Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy's untitled Star Wars movie took a hyperspace jump forward with the casting of Ryan Gosling in the lead role back in January, but plot details are still very much under wraps.
Now, scooper Mttsh has shared some new rumors relating to the mysterious project.
Apparently, the movie will "have a significantly smaller budget" than the previous Disney-era films, and is described as "a more contained" story. Gosling's unnamed lead is also said to be accompanied by a younger character who is a Jedi Padawan.
This had led to speculation that the movie could be set in an era when the Jedi were still active (likely before the events of A New Hope), but Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy has since confirmed that it will actually be a post-The Rise of Skywalker story.

Ryan Gosling is to become the newest addition to the Star Wars universe after news emerged that he will star in an as-yet-untitled franchise movie to be directed by Shawn Levy.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gosling is to join a project that was first revealed in 2022, as one of several films that Star Wars producer Lucasfilm is developing simultaneously. Levy, whose previous film was the record-breaking Deadpool & Wolverine, said that Jonathan Tropper, with whom he worked on This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, is writing the screenplay.

Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in a new “Star Wars” film, this one from director Shawn Levy, according to multiple media reports, representing one of the first major developments in the feature film plans for the “Star Wars” brand.
Levy’s project has been in development for years — all the way back to 2022 — with others being added to the overall slate since then. But with Gosling potentially joining the galaxy far, far away, it’s a big shot in the arm to the franchise and makes it likely this would be the next feature film to go.
Lucasfilm and reps for Gosling did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
For this one, Jonathan Tropper is writing the script, reuniting with Levy and his 21 Laps production banner after working together on “This Is Where I Leave You” and “The Adam Project.” But it’s unclear what era...

Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in Shawn Levy’s untitled “Star Wars” movie, according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
“The Adam Project” writer Jonathan Tropper wrote the script.
Levy has been attached to the project since 2022 and additional details about the film are being kept under wraps. Tropper and Levy have previously collaborated on the 2014 family drama “This Is Where I Leave You,” as well as on the script for the Mark Raso-directed Netflix film “Kodachrome,” which Levy produced.
Levy is well aware of the number of directors who’ve developed “Star Wars” movies in the past that did not get made — and he’s committed to getting his project across the finish line.
Previously, he acknowledged the odds against him, but enthusiastically stated his intention to develop a film worth making. “I’ve been talking with Kathy Kennedy for a while now, and...

The Force is with Ryan Gosling.
The “Barbie” and “La La Land” star is in negotiations to star in an untitled “Star Wars” movie to be directed by “Deadpool & Wolverine” filmmaker Shawn Levy. Screenwriter Jonathan Tropper has been writing the screenplay for the film, which Levy has been developing since late 2022. Levy — who will join the rarefied club of directors who’ve worked with both Canadian movie stars named Ryan — is also producing via 21 Laps, along with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
The movie is said to be a standalone project that isn’t connected with the Skywalker Saga, which concluded with 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” All other plot details are encased in carbonite for the foreseeable future.
But Gosling’s involvement could jump the project into light speed, moving it to the pole position of Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars” film development slate ahead of projects involving directors James Mangold,...

We hear that it’s true — the Barbie superstar is in talks to join Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie.
Levy and Jonathan Tropper have been working on their Star Wars movie for two years. There is an untitled Star Wars movie on the release calendar for December 17, 2027. The next Star Wars movie is The Mandalorian and Grogu scheduled for May 22, 2026. Tropper co-wrote the Levy movies The Adam Project and This Is Where I Leave You.
Levy is a must-have, must-keep director for Disney: he delivered them the highest grossing R-rated movie of all-time with Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine which grossed $1.33 billion worldwide.
While details are under wraps for the latest Lucasfilm movie, it is reportedly not connected to the Luke Skywalker core canon of Episodes I-ix, and will be a standalone movie. The new hope out there is that it goes into production this fall. Duly note, there...

Ryan Gosling is headed to the great galaxy far, far away.
The three-time Oscar nominee is in negotiations to topline the Star Wars feature project that will be directed by Deadpool & Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy.

As much as Adam Driver's career has reached some impressive highs, it has been met with some notable lows. On the one hand, Driver has been a part of some major moneymakers over the past decade. All three of his Star Wars movies made over $1 billion, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens making just shy of $2.1 billion. On the other hand, however, Driver has played roles in films that have lost boatloads of money. Most infamously, he played the lead in Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis, which made a mere $13.8 million on an $120 million budget.
The same disparity applies to the critical reception of Driver's films as well. The actor has been a part of indie darlings like Frances Ha and Inside Llewyn Davis that have earned Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes scores of over 90%. His work has been praised in similarly high-scoring movies like Paterson and Marriage Story. On the other hand,...

