The Puchon International Film Festival (PiFan)’s Network of Asian Fantastic Films (Naff) has announced this year’s It Project line-up of 21 selections from 13 countries.
These include Greek filmmaker Costas Zapas’ Frankenstein: A Death Odyssey and Kei Ishikawa’s comic fantasy Baby, a Japan-Poland co-production.

“Making the selection was a challenge this year with 141 project submissions - more than a 60% increase on last year,” says Naff managing director Thomas Nam.
Korean projects include Two Weddings And A Funeral director Kim Jho Gwang-soo’s period piece Secret Detective & Vampire; 2011 PiFan Audience Award winner Ji Ha Jean’s Re: Make; and Teenage Hooker Became Killing Machine director Nam Ki-woong’s Capsule.

We got our first look at the latest entry into the UK horror comedy genre yesterday, with the first poster for Stalled, and now we’ve had three great behind the scenes images from the production sent our way, giving us a look at some of the blood and festivities we have to look forward to.
Christian James (Freak Out) is back behind the camera once more, directing from a script by frequent collaborator Dan Palmer (Freak Out), who also stars.
“It’s Christmas Eve and a soon to be shit-canned maintenance gopher (Dan Palmer) is changing light bulbs and cleaning toilets instead of drinking egg-nog and making out with drunk receptionists at the annual office party. Unfortunately for this forlorn floor-sweeper he chooses to use the Ladies’ Restroom the very second a Zombie Outbreak occurs! Will he bowl us over and flush away the undead or (like in his...

Currently in post-productions, Stalled is the latest entry into the UK horror comedy genre that British filmmakers often seem to have a handle on better than most. (Naturally, I point you towards Shaun of the Dead as a good starting point if you’re new to the genre.)
We’ve had the first poster for the film sent over, giving us a tease of its intriguing premise:

In a simple answer: Yes. Our reps at After Dark Films have informed me that After Dark Films is gearing up for a fourth year of Horrorfest. Expect another wave of "8 Films to Die For" to hit theaters in January of 2010. The question is: How many original productions will After Dark debut this time? In the past, Courtney Solomon's company relied mostly on acquisitions. For its third year, After Dark injected three "originals" into the mix: The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations , Perkins' 14 and Slaughter .

Chicago – Lionsgate and After Dark Films’ recently released their third collection of “8 Films to Die For” and this year proved to be the most uninspiring octet to date. With fewer risks taken than the last two years and less extreme failures or successes, “After Dark Horrorfest III” is terrifyingly dull.
Overall DVD Rating: 2.0/5.0 What makes this year’s collection rather forgettable is the lack of extremes on either side of the rating spectrum. The first two years produced some truly excellent genre gems including “Borderland,” “The Hamiltons,” and “The Abandoned.” At the same time, movies like “Dead Lake,” “Undead,” and “Nightmare Man” should be buried in a deep hole and never see the light of day again.
I have to admit that I liked the variety in quality of the last two years more than this year, when nearly every film registered as forgettable more than good or bad. There was one notable standout,...

Alright, I'm finally done Lionsgate's After Dark Horrorfest III box and I'm glad to report the films all manage to stay consistently entertaining.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10
From Within is not a perfect film by any means but it's easily the best movie from the After Dark Horrorfest III line-up. On the surface, it's about a suicide curse that infects an intensely religious small town in Southern America but there is a strong subtext about how fear and religious fervor can make people do unimaginable evil. Actually, it's very similar to the basic theme running through The Mist and as I watched it I thought to myself that this would be the kind of story that Stephen King would like.

The official After Dark Horror Fest III: 8 Films To Die For site has once again been updated with some new trailerage, this time for Stewart Hopewell's based-on-true-events horror film Slaughter.
A young woman thinks she is leaving her abusive life behind when she moves to Atlanta and ends up living at her family farm. She quickly learns that abuse comes in even crueler forms.
The trailer starts off pretty slow and looks sort of cheaply made at first but thankfully it really picks up by the end. It does not, however, live up to whatever's going on in that sweet poster.

After Dark Films breaks new ground in its 2009 edition of the "8 Films to Die For" Horrorfest. Rather than enter its third year (running January 9th - 15th) with more acquisitions, After Dark head Courtney Solomon and his team filtered two original horror film productions into the mix. Perkins' 14 was one (a joint venture with Massify.com), the other was Stewart Hopewell's Slaughter . An art and film major hailing from Virginia, Hopewell makes his feature directing debut with the latter, a calculatedly bipolar experience (so says its director). With the holidays upon us and the 9th closing in, ShockTillYouDrop.com got a chance to connect with Hopewell to learn more about his film - he was optimistic, confident and well in tune with knowing when to hold back from...

This afternoon we got our hands on an exclusive look at the early one sheet for Stewart Hopewell's Slaughter, one of next year's "8 Films to Die For". You'll find the poster for that, along with one for The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations, which is also playing in next year's After Dark Horror Fest, which runs January 9-15 nationwide. In Butterfly, a young man discovers he has inherited the powers of "The Butterfly Effect" and attempts to solve the mystery of his high school girlfriend's death using his newfound ability, only to unwittingly unleash a vicious serial killer. In Sluaghter, a young woman thinks she is leaving her abusive life behind when she moves to Atlanta and ends up living at her family farm. She quickly learns that abuse comes in even crueler forms.

It was officially announced today by CEO Courtney Solomon that After Dark Films has acquired the rights to showcase Adam Gieraschs Autopsy and Jody Dwyers Aussie horror pic Dying Breed as part of its After Dark Horrorfest series. The Horrorfest lineup is nearly complete with the five previously announced titles being The Broken, The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelation, From Within, Perkins' 14 and Slaughter. Adam Gierasch directed Autopsy, from a script he wrote with Jace Anderson and E.L. Katz. Adam and Jace previously collaborated as writers on the Dario Argento film, Mother of Tears, and are currently in production on Night of the Demons that Adam is directing. Autopsy stars Robert Patrick (Balls of Fury, Terminator 2), Jessica Lowndes (90210) and Jenette Goldstein (Aliens) with Ross McCall (Band of Brothers). Jessica Horowitz, Steve Markoff, Bruce McNall and Warren Zide produced. More inside....

We first spotted the new poster for After Dark's 8 Films to Die For (official site) at this year's Sdcc. It was pretty hot then, but it is even better now that we've got an official hi-rez image of it!
Hot damn on a stick of holy fuck! That would make one sweet tattoo. Oh yeah, there's some skin and boobage too, I guess... Anyway, the third Horrorfest kicks off in January, and so far we know of three titles out of the eight: Broken, Slaughter (formerly Faithless) and Perkins' 14.
Perkins' 14, directed by Craig Singer, follows the strangeness of one Mr. Robert Perkins, who has built a brigade of 14 brainwashed bodyguards. All does not go well, however, as Perkins is kidnapped and his drones will do anything to see him safe ... anything.
