It has been a long time since I’ve reviewed a direct-to-market Steven Seagal movie, in fact its been some time since I’ve so much as watched one for my own “pleasure”. I skipped over Sniper: Special Ops, Asian Connection, Code of Honour, and the most recent Dtv release End of a Gun, maily because after buying, watching, and often reviewing, every single film starring Seagal until the aforementioned I was suffering from Seagal burnout… A condition that often comes about in an audience when they realise that the once-agile former martial arts superstar has succumbed to appearing in extended cameos in the hopes that long-suffering fans – like myself – will buy the film on his name...

Mercenary: Absolution is the latest direct to market offering from action superstar Steven Seagal and marks the sixth time Seagal has worked with director/producer Keoni Waxman, previous films including Force of Execution, A Dangerous Man as well as the fantastic Maximum Conviction. Waxman also helmed a number of episodes of Seagal’s TV show, True Justice (released here in the UK as a series of direct to DVD “movies” starting with Deadly Crossing).

When Den of Geek published our Top 25 must see movies of 2015, we placed the upcoming Steven Seagal movie Mercenary: Absolution in the top spot. I assume. I wasn’t involved in writing that one and didn’t actually get around to reading it. I heard it was good, though, and so naturally assume Seagal took the top spot.

It’s proved a canny prediction as the film delivers. Well, it has some flaws, but I think it’s alright. If you’re a fan of modern Steven Seagal movies then this is one of the better ones. If you’re not a fan of modern Seagal movies, this list is guaranteed to convert you. I’d stake the Den of Geek editorial team’s reputation on it.

"Schindler's List" already looked like an instant classic the moment it was released 20 years ago this week (on December 15, 1993). Ralph Fiennes could have been a diplomat in a previous life – the low, patrician voice, and the clothes. He is dressed on the morning we meet with an elegance that would not disgrace a Frenchman: neat cardigan, fresh shirt, polished boots. We are in Soho, in post-production offices – an editing suite like a gone-wrong sitting room, with a bank of computers at right angles to a sofa.

He is, by a month, on the youthful side of 50. And he has a smile of such disarming sweetness that the first impression is that something has gone bizarrely wrong. It is only retrospectively that the oddity makes sense: what he does best as an actor is torment.

Is there a greater film than "Lawrence of Arabia?" Perhaps. My Thoughts: A dangerous man is charged with taking care of children while on the run from his own past. Sounds eerily like The Pacifier, right? But no, it’s a “brand new” movie, just a recycled idea. The only problem is, it wasn’t that clever even when it was original.

To make matters worse (and call me skeptical if you must) but wrestlers in an acting capacity rarely make for a good time. What I think is most surprising is the number of reputable people involved in this movie. Just for starters, the ex-con’s daughter is played by Ariel Winter, who some may recognize from Modern Family. She’s on a hit TV show and her agent advised her to do this? Winter may be in need of some new representation…...

Steven Seagal has made some of my favorite movies of all time, like “Out for Justice”, “Hard to Kill”, “Above the Law”, “Under Siege”. He’s also made some unwatchable garbage, but that’s beside the point. His fight with Dan Inosanto in “Out for Justice” is on my short list of best fights ever. In honor of “Machete”, his first theatrically released movie in quite some time, I thought I would see what else he’s been up to and watch something recent. Even though his movies haven’t found their way to the local mega-plex, we all know that Seagal has been prolific in the direct-to-video market, knocking out three or four movies a year. And even though few people believe me, every third or fourth one of those is pretty good (“Urban Justice” and “Belly of the Beast” are prime examples). Steven Seagal has become best known for his roles in action movies displaying his black belt martial arts skills. His roles in “Under Siege” and “Under Siege 2″ garnered him a lot of attention and put him on the map. Recently he has been seen in the movies “Driven to Kill,” “A Dangerous Man,” and “Machete” due out later this year. Now he is being sued by his former personal assistant, Kayden Nguyen, for sexual harassment and illegal sex trafficking.

According to Radar Online, the lawsuit document says that he “treated Ms. Nguyen as his sex toy.” In addition the document claims that “Mr. Seagal has been keeping two young female Russian ‘Attendants’ on staff who were available for his sexual needs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

They also report that Nguyen was hired as an assistant to help him in Los Angeles and then later was flown...

Steven Seagal's new flick On the Run has been retitled A Dangerous Man, and to commemorate the change, we get a new trailer. The real-life lawman plays a killing machine who helps a girl who's gotten herself tangled up with drug dealers and/or senior members of the Chinese Army. I can't keep up with the plot of a Steven Seagal movie... I'm going to have to have someone push me into a saw now.

These days, it’s good to be a Steven Seagal fan. If A&E’s reality series “Steven Seagal: Lawman” isn’t enough to keep you fat and satisfied, you can currently find dozens of copies of the aikido wizard’s 2009 epic “The Keeper” on video store shelves across North America at this very moment. On the run to be the second highest grossing movie of all time, "Avatar" is coming to smaller screen via FX. The cable network has officially acquired the broadcasting right from sister company 20th Century Fox after winning the bid on Thursday, January 7.

No financial detail is released but according to Los Angeles Times, FX has to fork out around $25 million. Director James Cameron also reportedly has a say in determining which TV stations will get to broadcast its TV premiere. FX aims to air it mid 2012 and there is a possibility that it would be in 3D since the network has accumulated a plan to have a 3D viewing.

You know what I love about Steven Seagal?  I love that he - or someone close to him - thinks that wearing a do-rag will make him appear 'street' as opposed to 'silly', 'old' or 'fat'. I love that his next film after this one is one that he wrote himself and that he named his own character Handsome B. Wonderful. And I love that despite becoming a bizarre, puffy caricature of what he once was he can still star in a film called A Dangerous Man and sort of make you believe that he really is.  And you know what else I love?  The totally gratuitous, single frame nude shot included in the promo reel for said film to demonstrate that Seagal's still got that magnetic power over the ladies.
