Jamie Foxx might not be gracing any red carpets at the moment, but he’s still on everyone’s mind. Et’s Kevin Frazier spoke with Foxx’s co-star, Porscha Coleman, at the 2023 BET Awards, where she shared a hopeful update on the 55-year-old’s hospitalization in Atlanta, Georgia.
“I’ve talked to people very close to Foxx, [he] is doing well. I hate that the media outlets kept running with the narrative of what was going on without having the proper information,” she says, referring to public speculation on Foxx’s condition after the Oscar winner’s hospitalization for an undisclosed medical condition was first announced on April 12.
Earlier this month, a rep for the actor told Et that claims made on Dr. Drew Pinsky’s online show that Foxx was hospitalized after he was seriously injured by a Covid vaccine are “completely inaccurate.”

Domhnall Gleeson channels Hannibal Lecter in the first trailer for “The Patient,” the upcoming FX limited series co-starring Steve Carell.
Created by Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg, who previously worked together on the acclaimed FX drama “The Americans,” “The Patient” focuses on the relationship between Alexander Strauss (Carell), a well-regarded psychotherapist, and his new patient Sam Fortner (Gleeson). When Sam takes Strauss hostage, he reveals himself to be a serial killer, and asks the doctor to cure him of his murderous tendencies. As Strauss reluctantly begins treatment, the experience unearths demons and traumas of his own, blurring the line between the patient and therapist. The trailer begins with a normal therapy session between the two before fast-forwarding to the hostage situation, with Strauss trapped via chain in Sam’s house.
“Successful therapy requires a safe environment, without anything like fear hanging over every session,” Carell says in the trailer.

Netflix has done it again! After just one season, it canceled the international drama Hit & Run, from the team behind Fauda and starring Lior Raz and Sanaa Lathan. This comes after a big summer of cancellations for the streamer, which saw freshman series like The Crew, Country Comfort, The Irregulars, Jupiter’s Legacy, Grand Army, and Dad Stop Embarrassing Me all axed. The Netflix turnover has some viewers streaming mad. “Man, Netflix makes these great shows and cancels them after one season,” one tweeted. “It’s absolutely annoying.” Another Twitter user wrote, “Netflix needs to stop making shows that it never promotes and then cancels after one season because it got no exposure… Getting me emotionally invested in canceled shows and for what.” The Powers That Be at Netflix are aware of the criticism. Speaking at last November’s Paley International Council Summit with Netflix global TV head Bela Bajaria,...

Netflix is canceling another original series.
Per Deadline, the streamer has canceled Hit & Run after a single season.
In this action thriller," a happily married man’s life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a mysterious hit and run accident in Tel Aviv," reads the logline.
"Grief-stricken and confused, he searches for his wife’s killers, who have fled to the U.S."
"With the help of an ex-lover, he uncovers disturbing truths about his beloved wife and the secrets she kept from him."
The cast included Lior Raz, Sanaa Lathan, Kaelen Ohm, Moran Rosenblatt, Gal Toren, Lior Ashkenazi, and Gregg Henry.
The series launched in early August with a nine-part season.
The streamer has not revealed viewership metrics to date, but it is thought the series failed to garner traction on par with the other new original series this season.

Kenya Barris wasn’t the first high-profile showrunner to strike up a multimillion dollar deal with Netflix (he joined the likes of Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy), but he was the first notable creator to walk away. News broke last October that Barris was looking for an exit from his reported $100 million deal with Netflix. A new cover story for The Hollywood Reporter confirms Barris got out of the deal in January. The showrunner also spoke about his Netflix departure for the first time in detail. According to THR, Barris’ “Netflix marriage had been imperfect” because he “wasn’t willing to be the broadly commercial producer that the streamer wanted him to be, and Netflix wasn’t interested in being the edgy home that Barris craved.”
“I want to do in-your-face shit,” Barris said, explaining the content Netflix didn’t let him create and teasing what will come next as...

Television series’ depictions of single parents isn’t all that different from what viewers imagine, or have experienced, it to be. Struggling adults attempting to juggle a stable career while doubling as the book report editor, dinner maker and support system that their kids need isn’t exactly new. But the twist now is that scripted programming is putting the spotlight on single dads.
Comedies ranging from NBC’s “Mr. Mayor” and “Kenan,” to CBS’ “United States of Al” and “B Positive,” to Netflix’s “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!” have lead characters who are single dads — albeit ones who maybe get by thanks to their entourages of quirky friends, relatives or coworkers.
“I personally like shows, even in comedies, that still feel like they’re about something,” says “Kenan” co-creator Jackie Clarke, who, like the daughters of lead Kenan Thompson’s similarly-named character on her show, spent part of her...

