Kristina Buozyte initially wanted to make a short film (up to 20 minutes). Despite the low budget, the film producer Aidas Avizinis insisted on doing a feature film. Initially the decision to make a proper length film was skeptically received by the tutors of the film school. However, Kolekcioniere (2008) eventually was competing in Silver Crane national film award competition along with the films done by Kristina Buozyte's tutor Algimantas Puipa and other film "Loss". The winner was "The Collectress".
The crushing of the dog scene prompted a lot of discussion, but the dog called Nora was very friendly and submissive. The strongest emotional impact in the scene was achieved by the sound, which took a while to make compelling in post production. Nora itself was not hurt at all.
On the last shooting day the crew accidentally broke a plasma TV, featured in the movie. The falling lighting lamp smashed its screen.
Kolekcioniere (2008) was nominated in 8 of 14 categories at the Lithuanian film award Silver Crane. The Silver Crane award was organized for the first time in 2008. The Collectress won "The Best Picture Award".
