While the story is a work of fiction, the film also includes documentary footage of Petri Kaipiainen working as a newspaper photographer. This includes a visit of Geng Biao to Finland in May, 1979, then the Secretary-General of China's Central Military Commission. During his visit, Biao also met Urho Kekkonen, the president of Finland.
The first film of director Jaakko Pyhälä and the first lead role of actor Kari Väänänen. After the film, Pyhälä, Antti Hytti and Marja-Liisa Raunio-Laine (the last of whom left during the pre-production of the film Jon (1983)) formed a production company "Tambur Filmi Oy".
