Chainsaw Man isn't what it seems. If you haven't read the original series and only watched this season you might be thinking, ''It just follows all the other tropes in anime'' but soon enough it completely flips it on your head. For example Denji might just seem like a horny teenage boy who wants to cop a feel but that is completely incorrect. Denji isn't just a horny boy, he is confused, his whole life he hasn't had any proper human connection and has only been able to imagine what a normal life is, so when he gets that opportunity to eat good grub and even possibly get a girlfriend, he shoots for it. But nothing is what it seems for him. Denji doesn't understand humans, he doesn't understand himself. He lives life to fast as if it's his last day on Earth. The irony of him wanting to escape his past life just to be a pet for another person. I'd explain a lot more on why it is amazing but I can't without spoiling it. Oh and he can turn into a Chainsaw.

After such a long wait and so much hype, it finally hit the screen and man it delivered so hard.
Of course the first episode was far from perfect. It definitely had some flaws from the point of view of storytelling and character building. But, did it entertain? Hell Yeah!
The action was great, the character design was great, the voice actors were awesome, and the animation, breathtaking. MAPPA is on steroids. Though some improvements can be made to the CG work on part of the main character. You'll understand what I mean when you watch it. Besides that, the direction was great. If some note is to be taken from the trailers, then there it a lot to be hyped for in the upcoming episodes.

It'll bow your mind with insane plot-twists and world-building. I wasn't a fan of the beginning of CSM 'cuz it seemed a bit ludicrous and it took me some time to understand this unique world. After finishing the first vol, it was one of the best piece of manga I've ever got to experience. Top-notch quality.
Now, onto the first episode, I have to point out the wonky CGI fight was quite distractive. I thought they would only use it to an extend, at least for the first episode, but it felt over-used. Then, the OP was fire both visuals and music. And so was the ed. Then, the Cinematography, direction was very cinematic. So was the OSTs. Anyway, I'm looking forward to more CSM content.

Chainsaw is one of my all time favorite mangas and seeing it get a anime made me feel free. The way they composed the episode like a movie is nothing ever done before in anime history. It was daring and it payed off. I've seen some complaints about the cgi and I would agree that in some scenes it did look off. Especially the scenes when he stands still in devil form. Other than that the cgi is the best anime cgi I have ever seen, it made the character feel real and life like. I also love the dark atmosphere the episode brought out and THE GORE there's not many anime where you can see gore in such high quality and detail. I can't wait for more chainsaw and I'm hoping it succeeds in the future.
The first episode of Chainsaw Man was an excellent pilot for the introduction of this long-awaited series, MAPPA did an excellent job (as always) and I am eager to see where the story will lead. Very good storytelling, character design and voice acting, and impeccably handled animation. World and characters equally interesting. At the moment it still feels quite derivative, but certainly as the story develops the anime will have the possibility of portraying its real strength and uniqueness. In any case, a really intriguing start for an anime already destined to become a new classic in the next few years.

This was really good ep, it had amazing animation and amazing storytelling. The voice acting was so good, I have been waiting for so long for this to come out as an anime so when it did, I wasn't disappointed, i was super impressed and so happy that chainsaw man is finally here. If chainsaw man keeps this up it can may be the number one show this year, but there is a lot of competition. Although this episode was amazing it wasn't perfect at any means, the cg wasn't that impressive and I thought they used way to much of CGI and I'm not that big fan of the 3d.im not saying that that it is bad but I'm saying that I was expecting better in the cg, and another think is sometimes in the anime the quality wasn't all that god it was like it was 720 but i had it in 1080 that was strange, I also wished the background was bitterer and cleaner and have better lighting I found that in some shots the lighting was a bit bland but over all I would give the first ep 8,4.

Anyone giving this less than 8-9 stars is unhinged. It's perfection. The animation is top notch. The story is top notch. The voice acting is top notch. I don't think that they could've done anything better. There isn't anything novel left in the world, so of course it's going to be a bit derivative, but this show has taken all the aspects I like of other animes and combined them beautifully. I am looking forward to future episodes. I really enjoyed overlord and berserk, they were my favorite shows up until this point. I am almost certain that this show will become my new favorite. I will update my review if this changes.
This show is both pretty incredible, and incredibly pretty - not only is MAPPA's workforce of animators full of some of the best in the industry, but the cinematography, music, voice acting, and use colour and storyboard off the charts, making it one of the best looking shows of the year.
The story itself is amazing, although that's to be expected from a work written by Tatsuki Fujimoto - the characters are all highly enjoyable to watch interact and grow, the worldbuilding is always interesting, the comedy is hilarious, the horror aspects are unsettling, the pacing helps to make the show entertaining constantly, the action is intense and bombastically over-the-top in the best way possible, and overall the show is a treat. If there's any show this month that you need to look out for, it's Chainsaw Man.

