There's really nothing innovative here...just the standard romcom plot with the usual theme of two very different people becoming romantically entangled ( in this case we have the "nonromantic marriage leading to true love" trope). However, it's all in the execution. And this particular series has selected one of the most endearing actresses I've seen anywhere to play the female lead. Yun Shu is pretty, kind and a real bubble head but so sweet you forgive her occasional goofiness (and she looks so cute in bunny pajamas!). This series works in great part because of her character. The male lead is a stoic, reserved professor of statistics whose desire to grant his dying grandfather's last wish sets the plot in motion. Wisely, the plot moves forward smoothly and even logically. There aren't too many silly misunderstandings and reactions to conflicts actually seem based in reality. Watching Yun Shu and Zhang fall in love and work out their differences and still remain likable people as well as a believable couple is one of the delights of this series. The secondary and tertiary couples (as in so many cases) are simply not as compelling. You can skip over their romances without losing much.
