Despite being very been there done that and being something that has been done quite a number of times in various shows, the premise did sound relatable. And this is coming from somebody who has a thing for great premises that are easy to relate to. Also do like Pinkie Pie as a character, 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' (even with its downs was one of the best animated shows in recent years) did see her being annoying at times but she could also be very funny.
Although not quite as badly as "Princess Probz", "Pinkie Pie Hyper Helper" is not a good representation of her and it is another bland and dull episode and further spoiled by too much credibility straining. As well as the usual things. It is regrettable to say that the quality of the show, even when giving it a very fair chance by watching all the episodes to see whether it would get better and because of liking 'Friendship is Magic' and the Mane 6 so much, never really improved. All the problems that doomed 'My Little Pony: Pony Life', which was every bit as weak as its advertising, are here.
The best, or more like least bad, aspect is the voice acting, all doing a valiant job with what they're given. Andrea Libman really does try hard in making Pinkie Pie likeable in some way with some nice nuances. It is a shame however that the material severely works against her.
Everything else ranges between pretty bad to awful. There is nothing imaginative or vibrant about the animation, which is rushed and careless looking throughout. Indicative of rushed deadlines and low budget. The music is like cheesy high school quality and never fits with what goes on. The theme tune is grating. The writing is limp and unimaginative, complete with an over reliance on immature slapstick. As well as humour that really disrespects its target audience, making older viewers feel dumb. Not to mention that it is far too tame and is never particularly amusing let alone funny. Parts are out of place too.
Charm and soul is near completely absent in a story that sounds relatable on paper, but is really lacking in energy and bland atmospherically. Not to mention that it has some of the most ridiculous moments of the entire show. Absolutely did not buy Rainbow Dash still being able to cook when sick, which in real life would have a health hazard and unhygenic. Nor the pointless, contradictory and completely unfair ending that was not fair on Pinkie Pie.
Like the story, the character writing is really simplified to stereotypical one-dimensional level and the characters are neither interesting or easy to relate to. Really wanted to identify with Pinkie Pie here, but her hyperactivity is really overdone to the point she becomes obnoxious. Didn't like how she was treated, too cruel and not necessary.
In summary, no improvement whatsoever. 2/10.