An incredible episode. We waited csm for almost two years and I've got to say that the wait was worth it. Incredible animation, like really really great, almost photorealistic. The soundtracks were incredibly accurate for the precise scenes. There aren't any censored scenes, so you'll see a lot of blood (chainsaw man is a dark manga, it has lots of blood spilling and characters die is really gruesome ways. Even though it was the first episode, it shows how Denji lived. He lived in a dusty and small shack. It shows how some people actually live, where they have to pay enormous debts and get constantly abused and mistreated by criminals. The opening was also really good, it has a lot of film references, like pulp fiction or Texas chainsaw massacre. As I said, I think that this is one of the best first episodes is all of the animes.
I have no idea why this show was hyped so high this last year because while it is a little quirky and weird with some cool animation, it doesn't really do much of anything. Like it seems like a cool premise but it doesn't have a lot of things going on or deeper intricate plot. Like it's almost like a teaser for something more to come, which is cool but doesn't make me want to give this a 8-9. This feels like a trial for something that will come soon that might actually be compelling and interesting. Unfortunately right now it doesn't really meet that standard while still being a good look into a new world.

So this guy takes on his father's debt, which is enormous, and is so desperate he even trades one of his eyes for a small relief of his debt. He's at his wit's end, and he makes a pact with a special and most likely underrated demon pet to save his own skin. He gains massive powers, but at what cost?
It's a story we've all heard before. The show uses techniques to lure us in, such as mixing bizarre with common demonology, to give us a character on which the main character depends, portraying a dynamic of friendship, and dependency, that relies on the bond of loyalty and cuteness. A cute "chainsaw creature"? I mean c'mon, it's new and engaging, but almost too much of a stress for attention.
Regardless, so far, it's a fun, violent watch. Suspend disbelief, because before the REAL absurdity starts, the audience is expected to believe that the main HUMAN character has sharpened teeth, and a demon chainsaw-dog as a pet, which will become the focus device of the plot.
It's kinda hammed up, and predictable so far, but well worth a watch. To this reviewer, it's nothing TOO new, and yet, I find myself wishing more than the first episode was available.
Edit: 2nd episode in, and it's not getting much better, but it's not getting any worse. We're introduced to a couple new characters, one of which is absolutely bonkers and has potential to go from interesting to fascinating REAL fast. The mannerisms of the characters are still odd, but, this is a show about a dude merging with an adorable chainsaw-demon, sooooooooo, yeah.
Edit: 3rd episode in. I find it fascinating that the main character's primary motivation is boobies. As a guy who went through puberty, I can relate. But also as a guy who loves kitties, this episode had me on edge the whole time. Gotta say, it's getting even better.
Further edit: 9 episodes in. There have been MANY surprises, both fun, horrifying, and shocking. The latest episode had several such moments. I LOVE the reveal of how powerful even a character with an incipiently minor and inferior role could be (see 17 and a half minutes into the 9th episode). I was like, "oh SH@#!!!!" Lots of crazy moments lately, my love for the show continues to grow.

I'm just sorry, but this anime is SO over hyped. Its actually insane! This anime is very mid, but because of the manga and boobs everyone just looses their mind watching this. I do like the monsters, but its extremely cringe. Even if it is "supposed to be". The character interactions are cringe. I don't understand why everyone loves these cringe characters so much. Some parts of this anime are LEGIT soft-core porn. That's probably why people love the characters so much. Or maybe because people can relate to this person. The dog was the most interesting character and you hardly get to see him. 6/10.
I came into this anime with high expectations, and I came out bored.
I'll start off with the main aspect of the show I enjoyed; the animation (especially in the fights). The characters look badass.
Sadly, the writing lets it down tremendously. The world itself is interesting, however it's never explored in any amount of detail. I wouldn't mind if it fully embraced its over-the-top nature like shows such as Kill La Kill do. Instead, the world feels like it's made up as the story goes along, and every new revelation comes off as an annoying asspull.
Same with the characters: you never feel any sort of connection to them. It seemed like we were supposed to care about lots of the characters, but it's hard to when they constantly get killed off before they can leave an impact on us. To me, it just seemed like the story was just rushing through a bunch of characters the author wanted to shock the audience over and over again. Shock value.

The pros heavily outbalance the cons in this show so far. Sound design is immaculate, from the chainsaw noise to Pochita's woof. Denji's voice actor is top notch, and Makima's is spot on. Mappa's CGI is still nowhere near Ufotables flawless blend of 2D and 3D, and the intro to Dennis' Chainsaw devil was a little slower than imagined, but well animated nonetheless, as the fine detail in the CGI work is better than Mappa has ever done before. The opening in gorgeous, but the song isn't quite the heavy metal banger fans were undoubtedly expecting, let alone a song with casual replay value. With the unique ending song announcement I was anticipating a unique closing animation as well but it was just scrolling text, so that was a bit dissapointing too. But the overall animation was gorgeous, as well as the pacing and direction being top notch, so I'm expecting a lot from the rest of the season!

