Following some recent set photos, Vanity Fair has shared the first official still from Guillermo del Toro's upcoming Netflix adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which the filmmaker has been trying to get made for a long time.

The image is not very revealing, and keeps the Jacob Elordi's Monster (assuming that is who's lying on the table) mostly under wraps as brilliant scientist Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac) faces the window.

Before production had begun on the anticipated film adaptation of Enid Blyton‘s The Magic Faraway Tree, director Ben Gregor worried that he’d put one of his stars, Andrew Garfield, off a little bit.

“We wrote a song for the film and we sent it to Andrew early on,” Gregor explains to The Hollywood Reporter. “And I hadn’t worked with him yet and you don’t know… With actors sometimes, you can put them off.”

But Garfield loved it. The gesture ended up being instrumental in the atmosphere that Gregor later cultivated on set — one of true-heartedness, trust, and that crucial Blyton ingredient: magic. “Everybody was putting themselves out there,” Gregor says.

Deadline reports that Sweet Tooth showrunner Jim Mickle has been tapped to write and direct the live-action adaptation of Gundam, which is being co-developed by Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks.

Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Sunrise, Gundam has been described as a space opera depicting a battle waged between massive mechs and armies of space colonies fighting for independence from Earth. The Gundam franchise has grown into a juggernaut over the decades, with dozens of TV shows, video games, manga, and much more.

Now, you may recall that this isn’t the first time Hollywood has attempted to get a live-action Gundam movie off the ground. It was announced in 2021 that Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) was working on a Gundam movie for Netflix and he seemed quite pumped about the project. Most recently Mickle was director, showrunner, and writer of Netflix’s acclaimed series “Sweet Tooth,” based on Jeff Lemire’s Vertigo comic and co-produced with Team Downey.

It's been six years since Legendary and Sunrise/Bandai Namco Filmworks teamed up to announce a Hollywood live-action Mobile Suit Gundam film. Longlegs, the latest horror project from The Blackcoat’s Daughter (a.k.a. February), I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and Gretel & Hansel director Osgood Perkins, reached theatres back in July (JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray gave the movie a 9/10 review you can read at This Link), and during its theatrical run it managed to earn over $100 million at the worldwide box office, becoming the biggest independent film release of 2024 and the top grossing R-rated horror film of 2024. The film, directed by “Longlegs” filmmaker Osgood Perkins, stars Theo James (“The White Lotus”) as twin brothers Hal and Bill. Exclusive: Universal Pictures is looking to get back in business with its Oscar-winning Oppenheimer star as sources tell Deadline the studio has landed the rights to Julianna Baggott’s short story The Hider with Robert Downey Jr. eyed to star. Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari will adapt the short story.

Plot details being kept under wraps. The project is in early development.

Downey Jr., Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell will produce through Team Downey. Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold will produce through Safehouse Pictures. Julianna Baggott will executive produce and Finneas Scott will co-produce.

Universal’s Executive Vice President of Production Development Matt Reilly will oversee the project for the Studio.

The reunion comes after Downey Jr. took home the Oscar for best supporting actor for his critically-acclaimed role in Universal and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

A “hopeful future.” How delightfully mythical that sounds in the face of the world’s many tragedies over the last thousand years — a sparkly daydream within a singular moment, gone as quickly as it arrived.

Despite positive reviews (92% on Rotten Tomatoes) and strong viewership (at least initially), Variety reports that Netflix's supernatural mystery series has been cancelled after just a single season.

The show - which is set in the same universe as The Sandman - got off to a strong start, managing to stay in the Netflix Top 10 English TV charts for three weeks after its release. It racked-up just 3.1 million views in its first three days of availability (Netflix defines a view as total series runtime divided by total hours viewed) before climbing to 4.7 million. It then dropped to just 1.8 million views in week three before falling off the Top 10 chart.

Rebecca Ferguson has signed on to star in the upcoming film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree.

Ferguson has joined the cast in the role of Dame Snap, the story’s terrifying headmistress.

The film is currently shooting in England at Shinfield Studios. Adapted by BAFTA Award-winner Simon Farnaby, the movie is directed by Ben Gregor.

The film is produced by Academy Award-nominee Pippa Harris and Nicolas Brown of Neal Street Productions, along with Danny Perkins (Greatest Days) of Elysian Film Group, and Jane Hooks. Executive Producers include Ashland Hill Media Finance’s Simon Williams, Joe Simpson, Jonathan Bross, and Palisades Park Pictures’ Tamara Birkemoe.

Ashland Hill Media Finance is fully financing The Magic Faraway Tree. Palisades Park Pictures is handling worldwide sales, with CAA Media Finance co-repping US rights.

When it comes to summer, the season was good to us as far as Netflix new releases are concerned. The summer months brought us new episodes of Bridgerton, Cobra Kai, Sweet Tooth, and so many other Netflix originals as well as popular movies like Atlas, A Family Affair, and Trigger Warning. Not to mention, there were other hits like Baby Reindeer and Supacell. But fall will be even better.