Adam Driver's career has starkly divided both critics and audiences. The actor's strong points have been quite so, with films such as BlacKkKlansman and Paterson scoring a universally positive 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Driver's career has also included several other movies with Rotten Tomatoes scores in the 90s, including early indie hits such as Frances Ha and Inside Llewyn Davis as well as mainstream favorites like Star Wars: The Force Awakens. On the other hand, the actor's lows have gone pretty low, including his 36% Tomatometer for 65 and 44% for This is Where I Leave You.
What is odd about Driver is that even his better-rated movies have been the subject of mockery and memes. This most notably includes Marriage Story, which, despite earning Driver an Oscar nomination and strong critical reviews, has been the subject of ridicule in the years since its release. This year, Driver was in the mixed-reviewed Megalopolis,...

Adam Driver stars in the upcoming film "Father, Mother, Sister, Brother" along with an ensemble cast. The movie will directed by Jim Jarmusch is contemplative and focuses on family dynamics, which is very similar to Driver's 2014 movie, "This is Where I Leave You." Though they share the same premise, "Father, Mother, Sister, Brother" should be different from "This is Where I Leave You" in a few key ways.
One of Adam Driver's upcoming movies sounds very similar to his 2014 movie with Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool & Wolverine, and it could be much better. Before directing Deadpool & Wolverine, some of Shawn Levy's best movies were dramas. One of those films starred a young Adam Driver before he landed iconic films like Marriage Story and BlacKkKlansman. While it was one of Driver's early breaks as an actor, it wasn't his best showing. A reserved man with some unresolved childhood issues returns to his hometown for the funeral of a parent. This isn’t only the premise at the heart of Robert Schwartzman’s well-meaning yet timid feature “The Good Half,” but also a recurrent foundation on which many a melancholic American dramedy, from “Elizabethtown” to “Garden State” to “This Is Where I Leave You.”
Pointing out this thematic repetition isn’t necessarily to knock down one of cinema’s favorite topics — after all, familial grief is among the most shared and relatable of human aches. And what are movies, if not an echo of those experiences? But you still go into a film like “The Good Half” hoping that it has something of its own to say on the pains of bereavement. Instead, it just lands like a medley of similar films that came before it.

Shawn Levy has long chafed at the labels Hollywood has placed upon him.
That helps explain the evolution of the Montreal-born filmmaker from go-to family comedy guy (Night at the Museum and Cheaper by the Dozen) to the producer of cerebral Oscar winners (Arrival) and cultural behemoths (Stranger Things).
After a string of successes in the aughts, Levy branched out with the 2011 Amblin-esque feature Real Steel, which earned nearly $300 million globally and showed he could bring his trademark emotionality to the action sphere. It also teamed him with Hugh Jackman, who, like others who have worked with the producer-director, says he creates an empathetic environment on set. “There isn’t one scene that necessarily was ‘the moment we clicked,’ ” Jackman recalls. “It was more a feeling on Real Steel that it made me know this was going to be a lifelong friendship.”

Lucasfilm has thrown a lot of Star Wars ideas at the wall in recent years and, on the big screen at least, most haven't become a reality. Still, the mystery project being helmed by Deadpool & Wolverine and Stranger Things director Shawn Levy just took a big step forward.
According to The Insneider (via SFFGazette.com), the filmmaker has enlisted long-time collaborator Jonathan Tropper to pen the script for his first foray into the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
This isn't a huge shock in some respects as they've been working together for at least the past decade; previous projects include This Is Where I Leave You, Kodachrome (produced by Levy and written by Tropper) and, perhaps most famously, Netflix's The Adam Project.
Tropper also has a long list of television credits to his name, including Banshee Warrior, Your Friends and Neighbors, and Jason Momoa's See (for which the writer...

Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie is picking up some momentum. Lucasfilm has hired screenwriter Jonathan Tropper to pen the script for the feature, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The movie first came to light in November 2022, but has been on the backburner while Levy completed work on this month’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
Tropper is a frequent Levy collaborator, penning Levy’s 2014 family drama This Is Where I Leave You, and writing the Mark Raso-directed Netflix feature Kodachrome (2017), which Levy produced. The Adam Project was their biggest project to date, with the Ryan Reynolds starrer standing as Netflix’s No. 3 original film of all time. Perhaps appropriately, The Adam Project featured a weapon that resembled a lightsaber.
“If there was any doubt about my fanhood of Star Wars and all things a galaxy far, far away, I’ve eliminated that doubt,” Levy told The Hollywood Reporter at the time,...

