As this review's headline says, "Amazon Queen" is somewhat in between. I'm not saying it's bad but I don't feel like it's a good film either. I like the plot and Amazon, Brazil scenes. But poor acting though. I feel like I'm watching an opera. Other than that, it's kind of good. It's kind of worth to watch it for first time.
P. S. This is the second film I've watched that has people wearing masks in the film. Does it really need to include COVID-19 situations (such as news and wearing masks and all)?

I saw this film as part of the Las Vegas International Film and Screenwriting Festival, and found it to be a nice addition to the mix of films, especially since it was a more commercial premise and had what may be the best cinematography and location photography I've ever seen from an independent film. This genuinely raises the quality of the film, as it is such a big part of the whole thing.
One problem, as other reviews note, is the acting. It's very wooden, and I also think the film could have benefitted from "feeling" more like a film. I can't put my finger on it, but it felt like a nature show or a PBS show, mixed with a Lifetime or basic cable thriller, not a cinematic film. It could also be the overall mood of the film? I love movies, but, unfortunately I don't know enough to make a specific suggestion with one viewing.

You know when you are watching something that is done on a shoestring, the only way the makers can.
Rate it how you want, but why with such venom?
I love reading the critical analysis of some of these snobs.
I bet many of them haven't dared take that step, to try and produce something from somewhere within them, and then put it on view for the world to see.
That takes guts alone.. Why such venom, for anything> Hahaha It it was by Hitchcock or Speilberg, then okay. But these people tried to do something.
Not sat behind their screens thinking..... hmmm, I have nothing else to do in my life now, I can't move on until I have vented, hahah It wasn't great, but jeez, hahaha Maybe take up a drug addiction and fill that void in your soul.

This movie looks like the producers rented a boat, employed inexperienced actors and let them enjoy themselves while loosely following some sort of script. Amazon River shots are amazing (they're difficult to spoil), and there are some great wildlife shots as well, but other than that it's not really interesting to watch. Acting is not good, action is slow. The hostage situation mentioned in the storyline takes place at about 2/3 of the movie. They didn't even bother to put in some digital blood and bullet marks when someone gets shot.
Its true, its not a good film, but from a technical standpoint, its deserves the three stars. The camera work is good and there are some beautiful shots taken by someone who knows what they are doing.
The script is ridiculous, 'some' of the acting is worse than barnyard productions I've seen and the screenplay isn't worthy of the disk space it took to store it. The score is terrible and overdone throughout the whole film and the direction is... I'll not go on, you get the idea.
It's definitely not worth seeing, though as background fodder, it might be something to put on while you do your chores, your taxes or just need something to lull you to sleep.
Its Hallmark channel worthy, and though the high ratings are clearly bogus, I think the one-out-of-ten scores are probably harshly trying to serve up some sort of punishment rather than reflect an accurate assessment.
I cannot recommend it.

It's a C or D movie so don't expect too much. Some talented performers and creatives have played part in making this film, but it's seriously worsened by a majority of less talented/experienced people.
Acting is pretty terrible (D) Cinematography is quite amazing (B) Plot works, just (B) Music sounds like a midday soapy (F) Directing is scattish at best (C) Underlying Message is pretty good.
All in all. If you have nothing better to do, go for it..

I took a chance and decided to watch this movie last night. It's not a typical Hollywood movie, but it's an independent movie but well worth the time to watch. I've been to the Amazon and this movie took transported me there again. I liked the story and how the plot moved progressed from a tourist cruise to a hostage situation. Will recommend to other travelers that enjoy movies set in distant lands.

All the 9 and 10 star rating are fake.
I am honestly so shocked at how bad this movie was, that I won't even bother explaining it. Story was horrible, acting was horrible, effects were horrible, and the list goes on.
Anyone who gives this movie over a 1 or 2 was either a part of the movie, related to someone in the movie, or paid to rate it highly. Period.
This is a typical f-rated movie. The best way to watch is with the sound off while wearing a blind fold.

Really enjoyed this movie. My husband and I had a date night with popcorn and really enjoyed the beautiful scenery and suspense! Highly recommend this film.

Read a little about it and decided to check it out. Made it into the first 40 minutes and bailed.
All style zero substance. And by style I mean "oh look a monkey!" to help distract from a terribly written and even worse execution. The acting is about as wooden as can be. The melodramatic cheesiness is almost too overwhelming...Think soap opera look, feel and writing, maybe a tad worse? How this ever got greenlit makes you wonder.
Think.

Someone is trying to bomb the ratings for this movie! Why?
This is a beautiful piece of cinematography with breathtaking shots of the Amazon. This is a low-budget independent film and though it is not perfect, it certainly warrants more than 1 star. You will see the negative reviews all came at the same time so someone has an agenda and is doing their best to damage the overall rating. Shame.

