As part of the documentary's efforts to mobilize people, a screen at the end of the broadcast encouraged residents of De Pijp to come to the community center right away, or call its phone number. Nearly 100 locals turned up for the discussion, but the meeting had to be adjourned, because of irreconcilable differences of opinion. [Reported by newspapers Het Parool and De Tijd]
The documentary alludes to how a conflict erupted between two groups of community activists, when the manifestation "Pijp in - Pijp uit" was announced at the old RAI Convention Center. A group of moderate reformers advocated the event to highlight the plight of De Pijp district, but also to present and discuss solutions, and showcase the neighborhood's strengths. It was budgeted at 50,000 guilders, 20,000 of which was contributed by the municipality, 10,000 by the Heineken brewery, and 5,000 by the AMRO bank, the HEMA department store and some other companies. However, another group of radical left-wing activists believed that such a large sum should be spent on urgent renovation projects, and that commercial sponsoring was a bad idea in the first place. The event was held at the RAI on April 20-23, 1972 [based on reports in newspaper Het Parool, and Jan Schaefer biography].