September boasts big stars on Netflix by the likes of Nicole Kidman, Kristen Bell, Elizabeth Olsen, Carrie Coon, Natasha Lyonne, and Joey King in new movies and shows that will set the top 10 ablaze. The month also celebrates the conclusion of Emily in Paris season 4 and launches some of the most exciting new titles of the year so far.

Saunders takes on the role of the kids’ ruthless Grandma. Additional supporting roles include Laurence Olivier Award-winner, Hiran Abeysekera as the Angry Pixie, one of the magical denizens of the woodland, and Pippa Bennett-Warner as Grandma’s assistant, Hannah.

Newcomers Delilah Bennett-Cardy, Billie Gadsdon and Phoenix Laroche will play the Thompson children.

Based on The Faraway Tree series of novels for children, the story follows Polly and Tim Thompson and their children, Beth, Joe and Fran, who find themselves forced to relocate to the remote English countryside. There, the children discover a magical tree and its extraordinary and eccentric occupants.

While San Diego Comic-Con continues to bring one surprise after another, a bear hopes to steal some of the spotlight with news about sticking its snoot into more nose candy for Cocaine Bear 2. According to industry scooper Daniel Rpk, a sequel to last year’s dark comedy thriller Cocaine Bear is in the works, with Elizabeth Banks producing and possibly getting back behind the camera as the project’s director.

Speaking with Rolling Stone last year about a possible sequel, Banks told the outlet, “I had an absolutely great time working on the (first movie). I loved how subversive, crazy, silly, and funny it was. I loved surprising people with the cast. I don’t think anybody was expecting Margo Martindale, who’s 70 years old, to shoot that kid. We had a lot fun, and if I got the opportunity to surprise the audience and delight myself again, I would take it.

20th Century Studios gave the Maze Runner trilogy director Wes Ball’s addition to the Planet of the Apes franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (read our review Here), a digital release earlier this month, and the 4K Uhd, Blu-ray, and DVD release is scheduled for August 27th – but before we get there, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will begin streaming on the Hulu service as of August 2nd! All nine prior films in the series are also streaming on Hulu, so fans will have the chance to binge-watch the entire Planet of the Apes franchise there!

The story of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set many years after the conclusion of War for the Planet of the Apes. Many apes societies have grown from when the Moses-like Caesar brought his people to an oasis, while humans have been reduced to a feral-like existence.

HBO’s House of the Dragon hit its highest mark to date in Nielsen’s streaming ratings for June 17-23.

The series racked up 1.23 billion minutes of viewing on Max for the week after its season two premiere (and including a few hours of viewing for the second episode on June 23). HotD‘s previous best showing was 1.02 billion minutes midway through its first season. Streaming figures for the show don’t include linear viewing on HBO.

The 1.23 billion minutes for House of the Dragon placed it fourth overall for the week, behind repeat leader Bridgerton (2.47 billion minutes), Your Honor (1.95 billion) and Prime Video’s The Boys (1.29 billion). For the week of June 17, HotD racked up 1.23 billion minutes viewed on Max across 12 available episodes, which was good enough for No. 4 on the overall streaming chart — trailing Bridgerton, Your Honor and The Boys.

For the week of June 10, Bridgerton flirted with 3.5 billion minutes viewed across 24 total episodes (and with a 77% female audience, Nielsen noted). Season 3’s four new episodes alone accounted for 2.5 billion of said tally.

With the start of new seasons, both The Boys and House of the Dragon returned to Nielsen’s streaming charts for the week of June 10-16. Neither one could reach the heights of Bridgerton, however, as the Netflix drama zoomed back to the No. 1 overall spot with the release of season three’s second half.

Bridgerton amassed 3.47 billion minutes of viewing for the week — the biggest single-week total for any show so far this year, beating the 3.04 billion for Fool Me Once in early January. Almost 2.5 billion of Bridgerton’s minutes, or more than 70 percent of the total, were for the four episodes that premiered June 13.

The Boys also opened its fourth season on Prime Video on June 13, and the show grabbed 1.19 billion minutes of watch time for the week (including viewing of previous seasons). That’s the largest one-week total for the show since Nielsen began releasing weekly streaming...

“The Boys” was the third-most-streamed title in the U.S. in the week of June 10-16, per Nielsen. While that total accounts for all seasons of the Amazon Prime Video superhero series, much viewership was driven by the release of Season 4. With four days of availability for those first three episodes, the series was watched for 1.2 billion minutes during this viewing window.

The top title of the week, unsurprisingly, was “Bridgerton.” The Shonda Rhimes’ produced Regency-era drama has been making viewership headlines for nearly two months now, since the release of Season 3’s first four episodes on May 16. The season’s final four episodes dropped on June 13, driving the series to hit a massive 3.5 billion minutes watched from June 10 to 16.

After its No. 1 debut the week prior, “Your Honor” was the second-most-streamed title of the week. The Bryan Cranston legal drama, which ran on Showtime from 2020 to 2023, has seen renewed...

A week after making its first appearance on the streaming charts, former Showtime drama Your Honor has rocketed to No. 1 overall.