Beautiful shots and scenery actually filmed in the Amazon with a bit of adventure, drama, romance, and humor. The effort by the cast and crew to travel to film this in the Amazon during COVID is commendable. Highly recommend this for all audiences.
Very poor movie, not bad enough to be funny. Terrible script & acting. I didn't enjoy this film at all and it seemed to have a poor plot and was thoroughly uninteresting. Really bad but not best of the worst bad.

It is actually amazing how bad the acting was. The plot was preposterous. The pacing was slow death. Anyone who gives this more than 2 stars is either lying, paid, or hasn't seen a movie since 1958.

Watched this because it had a 5.5 IMDB rating and was "Next up for you" on Amazon Prime. Acting is stilted, movie is slow. The filming does not seem natural. Weak storyline. Only good thing is the jungle scenery.
Look and see how many end in dash 5 numbers, and see how many have the same name like michaelmMcConnell. See how many are ten of ten starting with the word brazil. This movie is no African Queen, this movie has very bright colors, shot on good locations, but it is shot in the way many low budget movies look.
There are many great efforts here, but please know this lacks the flow and skill of many great cinematic quests.
It should not be artificially pushed up near a 6, when a 4 average would be fair, or below 5 at least.
I'm sorry to be critical without being able to do better myself.

If you are looking for a movie to watch with your family?
I believe Amazon Queen is a great choice!
The movie starts slow and really gets better as it gets closer to the end.
I really enjoyed all the jungle images, it's a great way to show your family about the natural life in the Amazon forest. Some great images of real animals, not computerized. Really fun!

And everythings for free, so lets go hire a boat on the amazonas and shoot the movie weve always wanted to make, and of they went, family and frinds, making the screenplay at the airport, bought a camera or two at the tax free and so goes the fairytail.... just a possible scenario of the origins of this production...
which stinks to such a degree that its only watchable a double or triple speed , and make a benny hill like show outta it. Plot is stupid, acting is amateuristic stumbling, and the main set production are what you may expect in a narrow space, cause its done the difficult way on board a ship. There are only one area of the moviemaking that i can acclaim and that is the beutiful sceneries of nature shot with high quality drones that make the background frame of this production. Actually well filmed and well chosen takes that theyve mingled with the poo-rest.
So a two minus for this amazonian jungle cruise comes from the grumpy old man. I think if i had the doe and the guts i couldve made a sequel with a far better story and plot, including some piranhas and barracudas using crooks for bait, so its a no recommend whatsoever.

I've been to the Amazon and this movie felt real and true to what you actually see down there. Loved the scenes of the market, the river, the jungle, and the animals. Give this movie a look. I recommend it.

This movie has only the bare bones of a plot, some bad to mediocre acting, and one of the worst fights I've ever seen between the bad guy and the good guy - couldn't decide who was worse. Almost, but not quite, comical.
I did like the cinematography, and the mini-tour of the Amazon. The footage worth seeing was about 10-15 minutes of the movie. If they could have just released this part as a kind of travel documentary, it would have been more satisfying.
You can miss this movie, and spend your valuable time watching a much better one.

Well acted, scripted and filmed. Fast paced adventure films for all ages. I thought the relationships in the movie were very moving. Hey man; good flick.

Full disclosure: I really don't watch many movies and and know Nick Thomas some from advocacy work we've done. I actually only watched Amazon Queen because I like Nick and was curious about (1) how good it would be, (2) why it was nominated for awards, and (3) why there was also a sudden influx of 1-star reviews.
The movie takes a while to get going and, quite honestly, the beginning was laughably cheesy. I stuck with it, though (unlike a lot of the 1-star reviewers) because I appreciate Nick and paid $5 to rent it. About 1/3 of the way through, I'm thinking "meh. I'll watch but not write a review."
That plan started to change about halfway through, and the thing actually gets good. Like good enough that, for the last third, I was able to forget I was watching Nick and his friends and really focus on the movie.
I'm ADHD as all get-out and the plot held my attention, although mainly after the first third and especially for the last half. The scenery was amazing and there were some cool camera angles.
My rating is 7 out of 10 because the first third would have to be a 2, really getting anything only for the scenery and the plot. The second half of the film gets its full half of my 10 stars.

It was sheer torture watching it for 50 minutes.... Imbd, please allow negative ratings!! -2 for this one
I would not be surprised if the wildlife and scenery shots were inserts from a National Geographic doc...
Don't watch it. It is clearly made during a pandemic with a producer/director who doesn't know how to write a cohesive storyline, can't direct wannabe "actors" - they really are a discredit to those who have given their lives to work tirelessly to be in film/tv, and just so much more. I mean, even "the room" was better than this. Like, wash your dishes, clean your house, or offer to work an extra shift/more work rather than watch this movie, should you be that bored with your life.

The scenery was worthwhile, but couldn't carry the film. Nice little ship. A river tour on it might be an interesting voyage, espicially on the Amazon. The indigenous performers were the highlight. We don't often get to see scenes like that these days.
