WB Officially Pulls the Plug on Live-Action Ben 10 Movie - Main Image
Every few decades are defined by certain pop-culture iconcs; the ‘80s had characters like He-Man and the Ghostbusters, the ‘90s paved the way for the animated X-Men, and the early ‘00s had none other than Ben Tennyson from the hit series Ben 10.
News of a live-action Ben 10 had been around for a while now, but too bad for anyone looking forward to it, because it seems like that project is officially dead.

It was reported way back in 2011 that a live-action Ben 10 was in the works with producer Joel Silver, but ever since that announcement, there have been several Ben 10 animated series, but no news on the live-action front.

Diversity is kind of a hot topic nowadays. As citizens of a melting pot of a culture, it’s nice to be represented in mainstream entertainment. And if we’re being honest, it’s not just about diversity, but authenticity. It always rings a bit false when you have a white person portraying a person of color. It’s especially easy to get away with this in animation, where you don’t even see the voice actors.
Studios have gotten away with this practice for years, but in today’s world, they’re making a conscious effort to create films that respect the culture it’s portraying, and part of that has to do with the voice cast. This newer approach is expanding to Coco, the latest film from Pixar inspired by Día de Muertos, a celebration of the dearly departed.

Back in April, we brought you the news when Keanu Reeves (47 Ronin) spoke about the third Bill & Ted installment, revealing that the project was not only in motion but, the writers were just weeks away from turning in a draft of the script that will follow 1989′s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and 1991′s Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey.
Reeves said,
“I believe the writers are six weeks away from a draft. No pressure, guys! When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn’t happened. So they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back.”
Now, while speaking with the UK’s Independent, Mr. Reeves offered the following update:

If past years are any indication, Comic-Con will begin releasing its official 2011 panel schedule later today (Wednesday) with the schedule for Preview Night, Wednesday, July 20. If that happens then we can expect them to follow suit for the rest of the days, so that Thursday will see the release of the Thursday of Con schedule, etc., through Sunday.
Once the official schedules are posted these “TV and Movie Panels and Screenings Updates” will be scaled back to just the date, time, title, and location, since the rest of the information and So Much More (including comics panels, autograph signings, etc.) will be available on the Comic-Con schedule link we’ll provide. Consider this, then, the last of the extremely long posts, and hopefully we’ll be getting that official schedule soon.
Hmm, here’s an interesting matchup: Glee will be in Hall H on Sunday at 10:00; Supernatural will be...

The second update but absolutely not the last. We have yet to hear from the major networks, Syfy, TNT or USA about their panels. More to the point, we have yet to hear from Comic-Con, at least as to the official schedule.
As you may know, they resold the returned 4-day passes on Friday, and those sold out within a couple of hours. It likely only took that long because only a certain number of people could be purchasing at one time. Returned one day tickets will go on sale shortly; if you’re interested in attempting to be amongst the lucky few who will achieve tickets, you must be following Comic-Con on Twitter for the latest updates
Information added to this update includes Locke & Key, Dexter, Shameless, Homeland, Archer, Wilfred, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Sons of Anarchy, Shark Night 3D, Haywire, The Raven, Immortals, Thanks to THR...

Woo Hoo! Comic-Con 2011 info is really starting to flow! As a veteran attendee, one of the most exciting things I’ve seen are the blurbs that come out on the official schedule, being released early by studios! For this post we scrapped the previous format in favor of Comic-Con’s format whenever that information is available. Here we go!

Obvious picks were Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, And Avatar. Once again, no love for Nine, but I was pleased to see an embrace from this guild for The Lovely Bones. Now that Art Directors, Producers, Directors, and Screen Actors guilds have announced their nominees, the only other “countries” to be heard from are the Writers Guild and American Cinema Editors. We’ll hear from the WGA on Monday and the Ace on Tuesday.