The series starring Bryan Cranston nearly tripled its viewing time on Netflix and Paramount+ in the week of June 3-9, grabbing 1.53 billion minutes (vs. 544 million the week before) and bumping Bridgerton out of the top overall spot. Your Honor had its Netflix premiere on May 31.

Bridgerton, meanwhile, fell by about 42 percent week to week and finished with 806 million minutes of viewing — a figure that’s likely to go up in the next set of rankings, which will include the release of the Netflix show’s final season three episodes. It finished ninth overall and third among original series, behind Eric (926 million minutes of viewing) and Sweet Tooth (874 million).

After a three-week reign, Netflix’s Bridgerton ceded the top spot and slipped to No.

Bryan Cranston has now had two projects enjoy “the Netflix effect,” having first aired on linear networks before going on the garner major viewership on Netflix — first with “Breaking Bad,” and now with “Your Honor.”

“Your Honor,” the Showtime legal drama Cranston starred in and executive produced for two seasons from 2020 to 2023, was watched for 1.5 billion minutes from June 3 to June 9. This accounts for viewership across both Paramount+, where the series was already available, and Netflix, where it had its first full week of availability after being added on May 31. In the previous viewing window, when it was available for three days, “Your Honor” took the No. 9 position with 544 million minutes watched.

In a statement to Variety, Cranston said, “A first time experience gets a lot of attention, but there is a lot to be said for a second time. To have ‘Your Honor’ get new life at Netflix is the dream scenario.

Season 3 of the Shondaland period drama has now entered the streamer’s all-time list at number 10, booting “Baby Reindeer” and joining “Bridgerton” Seasons 1 and 2 on the leaderboard.

“Bridgerton” is the only series with three seasons on Netflix’s top 10 all-time list. “Stranger Things” is well-represented with Seasons 3 and 4, but its first two seasons came out before Netflix began to share viewership statistics.

Like many of its biggest shows, Netflix split “Bridgerton” Season 3 into two parts. Part 1 debuted on May 16; Part 2 launched on June 13.

Netflix’s top 10 is based on number of views over a TV season or a film’s first 91 days of availability — both “Bridgerton” Season 3 halves still have plenty of time to rack up more views in pursuit of the preceding seasons. “Baby Reindeer” has just a few days left before Netflix’s self-imposed cutoff.

Season 3 of “Bridgerton” has officially joined the list of Netflix’s most popular titles of all time.

With a cumulative 91.9 million views since May 16 premiere, the season rank at No. 10 on the all time English-language TV chart, which Netflix measures based on views during each title’s first 91 days of streaming. This total was calculated on June 30, only 45 days after May 16, meaning the season can — and will — continue to climb higher.

Not only did “Bridgerton” Season 3 achieve all-time status quickly — it could have done so even quicker. Because the season was released in two segments, it wasn’t eligible for the Most Popular list until after June 13, when the final four episodes were released, at which point its viewership total was reset, as Netflix calculates views by dividing total stream time by runtime. But by June 9, the first four episodes had hit 88.9 views on their own, which at the time...

Danny and Michael Philippou, directors of last year’s breakout horror hit “Talk to Me,” have set up their second feature film “Bring Her Back” in their Adelaide, Australia, hometown.

The film has attracted financial support from the South Australia Film Corporation and is expected to start production “in summer.” The producers are Samantha Jennings and Kristina Ceyton of Causeway Films and the finished film will be distributed worldwide by A24.

“We love that we get to be in Adelaide to make our next film, we feel so at home here – it’s where we feel most comfortable and inspired, and we want to be making movies here for a long time,” said the twin brothers in a prepared statement. “Talk to Me” was filmed in Adelaide with funding from both the Safc and the Adelaide Film Festival.

Will Forte is headed back to Netflix for his next series role — and reuniting with his former Saturday Night Live castmate Tina Fey.

Forte, who’s coming off the comedic thriller Bodkin at Netflix, has joined the cast of The Four Seasons at the streamer. The series, based on the 1981 film of the same name, stars and was co-created by Fey. The cast also includes Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, Kerri Kenney-Silver and Erika Henningsen.

Fey co-created The Four Seasons with Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield; all three worked together on 30 Rock. The film it’s based on, written and directed by Alan Alda, centers on three couples who vacation together each season and the changes in the group dynamic when one of couples splits up and the man brings a much younger woman on subsequent trips. Alda also starred in the movie alongside Carol Burnett, Len Cariou, Rita Moreno,...

Will Forte has been added to the cast of Netflix’s upcoming comedy “The Four Seasons,” opposite stars including Tina Fey and Steve Carell.

The Jessica Alba film “Trigger Warning” was the most-watched title on Netflix for the week of June 17-23, hitting 25.7 million views in its first three days of availability.

It was the only title that was able to rival “Bridgerton” Season 3, which was No. 1 on the TV chart with 16.5 million views in the first full week of availability of the final four episodes. That brings the season to a total of 85.2 million views since its release, making it almost certain to make Netflix’s list of its most-popular English-language TV shows by next week. “Baby Reindeer” is currently at the bottom of the list with 86.9 million views, and will continue to accrue views until July 11, 91 days after its release. “Bridgerton,” however, will keep accruing until much later.
