Remember the days when buddy cop shows were the bread and butter of American television?
From Starsky & Hutch to Miami Vice, the genre gave us mismatched partners who bickered, bantered, and ultimately brought down the bad guys.
It was escapism at its finest — a world of fast cars, sharp one-liners, and explosive finales.
Starsky & Hutch (ABC/Screenshot)
But over the years, the buddy cop genre has faded from the U.S. small screen.
Don’t worry, though; it’s alive and well — it just packed its bags and went global.
A Brief History of Buddy Cop Glory
The buddy cop formula hit its stride in the 1980s and 1990s, an era when the appeal of Lethal Weapon and Beverly Hills Cop carried over from the big screen to TV.
Shows like Starsky & Hutch and Cagney & Lacey offered variations on the theme, combining humor, action, and, occasionally, a dash of drama.

NBC bought Bravo in 2002, making the small, arts-focused network its first entertainment cable network. Fast forward to 2025, and Bravo — a very different kind of channel than it was two decades ago — will soon be the company’s only cable outfit.
As Comcast spins off most of the NBCUniversal cable networks — USA, MSNBC, CNBC, E!, Oxygen, Syfy and Golf Channel — into a separate organization, it strikingly has decided to keep Bravo in the original company alongside NBC, Peacock and Telemundo.
Bravo isn’t NBCUniversal’s most-watched cabler — that would be MSNBC, whose shift to SpinCo raises a bunch of thorny issues, including potentially having to consider changing its name. It isn’t even NBCU’s top-rated entertainment cable channel, which is USA Network: Per Variety’s 2023 networks ranker, MSNBC averaged 1.22 million viewers last year, with USA at 688,000 and Bravo at 571,000.
So why Bravo? Quite simply, in a world of zombie cable networks,...

Television has continued to evolve for good, bad, and sometimes ugly.
We’ve lamented many things, from the obsession with prequels, sequels, reboots, and revivals to the departure from family-focused dramas and the obsession with procedurals.
But there’s one era of television we desperately miss and long for Blue Sky TV.
(Disney/Mitch Hasseth) The Tides are Finally Turning with a Shift Towards Lighter Series
There’s no nostalgia quite like the longing for USA Network and TNT’s staple Blue Sky series, from White Collar to Suits to Leverage.
And thankfully, in some capacity, networks and streamers have tried to capitalize off the massive success, popularity, and longing for those shows via the aforementioned reboots and revivals.

Unlike its rivals, NBCUniversal long ago developed a healthy fear of zombies.
Not the shambling, undead kind that lurch around trying to eat brains, but rather the media variety: “Undead” cable networks that long ago gave up all hopes of cultivating audiences around the clock and instead run only a few hours of original programming, coupled with seemingly endless repeats of TV favorites, like “Ridiculousness” (MTV); “Fear Factor” (Hln); or “Seinfeld” (Comedy Central).
Paramount Global and Warner Bros. Discovery, two of the bigger owners of these cable-network wraiths, haven’t had much to show for keeping them up and running. Indeed, Warner in August unveiled a massive $9.1 billion write-down of its TV assets, citing business headwinds as well as the projected loss of its lucrative agreement with the NBA to show games on its cable networks. Paramount Global followed suit, revealing a $5.98 billion impairment charge as it prepared for its acquisition by Skydance Media.

Mickey Haller is back in the courtroom for another season full of twists, turns, and dangerous situations from his latest case. In The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, Mickey's taking on the case of Julian La Cosse, who's accused of murdering Mickey's old friend Glory Days. It's his most personal case yet, but if anyone's up for the challenge, it's Mickey.
The Netflix original legal drama has grown into a fan-favorite, with each season tackling a winding mystery based on the books by Michael Connelly. The Lincoln Lawyer has a rather light and easy to watch quality, even with the intense theme of murder at the center of Mickey's cases. But how intense does the language and violence get this time around? Here's what to know before watching!

Fans are still in love with White Collar years later!
The USA Network series first premiered in October 2009 and ended in December 2018 after six seasons on the air.
White Collar centered on an ultra-suave con man (Matt Bomer) who, in order to avoid jail, signs on to help an FBI agent (Tim DeKay) catch other white-collar thieves — but he conceals an ulterior motive.
Also starring in the drama were the late Willie Garson, Tiffani Thiessen, Marsha Thomason, Sharif Atkins, Hilarie Burton and Natalie Morales.
The show got a second life when it hit Netflix, and it’s also available to stream on Hulu. If you didn’t know, there’s also a reboot in the works and new details were recently revealed!
Even though it’s been years since the show was originally on the air, it still maintains a near perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, where it has a 96% Tomatometer score from critics,...

The stars of White Collar are just as excited about a potential revival as fans are. Over the past year, there has been talk of the possibility, with creator Jeff Eastin providing an update earlier this month about positive feedback from the studio on the script. He included, on social media, a look at the front page of the script revealing the title White Collar Renaissance. And so when TV Insider caught up with Sharif Atkins (who played FBI Special Agent Clinton Jones) for an upcoming Chicago Med guest spot, we had to ask him what he could share. “Absolutely nothing except that I’d be massively excited. We keep in touch a little bit here and there, and it would be a lot of fun to revisit that world, White Collar, White Collar Renaissance, as I have heard it would be called,” Atkins said. Chucky’s murderous days are over — at least for now. The series, based on the classic horror movie franchise, will not return for a fourth season on Syfy and USA Network. The news comes four months after Part 2 of Chucky‘s third season aired its finale on both NBCUniversal cable networks.
Series creator/executive producer Don Mancini had been looking to carry on. He revealed in April that he had pitched a fourth season, saying at the time that “it’s something I really like to do.” His enthusiasm helped spring the #RenewChucky fan campaign, which has been rallying support for Season 4.
Needless to say, today’s outcome is not what he had hoped for, but Mancini, who also created and wrote movie franchise, remained graceful in his reaction, vowing that this is not Chucky’s last spree.