It takes a minute to adjust to the reality of “The Upshaws.” At first glance, the new Netflix comedy appears to look and sound like a multitude of other multi-cam sitcoms about families that crack corny jokes and give each other loving grief. There are plenty of the same strewn about Netflix, from “Fuller House” to Jamie Foxx’s latest slapstick entry, “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!” But “The Upshaws,” created by Regina Hicks and Wanda Sykes, finds a way to even slightly twist the formula perfected by broadcast networks. Like the late “One Day at a Time” reboot before it, , albeit one that should resonate with plenty of people who may not have been able to say the same previously.
The family at the heart of “The Upshaws” hinges on Bennie (executive producer Mike Epps), but not because he’s so reliable. By deliberate contrast, Bennie’s a layabout car...

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings assures people that the streaming platform is not cracking down on password sharing.
“Netflix wants you to relax: It’s not preparing a widescale crackdown on password sharing. Fears of crackdown came up last month when at least a few users encountered a new security measure that can block access to a Netflix account if you don’t live in the same household as the actual account holder.”

The new Netflix comedy Dad Stop Embarassing Me! is Jamie Foxx's latest collaboration with his daughter, Corrine. Produced by the father-daughter duo, the sitcom is loosely based on situations from their real relationship. In public, though, Foxx seems like the furthest thing from an embarrassing dad! From the time she was a kid, he's brought Corrine with him to all sorts of red carpet events, and now, they're always sharing funny, adorable clips of them working together and just hanging out. It's absolutely family goals!

Netflix’s new sitcom “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me” stars Jamie Foxx in a story that’s loosely inspired by his relationship with his real-life daughter Corinne Foxx during her teenage years. And while the 27-year-old actress isn’t the one going toe to toe with her dad on screen, she is the one calling many of the shots behind the camera as a writer and executive producer on the comedy.
“I’ve been working with my dad for a while now, we obviously did ‘Beat Shazam’ together and we work on a lot of creative projects together. But this was definitely a different role for me because I wasn’t on the other side of the camera with him. I was behind the camera and actually kind of became his boss,” Corinne Foxx told TheWrap. “I am an EP on the show and I also wrote a few of the episodes.

The new Netflix comedy, starring and executive produced by TV veteran Jamie Foxx, follows single Atlanta entrepreneur Brian (Foxx) who suddenly has to father his teenage daughter Sasha (Kyla-Drew) after her mother’s untimely death, much to their mutual wariness. Brian’s eagerness embarrasses Sasha, Sasha’s stubbornness frustrates Brian; rinse, wash, repeat. Despite some strategic TikTok references and every episode title taking the form of a hashtag, there’s not much about “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!” that anchors it to 2021 beyond the fact that it is executive produced by Foxx and his real-life daughter, Corinne Foxx.
In the long tradition of sitcoms about chaotic people randomly inheriting children, Brian’s not totally alone. His independent sister Chelsea (Porscha Coleman) plays the crucial role of Sasha’s fun and worldly aunt, while his wacky father (Foxx’s former “In Living Color” co-star David Alan Grier) keeps things weird through his...

Jamie Foxx’s leap from TV to the big screen — in an era when the chasm between the two was gapingly vast — is one of the most notable cases of the early 2000s. Only four years separate the end of The Jamie Foxx Show on the now defunct WB network and the actor’s staggering achievement of winning the Best Actor Oscar (for Ray) and being nominated for Best Supporting Actor (for Collateral) in the same year, 2005. Since then, he’s headlined Django Unchained, co-starred in a couple of Spider-Man movies, voiced the lead in Pixar’s Soul and won a Grammy for his side ...

Make way for Kyla-Drew. At just 16 years old, the actress is making a splash as Sasha Dixon on Netflix's latest comedy series Dad Stop Embarrassing Me! The show is inspired by Jamie Foxx's real-life relationship with his 27-year-old daughter Corinne Foxx, who serves as an executive producer on the series along with her dad. "[Sasha] moves to Atlanta to get to know and spend time with her father and her other side of the family," Kyla-Drew told Popsugar. "I would say they have more of an estranged relationship, just because they haven't spent a lot of time together, so we get to see them grow and get to know each other throughout the show."
For Kyla-Drew, getting cast as a lead in the comedy series was a masterclass, thanks to Jamie and David Alan Grier, both of whom are In Living Color alumni. "I'm blessed,...
