Earlier today it was announced that Hiroshi Abe will be playing the lead role in a new movie titled “Tengoku Kara no Yell”, which was inspired by the late Okinawan altruist and mentor, Hikaru Nakasone. The film will be directed by former A.D. Chikato Kumazawa with a script by Masaya Ozaki (Kekkon Dekinai Otoko, Shiroi Haru).
Abe will play a man named Hikaru Oshiro who builds a music studio in the basement of his business in Motobu-cho, Okinawa to give local teens a place to practice for free—provided they’re respectful, empathetic to others, and do well in school. The real-life Nakasone continued mentoring youths right up until his death from cancer in November of 2009.
Abe’s co-stars include Mimura as Oshiro’s wife Michiko and 18-year-old Nanami Sakuraba as an aspiring singer and guitarist.
“Tengoku Kara no Yell” will be released in Japan sometime in 2011.
