The entire production was filmed on location in Sunset, South Carolina and Brevard , North Carolina. Cell service was near non-existent, causing issues for communications.
The film is set around the holidays, and the intention was to have the actor's natural reaction to the cold weather. Unfortunately, it was mostly mild during production thus losing the natural cold breath effect and body chill.
Catering for the cast and crew was a major challenge since the nearest restaurant and store was over 45-minutes away. Every morning, two hours prior to call time, the coordinator would travel to pick up food ordered the night before. By the time breakfast was finished and filming commenced for the day, he had to start figuring out lunch plans.
The cast were housed in several cabins on the property where filming took place, and crew filled up a lodge a mile away.
David Schifter, the writer and executive producer of the film, wrote it based on problems his ex-wife was having with the owner of a mountain retreat she was buying. Names were changed and details embellished.
