feelings about the film can be summed up as such: meh. It was fine. In 2020, Gunn began work on Peacemaker, a spin off TV series, which was released in 2022. It also received solid reviews from critics and audiences, but I was not a fan, personally. There were elements to be enjoyed like some fast paced action, but the overall silliness was not for me.
Then, about eleven months later, in November of 2022, DC Studios and Warner Brothers hired Gunn and Peter Safran to oversee the entire DC universe of films. I thought Gunn was an interesting choice and was definitely willing to give him a chance.
The Dceu certainly needed some direction.

Marvel had a rough year in 2023. Many of its properties underperformed, and they lost their big villain due to Jonathan Majors being fired. Looking forward to their upcoming slate, comic fans have been excited about some of the studio’s projects over the next few years. Will these films help Marvel regain control? The upcoming Thunderbolts film has been one that fanboys have been hoping to see since the MCU started. With some recent news about the property coming up, it seems like the right time to break down what we know about the production.
Who Are The Thunderbolts?
The team first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1997 in an issue of The Incredible Hulk. They seemed to be a new group of superheroes that had arrived on the scene and gained acclaim very quickly. The reader was informed that the group was actually a group of supervillains led by Baron Zemo.

It’s safe to say Helldivers 2 has faced its fair share of ups and downs since its release in February. Despite these challenges, the game has managed to build a dedicated playerbase that is committed to doing whatever it takes to spread democracy across the galaxy. Players are drawn to the chaotic, fast-paced combat that constantly forces them to think on their feet, making each mission feel fresh and engaging.

However, what truly sets the game apart is its ability to keep the player engaged without leaning too much on the microtransaction. Recently, the game has once again rejuvenated its player base with a steady stream of updates and meaningful changes. In doing so, players are starting to realize that perhaps it’s time to raise their standards when it comes to modern games.

At one point, Will Smith was the biggest movie star in the world. While he had a bit of a PR snafu (to put it lightly) a couple of years ago when he slapped Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars, he's recovered well in the eyes of the public, given the success of this year's "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" at the box office. Margot Robbie, meanwhile, is about as big as modern stars get, with her rise to stardom culminating in last year's mega-hit "Barbie." So, what happens when you put these two big stars in a movie together? You get a number one hit on Netflix. It just so happens that the movie in question was made nearly a decade ago.

Thunderbolts* is one of the many upcoming MCU movies, but it stands out for a few key reasons. First, it will bring Marvel’s version of the Suicide Squad to the MCU. Second, it will introduce Sentry, one of the most powerful characters in comics, to the big screen.
The movie will also bring back some of our favorite (anti)heroes, including Red Guardian, played by David Harbour, and Yelena Belova, the MCU’s current Black Widow, played by Florence Pugh.
At the recent D23 panel in Brazil, Hugo Gloss spoke with David Harbour about the upcoming movie. The actor shared that the characters’ superpowers are closely tied to their personal struggles and flaws. He believes these powers are not just individual strengths but are stronger when the characters work together and support each other.

Thunderbolts* is one of several MCU movies coming out next year, and fans have a lot to look forward to. The film will bring a brand-new team of misfits to the MCU, similar to DC’s Suicide Squad.
It will also introduce one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes, Sentry. Plus, several anti-heroes and former villains from past MCU films will return, including fan-favorite Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier.