The lush and iridescent forests of "Avatar," the sooty Victorian London of "Sherlock Holmes" and even the trashed, morning-after Vegas suites of "The Hangover" all caught the collective eye of the Art Directors Guild, which announced its nominations Friday.
The Adg, which will hold its 14th annual Excellence in Production Design Awards on Feb. 13 at the Beverly Hills Hotel, unveiled noms in nine categories, covering movies, TV, commercials and music videos.
In the category of fantasy film, "Avatar" will do battle with two other sci-fi titles -- "District 9" and "Star Trek" -- as well as the book adaptations "Harry Potter & the Half-Blood Prince" and "Where the Wild Things Are."
The nominees for period film range from "Sherlock Holmes," set in the 19th century, to the Depression-era America of "Public Enemies" to the World War II France of "Inglourious Basterds" as well as the post-war France of "Julie & Julia" and...

One remake we're looking forward to that has a really good chance of being good is Alex Winter's redux of The Gate in 3D. If Winter can capture just a fraction of the original film's charm then we're pretty damned golden. Some concept art snuck online today along with a boat load of details about the film.
Winter will be working from a script penned by himself and Kerric Macdonald. Charlotte Huggins (Journey to the Center of the Earth) and Andras Hamori are producing. The legendary H.R. Giger will be designing the creatures
Synopsis
When best friends Miles and Terry discover a mysterious crystalline rock in Miles's back yard, they quickly dig up the lawn in search of more. Instead, they unearth the Gate—the opening to an underground chamber containing terrifying evil.
The teenagers soon realize the horror they have unleashed, as one dire event follows another. With supernatural fiends invading suburbia,...

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.
It's funny how there are some weeks where there's 20 or so different DVD sets released but I won't see any sets that I want. And then there are weeks like this when there are only a handful of DVDs being released but I somehow want two or three of them.
The new Mystery Science Theater 3000 set (with The Corpse Vanishes, Warrior of the Lost World, Night of the Blood Beast, Santa Claus, two shorts, four lobby cards, and a collectible Tom Servo figurine) is a definite, and I might get Better Off Ted too, though I want to watch a few more episodes before I make up my mind.

As we all, know, there were plenty of 80’s and 90’s film heroes. From Indiana Jones to Marty McFly to Howard the Duck, there was definitely no shortage of strong protagonists for that decade. Which is why it was nice to get two reluctant heroes that really had no idea what was going on, in the forms of Theodore “Ted” Logan and William S. ‘Bill” Preston Esquire.
The two Bill & Ted films not only spoke to a generation, but were also pretty coherent time travel stories. Since 1991’s Bogus Journey, the dynamic duo made a split, Keanu going off to star in a few small films about a computer program, and Alex Winter switching roles to behind the camera, directing such projects as 1993’s Freaked and becoming the go-to director for the Ben 10 live action films.

There seems to be a plethora of animated shows taking off these days, with Warner Bros., Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon filling up just about every kid’s TiVo across the country. We are definitely not in an era of Saturday morning cartoons anymore, but a Monday-Friday one. With that comes some pretty great live action adaptations of animated properties as well.
One of the more popular franchises in this realm is the Ben 10 series. Starting in 2005, the franchise has spawned two separate animated spin-offs, and now two live-action TV films, with the second being Ben 10: Alien Swarm, set to air on Cartoon Network on November 25th.
We got a chance to speak with Ryan Kelley, who plays Ben, the title character in the movie. He gave us an inside peek at his character, as well as his work with Sigourney Weaver on the Emmy-Nominated TV film, Prayers for Bobby.

Its no secret that Cartoon Network and Adult Swim feature some of the funniest and most innovative shows around. With programming like Robot Chicken and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, they really show their true creative abilities and, in the case of Robot Chicken in particular, often makes us laugh our butts off.
Because we’re such fans of Cartoon Network and Adult Swim here at The Flickcast, we’re particularly excited to see what they have in store for Comic-Con. Cartoon Network is growing up... or trying to. And in the process, they're getting away from the things that make them, well, a cartoon network.
That's the theme that seems to be running through their upfront presentation for the 2009-2010 season. Highlights include entering into the reality TV genre, creating a new sports-centric programming block, and introducing 19 new programs, pilots, and movies, including six that are live-action (umm...) as well as 164 episodes of returning series. In doing so, Cartoon Network stepped out on its evolutionary path to become what it described as a "dominant youth culture brand," that not only understands boys, including boys 6-11, but girls and older kids too, while creating "un-sanitized" "TV for kids, not kids TV".
Luckily, no one seems to talking about renaming it "CyFy". Yet.