The OST is really one of a kind and complements the show extremely well. The visuals in the opening contain many western film references that will be appreciated by some. The actual opening released by Kenshi Yonezu fully embraces the unpredictable and erratic nature of Denji. The soundtracks composed by Kensuke Ushio also play perfectly into the fight scenes. Additionally, the eeriness of some of the other tracks in his soundtrack leaves the audience unsettled and pushes them to think if there is more to the scenes than meets eye. The 12 different ending themes was an original idea that were delightful touches to end an episode off on. The abstract visuals in the endings were also solid inclusion that referenced what happened in the episode nicely.
Overall, Chainsaw Man impresses on so many levels I think it's safe to say it delivers on the hype it got. From its extraordinary characters to its technical brilliance, Chainsaw Man is really a cut above any recent shounen that's easily become one of my favorites. As someone who has recently read part 1 of the Chainsaw Man manga, I can definitively say this is only the beginning of something exceptional, and I'm really excited to see how they animate the upcoming arcs.

The animations were so freaking smooth.
It's like your watching a river flowing with such mesmerising tranquility. You did it again MAPPA!!!!!
You absolute genius.!!! It grabs your undivided attention from the first frames and make you keep watching untill the ending frame . The storyline is obviously amazing as well . The only thing wrong is having to wait 7 days to watch this beautiful art!!!.
MAPPA as always gave there all to this.
The voice artists are very versatile and qualified as well.
Of course!!!!. I want to to thank all those animators that worked so much to bring this story to us and hope they are paid there worth!!!.

I liked the scene where he said "It's chainsawin' time". Truly one of the shows of all time, way better than Demon Slayer, because there aren't any chainsaws that go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr in Demon Slayer so 0/10. I also liked when Walter Jr made breakfast for the 283926th time. The characters are written really well like Sasuke Yeager, the king of pirates and Goku Joestar. The animations were animated, the characters were there and Quentin Tarantino did a great job directing and writing this but unfortunately there wasn't any Morbius in this so I gotta give it 0/10. I hope Morbius, Danny Gonzalez, Drew Gooden and Kurtis Conner will all appear in the next episodes.

When i first get to know about this anime.i was very excited to watch this.all of character seemed very cool and dark.i was thinking about the mc alot. Like his powers are so cool.how he get this and what's his motivation.and how interesting his past gonna be.but tbh the main character really disappointed me maybe i was expecting more.his motivation is boobs.like seriously wtf.and all of the extra sexual things were very unnecessary.the mc is not cool.people hate grape(from mha) for being pervert but they are loving denji who's 5 times more pervert then grape.for me all of the sexual things were a big turn off.in every anime all of the mc have a really strong will and passion and some things which really make them the mc.but denji don't have any of this.all he cares about sexual things
I said a lot about what i didn't liked.now what i like the animation was cool.then without the mc other characters seemed cool and a past that motivates them.my fav character is Aki.he's amazing.everything about him is so cool.love him.he should have been the mc.he's 10/10.idk about makima.she's very mysterious.she gives a psycho killer vibe.and her powers dammmm.all of the demons were very creepy i love how dark vibe they give off.
I gave it 7.if there wasn't those unnecessary sexual things i would have rate it 10.whtvr hoping for best in future.

It's really weird overall. A main character who is entirely based on wanting to touch boobs? It was funny at first... but then they made it a whole thing, it got old pretty fast and eventually it just started to sound ridiculous. Especially when they try to make it sound normal and pull it out in what youd imagine to be a dramatic or emotional scene. "you saved me... after... i betrayed you... my breast is yours"... Could you be so detached from creativity? What are the writers scared of? Based on how the show started and the theme it was anticipated that it would be something realistic. I expected some relatability in terms of what drives a human being and how a person reasons. Why would she join the devil hunter association just to get her hands on one person? You can just get one in a dark alley.. youre a heartless demon remember? Also you feed a cat for months just to eat it? Are you a farmer? If i had the motivation i would write a whole list of reasons why the plot could use some real thoughts from a creative or self aware person. The whole script sounds like a first day therapy session transcript.... sustained by unfunny jokes and scared to go into anything serious.
This series is centred on Denji, a poverty stricken young man who, along with his chainsaw devil-dog Pochita, hunts devils for the Yakuza. Following a betrayal he is killed. That isn't the end for him though Pochita merges with him and he becomes a devil, in certain conditions his arms become chainsaws and another chainsaw emerges from his head! He is recruited to the government Devil Hunters. All this happens in the opening episode. His life is about to get a lot more interesting as he and his new partner face various devils.
I thought this was really solid. It doesn't waste much time setting up the basic premise and delivers lots of gory action in every episode. The characters are a lot of fun; I especially liked Denji's partner, Power. The story manages to include some amusing moments that contrast nicely with the violence. The character designs and backgrounds look pretty good. Overall I'd say this is definitely worth watching if you want gory devil-fighting action.
These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