One Tree Hill helped launch the careers of Chad Michael Murray, Hilarie Burton Morgan, Sophia Bush, James Lafferty, and Bethany Joy Lenz, and they're all still beloved today.

Suits is one of the best and most popular legal dramas that managed to make the profession of lawyer cool again. Created by Aaron Korsh, the USA Network series follows Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), who has a photographic memory and joins Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) at a prestigious law firm. The only problem with that is Mike didn’t actually go to law school and he doesn’t have a degree about which he has to lie to everyone. Suits ran for 9 brilliant seasons and ended its run in 2019. So, if you loved the witty banter, high stakes, and compelling characters in Suits here are some similar brilliant shows you should check out next.

From the snowy roads of Minnesota to the sun-baked beaches of Italy, this year’s Emmy nominees for Best Lead Actor in a Limited Series certainly span the globe. But of course, only one of them can take home the trophy.
The five nominees in this category include a few familiar faces to TV fans, led by Jon Hamm, who won an Emmy for playing Mad Men’s Don Draper and is back here as swaggering sheriff Roy Tillman in FX’s Fargo. (He’s also nominated this year for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama, for The Morning Show.

Ever since that wild scene with Lady Gaga, one DC star has never looked at acting the same way. Imagine being wrapped up like sardines in a tarp, thrust into a brutally perverse, bloody orgy—definitely not your typical day on set! This bizarre experience, straight out of the twisted world of American Horror Story, left him shaken, questioning reality and his own sanity.

When you’re sharing the screen with Lady Gaga, things are bound to get weird, but this took ‘wild experience’ to a whole new level. Far from the superhero antics of the DC universe, this moment was a dark dive into the surreal, and it’s one that’s likely to haunt him for years to come.

Actor and executive producer Matt Bomer has earned his second Emmy nomination, this time for his role as the lovelorn State Department official Hawk Fuller on Showtime’s Fellow Travelers.
Created by Ron Nyswaner, based on Thomas Mallon’s novel, Fellow Travelers is a love story and political thriller, chronicling the clandestine romance of two very different men who meet in the shadow of McCarthy-era Washington. Bomer plays Fuller, a man with a successful career in politics who generally avoids emotional entanglements — until he meets the idealistic Tim Laughlin (Jonathan Bailey). The two begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants,” initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th-century American history. Over the course of four decades, we follow the pair as they cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s...

There's something magical about "Blue Sky" television.
The stakes were high, but the love and appreciation for character-driven stories were even higher.
Inarguably, USA Network gave us one of the best eras of television, and it is now leaving us nostalgic and longing for a repeat.
Chasing After Nostalgia: Blue Sky Appeal is Undeniable
Is there a yearning for "Blue Sky" shows? Resoundingly, yes!
If it wasn't already evident that people still long for this particular television format years later, we needn't look further than the Suits Renaissance on Netflix.
Related: Suits: LA Spinoff: Everything We Know So Far
Suits has garnered such massive appeal so many years after it signed off that it's become a pop-culture juggernaut.
White Collar joins the ranks of finding a whole new audience delighting in Neal and Peter's shenanigans on multiple streaming platforms.
Although, it's Netflix specifically that garners the best results and most impactful reach.

Rest easy, Resident Alien fans. The show has officially been renewed for a fourth season!
It was a close call at NBCU about the show's future, so this is excellent news.
The big difference is that the show will no longer air on Syfy but on the sister NBCU site, USA Network.
We all wish USA's Blue Sky programming were still going today.
They've been out of scripted originals for a couple of years, but with the announcement of The Rainmaker last month, they're back in business.

At the time, they also said there would be a significant budget reduction, so when we return, things may not be the same in Patience, Colorado.

USA Network is reentering the scripted originals space.
The NBCUniversal-owned basic cable network has handed out a straight-to-series order for a reboot of The Rainmaker, from producers Lionsgate TV and Blumhouse TV, marking its first non-shared scripted series since 2020.
The cabler, which saw its former hits Suits and White Collar pop on Netflix, currently shares linear rights with corporate sibling Syfy to Chucky as its lone scripted series. The drama is the only scripted original to air on the network that previously ranked as the most watched cable network for a dozen years straight.

Former USA Network drama “White Collar” was a basic-cable relic before it was added to the Netflix library on April 1, 2024. But like “Suits” before it, another USA drama that found new life when it wound up on Netflix, “White Collar” has since turned up on Nielsen’s Top 10 Streaming Overall (original and acquired series) list — twice.
“White Collar,” a Fox-produced show, has been on Hulu (because Disney’s Fox acquisition closed in 2019) since December 2018. But until Netflix nabbed the co-exclusive rights this spring, the series had never been a factor in streaming. The show, which ran from 2009-2014 on USA Network, was pretty much an afterthought. Just like “Suits.”
But now, like “Suits,” “White Collar” is getting a sequel series.

The cast of Will Trent has worked hard solving cases and bettering themselves, and the title character, Will Trent, had a rough year.
The main cast has remained mostly the same since the procedural began in January 2023.
