Like all GTA protagonists, Johnny is an anti-hero. Johnny is an outlaw biker, loyal to his club, his friends and family. But he's also a thief and a killer.

There are certainly some similarities. An outlaw MC, where the main character is the Vice President, at odds with the president. However SoA, premiered in 2008, the same year Grand Theft Auto IV released. Lost and Damned released in 2009, but given the development time of video games, it was likely well in production before Sons of Anarchy ever aired.

Yes, when playing as Niko you first meet Johnny after they are both entrusted to watch over a heroin deal for Elizabeta and Playboy X. The deal turns out to be an LCPD sting, and Johnny disappears during the ensuing gunfight. He later reappears to assist Niko with a Conflict diamonds deal with Isaac Roth, on behalf of Ray Boccino. The deal is ambushed by members of the Ancelotti crime family, and Johnny escapes with two million dollars in cash.

From IV:

General:

• Most Wanted, Vigilante or selling vehicles. Instead there is money to be gained and firefights to be experienced from Gang Wars events which can be replayed.

Services:

• Loyal taxi (like Roman Bellic's). The regular taxi is still available.

• Car bomb (like Packie McReary's friendship benefit).

• Helicopter transport (like Brucie Kibbutz's friendship benefit).

• Health boost (like Carmen Ortiz's friendship benefit).

• Wanted level removal (like Kiki Jenkins' or Francis McReary's). Interestingly wanted levels never rise above two stars during Gang Wars missions.

• Race request. Instead at least one at a time of replayable motocycle races can be started at will by the protagonist visiting sites that are indexed with icons on the map when not on a mission.

Activities:

• Automobile Race. Instead there are Hi-Lo, Arm Wrestling, Air Hockey and motorcycle Race but not only those as bowling, darts and 8-ball return from IV. (However, the icon for bowling does not appear on the map, and the protagonist cannot play it with his friends.)

• Stand-up comedy or Cabaret acts.
