I can't believe it's been a little over a year since Netflix announced the sad news that Shadow and Bone had been cancelled. The streamer shared the update back in November 2023. Since then, many of us fans have still been thinking about the fantasy series.
Now, look. Season 2 was not my cup of tea and I did not enjoy it very much overall. However, because of how great season 1 was, it's following, and with so much more story still left to tell, I do think Netflix should have given the series one more shot.
But, here we are in this unfortunate position still. That doesn't mean the fantastical tale doesn't cross our minds every once in a while. If you're like me and looking for something to give you the same vibes, I've got your back. Here's 4 good shows like Shadow and Bone to watch if you miss the fantasy series.

The Wheel of Time will return in March 2025, and season 3 of the Amazon series looks like it could fix a frustrating trend from previous outings. The Wheel of Time season 3's trailer teases a lot of big developments, from Moiraine's and Rand's destinies to Egwene's ascension to Accepted. These moments from the third outing's trailer inspire hope that The Wheel of Time will continue its upward trajectory from season 2. The show is certainly improving, and the trailer's cinematography and raised stakes speak to that.
The Wheel of Time season 3 trailer teases events from the books, so it looks like the new episodes will also buck a controversial trend after repeated criticisms. Overall, The Wheel of Time has received mixed reviews, with fans of Robert Jordan's books expressing frustration with the show's approach to adapting them. After breaking out in 2020 with Relic and helming this year’s Rosemary’s Baby prequel Apartment 7A, filmmaker Natalie Erika James is now filming supernatural body horror movie Saccharine, per Deadline.
Midori Francis will play the lead.
Saccharine follows “Hana (Francis), a lovelorn medical student who becomes terrorised by a hungry ghost after taking part in an obscure weight-loss craze: eating human ashes.”
Opposite Francis are Danielle Macdonald (Patti Cake$) playing Josie, Hana’s best friend, and Madeleine Madden (The Wheel of Time) as Alanya, a personal trainer and fitness influencer.
“There is so much toxic messaging around weight and appearance that permeates every corner of our culture. Saccharine is an intimate look into one woman’s struggle with body image, self-worth, and shame-driven compulsion, told through a supernatural body-horror with a queer lens and an edge of the absurd,” Natalie Erika James said of the project.

The former NBC sitcom A.P. Bio has a robust cast full of hilarious main and supporting characters. Mike O'Brien of Saturday Night Live acclaim created the original sitcom, which first premiered on February 1, 2018. The show is centered around professor turned high-school teacher Jack Griffin, who is played by Glenn Howerton of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. A.P. Bio follows Jack as he transitions from being a philosophy professor at Harvard University to an A.P. Biology teacher at his hometown high school after falling from grace due to a YouTube video.
A.P. Bio ran for two seasons on NBC before moving to Peacock for its final two seasons. The series was canceled twice even though it maintained an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 88%, with its second and third seasons earning perfect 100% critic scores. Despite the positive reviews of A.P. Bio, there was not enough consistent viewership for the series to continue past four seasons.

The Martian extended edition adds depth to certain scenes and characters, enhancing the already thrilling storyline of Watney on Mars. Ridley Scott's filmography showcases peaks and valleys, but The Martian is hailed as one of his highest peaks, a soft sci-fi funny and brilliant adventure. Additional scenes in the extended edition provide insight into character dynamics and show more of Watney's resourcefulness on his mission to survive Mars.
The Martian extended edition adds 11 new and extended scenes to Ridley Scott's space epic. At over two hours and 20 minutes, The Martian is already a long movie, though it still doesn't match the runtime of some of Scott's epic features, like Napoleon, Black Hawk Down, and Gladiator. Despite the long runtimes of many of Scott's films, the director can't seem to stop tinker meddling with his movies even after release. CBS introduces the first-ever Latin-inspired game show in the US, Lotería Loca, hosted by Jaime Camil and featuring Latin music sensation Sheila E. Creator Jeff Apploff talks about creating an authentic and fun show with a Latin tone, incorporating elements of the Mexican game Lotería. Exclusive: Pat Sharp, the British presenter known for his work on Top of the Pops and Fun House, has said he is “truly sorry” after making a lewd remark to a woman while hosting an events industry awards show.
The 61-year-old broadcaster, who shot to fame in the 1980s, was compèring the Conference News Agency Awards last Friday when he made a joke that shocked a room of around 400 people, according to several sources.
The incident has coincided with Greatest Hits Radio announcing today that Sharp is leaving the Bauer Media Group station to “explore other opportunities.” It is understood that Bauer made a decision some time ago not to renew Sharp’s contract, which expires at the end of March. However, having been made aware of the incident, Bauer said Sharp will “not return to the station with immediate effect.”

The Wheel spun another great episode with The Flame of Tar Valon.
The Wheel of Time Season 1 Episode 6 saw our villagers reunite (finally) with each other -- and with Moiraine.
Things also heated up with the politics within the White Tower, and Moiraine suffered the consequences.
Many reunions happened throughout the hour, and it was a delight to see everyone (sort of) in the same place again.
The biggest reunion happened between Nynaeve and Egwene, as the former mentored her before the events of The Two Rivers.
Seeing them reunite in the White Tower was beautiful but rushed.
The reunions felt rushed, and the episode would have been stronger if they had lingered on the emotions of seeing each other after over a month apart.
Logain finally faces his punishment now that they have reached the White Tower.
He wants to die; he begs to be killed but gets forced...

Exclusive: Amazon Prime Video’s series adaptation of Robert Jordan’s best-selling The Wheel Of Time fantasy novels has come out of the gate strong.
“We can firmly say that Wheel of Time was the most watched series premiere of the year and one of the Top 5 series launches of all time for Prime Video,” Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke told Deadline about the debut, acknowledging that the company — like most streamers — “try to figure out how transparent we are going to be in the future” with ratings.
Prime Video is among the SVOD platforms that do not disclose viewership data but Salke revealed that “there were tens and tens of millions of streams” for The Wheel Of Time in the first three days of its release, with the US, India, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany as the top countries.

One of the central appeals of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time is how the late author managed to make his fantasy world feel both huge and small at the same time. It’s a tricky feat Prime Video’s adaptation struggledto pull off during its first two episodes.
But with Episode 3, titled “A Place of Safety,” the showrunners manage to convey that epic yet intimate scope using a technique I honestly didn’t expect to see. The best shows, fantasy or otherwise, know when to expand their horizons and become about something deeper and wider than the original...