Way back in November 2022, it was reported that Shawn Levy would be directing a “Star Wars” film. Since then, however, we haven’t heard anything about the project. Well, that’s finally changed, as we know who will be writing the film.
According to Deadline, Shawn Levy’s untitled “Star Wars” film will be written by Jonathan Tropper. The writer has a fairly long history with Levy, having written the Netflix film, “The Adam Project,” as well as the filmmaker’s “This is Where I Leave You.” Trooper is also the man who created the criminally underseen TV series, “Banshee,” as well as “Warrior.”

The news comes as Levy is about to detonate the summer with his directed Marvel Studios feature Deadpool & Wolverine, which some tracking services have at a $200M opening and others as the biggest R-rated domestic start of all-time, beating the original Deadpool‘s $132.4M.
Tropper has a long history with Levy, having written his Netflix movie, The Adam Project, which starred Deadpool‘s Ryan Reynolds. He also wrote the Levy directed Warner Bros 2014 dramedy This Is Where I Leave You and the 2017 Netflix dramedy Kodachrome, which Levy produced under his 21 Laps banner.

Lucy Kerr delivers a surreal and tense twist on the dysfunctional family genre with Family Portrait. With a combination of natural lighting and tricky sound design, the movie keeps viewers guessing about how a seemingly innocuous family get-together holds something far darker. Despite the captivating atmosphere and direction, the movie's lack of major story and character development are sure to leave some underwhelmed, even with its short 78-minute runtime.
The art of surrealist filmmaking is one that has become a rare commodity in the modern cinematic landscape, with filmmakers like David Lynch having a more infrequent presence. With Family Portrait (2023) , however, debuting writer-director Lucy Kerr looks to revive this mysterious and ominous atmosphere through the similarly innocuous titular gathering. And while it does succeed in creating a bizarre atmosphere that captures plenty of simmering tension, it's trapped between being a proof-of-concept short film and a feature-length effort.

Tina Fey, the American actress known for “Saturday Night Live,” “Mean Girls,” “30 Rock,” and “Date Night,” stands at 5 feet 4 ½ inches (163.8 cm). This information comes directly from Fey, who corrected a common misconception about her height in an interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer, saying, “The Internet says I’m 5-foot-2. And I’m 5-4 and a half.”
She also mentioned her height in Glam in 2008. For context, the average American woman is around 5 feet 4 inches (162.5 cm). Therefore, Fey’s height is just slightly above this average, aligning her closely with the height of many American women.

The two big original releases on Netflix this month are Spaceman and 3 Body Problem. In Spaceman, Adam Sandler plays an astronaut alone and far from home who desperately wants to fix things with his wife. When he discovers an enormous alien spider in the bowels of his ship, a conversation between the two gets underway, and Sandler has a chance to make some big changes. To be clear: this is not a comedy!
Meanwhile, new sci-fi series 3 Body Problem hails from Game of Thrones co-creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Along with True Blood writer Alexander Woo, they’ve spun a tale that is set to blow your mind this March. Your mileage may vary, but it certainly looks interesting! And hey, we all love the show’s star, Benedict Wong.

Ferrari, the biographical drama starring Adam Driver as Enzo Ferrari, has received a Fresh 72% score on Rotten Tomatoes. This score is significantly higher than Driver's previous film, 65, which earned a low 34% score. Ferrari marks Driver's first movie since 65 and has brought his year back on track.
Ferrari has set Adam Driver's 2023 back on the right track. His only other movie released this year has been the science fiction actioner 65, in which he stars as a space pilot who crash lands on Earth 65 million years in the past and must fight to save himself and a young survivor from rampaging dinosaurs. 65 was a critical and commercial flop, and the Michael Mann biographical drama Ferrari, in which Driver stars as Enzo Ferrari, marks the actor's first movie since then.

Jon Hamm is getting his own Apple show — finally!
The Emmy-winning Mad Men grad, who previously “begged” Apple for a show of his own in a tongue-in-cheek ad for the streamer, will star in and exec produce the straight-to-series Apple drama Your Friends and Neighbors. The role marks Hamm’s first starring role in an ongoing drama series since AMC’s Mad Men wrapped its seven-season run in 2015.
Your Friends and Neighbors, based on an original idea by Jonathan Tropper (See, Warrior, Banshee), revolves around Coop (Hamm), a recently divorced hedge fund manager who, after being fired, resorts to stealing from the wealthy residents in his tony upstate New York suburb in order to keep his family’s lifestyle afloat. The petty crimes begin to reinvigorate him until he breaks into the wrong house at the wrong time.

