Emile Norman's life partner, Brooks Clement, was with him for thirty years, from 1943 until Brooks' death from cancer in 1973.
Emile Norman died in a Monterey, California hospice on September 24, 2009, two years after the completion of this documentary, and less than one week after ceasing work on the creation of new art due to old age infirmity.
Husband and wife actors Michael Tucker and Jill Eikenberry, of L.A. Law (1986) fame, and who acted as producers of this film, were friends and neighbors of Emile Norman in Big Sur, California, and were the impetus behind Norman's participation in the making of the documentary on his life.
Joseph Jennings is the musical director, and Phil Wilder is one of the singers of, Chanticleer, a renowned full-time classical vocal ensemble headquartered in San Francisco. Emile Norman hosted Chanticleer in his home many times for musical retreats, for rehearsal space, and for concerts. Over the last three decades, Chanticleer has developed a major reputation for its interpretations of Renaissance music, but it also performs a wide repertoire of jazz, gospel, and other venturesome new music and is widely known as an "Orchestra of Voices."