At a hefty three-and-a-half minutes long, the first teaser trailer for Marvel's upcoming supervillain team-up joint Thunderbolts* did a pretty solid job (re-)introducing the members of director Jake Schreier's ragtag band of ne'er-do-wells. In fact, with its well-placed 'Where Is My Mind?' needledrop, grounded action set pieces, and The Winter Soldier reminiscent political thriller vibes, it as good as had us sold already on the prospect of seeing Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, David Harbour's Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes, and some of the McU's underutilised baddies thrown together, Suicide Squad style. But just in case you needed any more persuading, the new special look at the movie that premiered at D23 Brazil this past weekend is a real clincher — not least because it hints at the reason for that pesky asterisk! Check it out below:

Marvel Studios debuted a new special look trailer for “Thunderbolts*” at the first Brazil D23 event on Saturday. David Harbour, who stars in the movie as Red Guardian after debuting in “Black Widow,” was at the event and introduced the trailer.
The nearly four-minute-long trailer kicks off with a scene that features Harbour, Florence Pugh, Wyatt Russell and Olga Kurylenko driving in a Red Guardian car, apparently to evade S.H.I.E.L.D. forces. The four soon realize Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, is following on motorcycle and are thrilled — “That guy, he’s so cool,” says Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov admiringly — before Bucky fires at their own vehicle.
As Pugh’s Yelena Belova puts it, “That’s not good.”
The group then convene in Stark Tower, now owned by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), who notes “the place wasn’t cheap, but it’s got good optics.

‘Thunderbolts*’ is easily one of the most exciting upcoming projects in the MCU. So far the movie is expected to introduce a team similar to DC’s ‘Suicide Squad’ comprising of former villains and anti-heroes who are presumably, now on a better path in the MCU.
The movie will also introduce Sentry, one of the most powerful Marvel characters, played by Lewis Pullman.
We seemingly know all the members of the team. David Harbor will return to reprise his role as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen is returning as Ghost, Sebastian Stan is returning as Bucky Barnes, and Wyatt Russell is returning as John Walker aka U.S. Agent.
Olga Kurylenko will reprise her role of Taskmaster and Florence Pugh naturally will return as Yelena Belova aka MCU’s new Black Widow.

Multiple bigwigs of Hollywood came out to endorse and encourage the public to vote for the US presidential elections. James Gunn also stepped forward to reveal that he had cast his vote while encouraging others to also partake in the action.
However, the director may not have envisioned his simple election post to reignite an older movement related to the DC franchise. Since the release of Suicide Squad in 2016, fans have been urging the makers to reveal David Ayer’s cut for the film. The Training Day director confessed that the final output greatly differed from his vision, and fans are eager to witness the changes.

Every trend comes and goes. And it feels like, here in the '20s, cinema is on the waning edge of several of them. The uncontrolled bloat of major studios' streaming services came to a halt with last year's writers and actors' strikes, causing many of said services to curtail their spending habits. Major entertainment franchises ("Star Wars") made big cinematic plans, only to cancel them after several high-profile failures, inspiring a pivot to TV that's only proven sporadically successful.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an especially interesting case, having managed to crank out a few notable hits since the release of "Avengers: Endgame" in 2019. Still, the franchise has, in the last five years, begun to increasingly lose money due to films under-performing at the box office, troubled productions leading to a massive ballooning of budgets ("Secret Invasion" cost how much??), and a waning interest in its overwhelming glut of content.

Throughout her already prolific career, producer/actor Margot Robbie has proven herself to have a taste that's as discerning as it is eclectic. Most actors attempt to demonstrate their ability to take on as large of a range of projects as possible, yet the demands of the business and marketing sides of the film industry usually see them typecast in some form, usually in a genre if not a specific type of role. This is why Robbie's career is worth pointing out for how diverse it is; she's been able to find a niche for herself that has allowed her to easily move between action films, dramas, period pieces like "Mary Queen Of Scots," comedies, genre flicks, and prestige pics, all while growing her A-list status and not being relegated to either an awards-bait character actor or a paycheck-bait comic book movie star. As a producer, she's demonstrated a steady...