After directing three “Night at the Museum” movies, Shawn Levy didn’t want to be confined to directing family comedies for the rest of his career. If you’re doing something successfully, he told IndieWire, it’s easy to be “pigeonholed” by Hollywood into that one thing.
But he’s been far from limited under the banner of his own production company, 21 Laps. Levy and his company have been prolific hit-makers since it launched in 2006, and he has produced and directed everything from indie darlings (“The Spectacular Now”), ambitious Best Picture nominees (“Arrival”), studio blockbuster satires (“Free Guy“), prestige limited series (“All the Light We Cannot See”), Stephen King horror movies (“The Boogeyman”), and the biggest Netflix show ever (“Stranger Things”), all of which depart from the family-friendly event movies on which he cut his teeth.
“You need to refuse to be limited by everyone else’s assumptions,” Levy told IndieWire during a recent interview.

"The windshield wiper blade starts to squeak. The rain has stopped." Don't forget your seatbelt. Enjoy this mesmerizing supercut video featuring "Adam Driver Driving". Edited by the talented Luís Azevedo, this supercut was released by Little White Lies and is meant to be a tie-in with the upcoming release of Ferrari. Believe it or not, 39-year-old actor Adam Driver has been in tons of films where he's driving. This features footage from: "Girls", White Noise, The Dead Don't Die, House of Gucci, This Is Where I Leave You, Logan Lucky, Paterson, While We're Young, and BlacKkKlansman. I love that he includes one of his poems from Paterson (one of my all-time faves) and the way he integrates the back-and-forth Gucci convo. Hilarious. Another great supercut from Azevedo, always editing some of the best cinema videos on YouTube nowadays. // Continue Reading ›...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for 65.The highly anticipated sci-fi thriller 65 has opened with an abysmal Rotten Tomatoes score, a career-worst for lead Adam Driver. The robust dramatic actor makes his return to intergalactic action since Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy wrapped as Commander Mills, in charge of piloting and overseeing a multi-year exploration mission in exchange for the kind of serious money that will cover the cost of treating his daughter's devastating illness. When an asteroid belt causes his ship to crash-land on Earth 65 million years ago, Mills must not only protect himself from its prehistoric predators but a young girl named Koa, the only other survivor. However, this intriguing premise has not been enough to save 65 from becoming a critical disappointment.

This weekend, Netflix is adding a documentary about a mysterious disappearance, the second part of the latest season of one of the platform’s most successful TV shows, and a long-awaited movie about a detective. Last weekend, Netflix welcomed a long list of licensed content, most notably the comedies Easy A, Magic Mike Xxl, and The Hangover trilogy, the musical Burlesque, the rom-com Sleepless in Seattle, the sci-fi adventure The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, and the drama movie This Is Where I Leave You, along with season 2 of the Italian TV series Framed! A Sicilian Murder Mystery, the Spanish rom-com Love at First Kiss, and season 2 of the reality TV series Next in Fashion.
Unlike last week, this weekend Netflix won’t see the addition of much licensed content, with the arrival of the horror movie World War Z, the Bollywood drama Rekka, the comedy Do Your Worst!

Like most film adaptions, This Is Where I Leave You drastically changed Jonathan Tropper's original novel. The film was released five years after the book hit shelves and starred big names like Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, and Jane Fonda. The story follows a dysfunctional family who returns home after their father's death to fulfill his dying wish for the family to sit Shiva for a week at their childhood home. The dynamic brings up a lot of unhealed wounds and anger that the siblings have toward each other, especially with the siblings' current family and marriage situations.
Judd Altman (Bateman) learns at the start of the film that his wife, Quinn Altman (Abigail Spencer), has been cheating on him with his Boss, Wade Beaufort, for a year. At home with his family, he has to cope with his wife's cheating and his marriage falling apart while also putting up with his siblings.

This Is Where I Leave You was filmed in various locations around New York, including Long Island and Westchester Country. The film follows the Altman family as they gather at their childhood home after their father passes away for a week-long Shiva. The film unveils the chaotic family dynamic as well as the issues each Altman son or daughter is having in their marriages. Before joining his family, Judd Altman (Jason Bateman) finds out his wife, Quinn Altman (Abigail Spencer), has been cheating on him with his boss for a year, and he had no idea until he walked in on them in his bedroom.
This leads him to reconnect with his former girlfriend, Penny Moore (Rose Byrne), right before finding out that his wife is pregnant with his baby. The dysfunctional family dynamic is evident early in This Is Where I Leave You as the Altman's struggle to get along in their childhood home,...
