Baptista has two daughters: the shrewish Kate and the beautiful Bianca. He has said he will not allow Bianca to marry until Kate is off his hands. Over the course of the play we see two very different relationships emerge, one a classic Shakespeare comedy, one a darker story of control and social isolation. In these times this comedy is as relevant, funny, and confronting as ever.