If superhero movies are a family, then "Venom" is definitely the eccentric cousin. Sony's trilogy of films star Tom Hardy as investigative journalist Eddie Brock, and also as the voice of Venom, the alien symbiote that Eddie has "up [his] ass" (to use his own phrasing). It's definitely an unconventional domestic partnership, but there's a unique charm to it.
All three "Venom" movies have received mixed reviews, but some critics have been positively enchanted by the trilogy's messy-but-entertaining energy. On the audience side, "Venom" and "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" both received B+ CinemaScore grades, based on opening day audience polling (the same score as Marvel Cinematic Universe entry "Thor" and DC movies like "Suicide Squad" and "Justice League"). More recently, "Venom: The Last Dance" broke that trend by earning a B- CinemaScore.
That pattern is different in the Rotten Tomatoes scores for the three moves, which reflect the balance of positive vs.

Some things in life are just certain. Death. Taxes. Robert Pattinson affecting a weird accent in a movie. So, which ones are his absolute weirdest? The competition is pretty tough, if I'm being honest.
Pattinson's accent work isn't just some running bit; as he told Terry Gross and NPR in 2019, it's an essential part of his process. After saying that he and his friends spent their childhoods listening to American rap music and mimicking the accents, Pattinson continued, "And still to this day, I mean, whenever I'm doing a movie or a character in an English accent, I mean, I find -- I literally feel like I'm naked. And I can't -- I'm incapable of doing my normal voice in a character. It just doesn't come out at all. It's -- every single time I read something, the first thing to change is -- has something to do with my voice.

Tom Hardy is finally saying goodbye to his version of Venom in the last and latest entry in the franchise Venom: The Last Dance. The actor has played the role for six years, beginning with 2018’s Venom, and though the films themselves have received mixed reviews, Hardy and the symbiote’s relationship and performance have always been praised.
While the latest film is rated PG-13, Hardy mentioned that they did have ideas to make it R-rated and go all the way like Hugh Jackman’s final film (before his comeback this year) Logan. The actor mentioned that though he and director Kelly Marcel were down for the idea, they kept it PG-13 as the rest of the films were similarly rated.

Grant Gustin’s The Flash series is considered among the best live-action iterations of the Scarlet Speedster. Although the series’ quality took a nosedive in the concluding seasons, Gustin received widespread praise for his performance. Later, Ezra Miller also played a version of Flash in the Dceu films, but they could not leave a significant impact on the fans.

Even financially, Grant Gustin had a far better run than Miller’s. With only a single solo film in their hand, Ezra Miller could not rake in a massive amount. On the other hand, playing the Speedster across 9 seasons for a decade made Gustin a standout performer among his other CW co-stars.

With the recent (extremely disappointing) release of "Joker: Folie a Deux," there is nothing standing between the old DC and the new DC Universe, which kicks off later this year when the animated "Creature Commandos" arrives on Max. Then DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran's plans kick into high gear next summer when Gunn's new "Superman" movie hits theaters. What are those plans, exactly? An ever-growing list of movies and TV shows has already been confirmed, and put simply, the DC Universe is getting a reboot. Unfortunately, there is still some confusion for the time being.
The easiest thing would be for Warner Bros. and DC Studios to say "we're starting over completely fresh. Nothing from the former Dceu counts, but everything going forward does." Unfortunately, it's not so simple. Certain projects that were in the works before are going to be ushered in as part of the future.

After making history together with “Barbie,” Margot Robbie and Warner Bros. are at it again. The LuckyChap producer and star is set to lead frequent collaborator Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of “Wuthering Heights,” which is now officially a Warner Bros. Motion Pictures Group title. IndieWire can confirm that the studio won MRC’s highly-anticipated feature after what we’re told was “a fierce bidding war.”
As previously announced, MRC is the studio financing the film, with Robbie’s LuckyChap producing. Fennell wrote and will direct and produce the feature-film adaptation based on the Emily Brontë novel. Robbie leads the feature as Cathy, who becomes intoxicated with the brooding Heathcliff. Fennell’s “Saltburn” star Jacob Elordi is playing the iconic Heathcliff.
The film is now in pre-production, with UK shoot set for 2025. Writer/director Fennell already teased the project with an Instagram post featuring the title and the tagline “Be with me always.
