Netflix has unveiled its upcoming International slate this morning, which includes Revelations, a new thriller from Train to Busan filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho. First-look images introduce the thriller and its central characters.
Revelations will debut on Netflix in 2025.
The crime thriller with a supernatural twist follows “a pastor and a detective, each driven by their own beliefs. The pastor believes it’s his divine calling to punish the culprit behind a missing-person case, while the detective assigned to the case continues to be haunted by visions of her dead sister.”
Ryu Jun-yeol and Shin Hyeon-bin star.
Netflix previously gave a bit more insight into the characters, “Ryu Jun-yeol portrays Min-chan, a pastor who runs a church in a small provincial town with a mission for church planting. When a man named Yang-rae visits his church, Min-chan receives a divine revelation identifying him as the culprit who abducted his son, and he sets forth to pursue justice.

Hyun Moon-Seop’s Devils Stay aims to break all exorcism horror rules. The official trailer and poster get creepy with a look at what happens after an exorcism has gone wrong, and Catholicism won’t save anyone.
Well Go USA releases Devils Stay in theaters on December 6, 2024.
As the poster’s tagline explains, “Three days after the funeral, the dead heart awakens.”
In the film, “After the sudden tragic loss of his daughter following an exorcism, a renowned heart surgeon refuses to face the reality that his child has died, despite declarations from medical examiners and even the priest who performed the expulsion. But as the funeral rites begin, mourners start witnessing unnerving changes to the girl’s body, leaving the priest to wonder whether something much more sinister—an evil more ancient than Catholicism itself—may once again be looming over them all.”

South Korea is one of the world’s hottest markets for exports across the entertainment spectrum, from K-pop stars to movies and TV shows to social media content creators and webtoons.
But South Korea also has some work ahead to further open up its content marketplace to outside investment and larger partnerships with media and entertainment giants in the U.S. and other territories. That was one of the key takeaways from the U-Knock: International Content Investment Forum 2024, held Nov. 7 in Las Vegas and sponsored by South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the state’s Korea Creative Content Agency.
The gathering brought together producers, distributors, investors and technology firms to discuss the turbulent state of the global content industry and how South Korea can continue to keep its sector growing at a fast clip. The aim is to help state officials and business leaders “build lasting...

The second season of Hellbound season 2 doesn’t end with any definite cliffhanger, and the way it wrapped all the storylines of all the major characters, I am not sure if we are going to hear the announcement of a third season anytime soon. But if there is one, it would further explore the world of Hellbound and how things really work in there. For example, we still don’t know on what basis the angels announce the decrees to people and why some people are condemned to hell in a short period of time, while others, like Jin-Su, are given 20 years before they are taken to hell. I am sure the ending of Season 2 left you with more questions than it answered, so here I am exploring everything we can expect in the third season, that is if Netflix green-lights it.

IndieWire has all sorts of horror and Halloween recommendations for you to have a scary-good time on October 31. But while “The Nightmare Before Christmas” teaches us the potential danger of indulging in Halloween all year round, perhaps you would like Halloween to stretch out a little longer?
That’s where TV can continue to haunt your watch list for weeks and months. This got us specifically thinking about Korean TV series and how they make use of supernatural and fantastical elements for more than just horror purposes — K-dramas love a comedy or heartwarming character piece with a ghost or reincarnation element; they equally love a silly rom-com or a poignant slow-burn with a ghost; and there are fantastic action series where the goal of defeating supernatural spirits and demons is what paves the way for the aforementioned rom-coms and slow-burns.

As expected, the ending of Hellbound season 2 left us with more unanswered questions than we initially began with. [Spoiler Alert] By the end of season 2, we still have no idea where the monsters came from or on what basis people were getting their decrees. Obviously, it wasn’t based on their sin as Jung Jin-Su believed, because in such a case, why would a newly born, practically sinless Jaehyeon receive a decree from an angel? In season 2, we also came across a new set of individuals called the “Resurrected One,” the people who have come back from the dead. And to be honest, I think the time people spend in hell does shed some light on how things work in Hellbound. As per the show’s timeline, Jung-Ja was the first to be resurrected, and then some 4 years later, Jin-Su followed suit. But if you noticed, Jaehyeon was resurrected in a matter of seconds.

This dark thriller takes us into a society teetering on collapse as inexplicable prophecies of one’s hellish fate sow chaos. Hellbound’s vision is unflinching as supernatural elements intensify power struggles between cults vying to control the panic. Season 2 shows humanity at its extremes yet finds glimmers of moral purpose amid the ruins.
We rejoin this bleak world still reeling from “demonstrations,” gruesome spectacles where angels decree a soul’s end only for monstrous executors to drag them to hell moments later. As fear turns city streets to battlegrounds, two groups rise from the panic: the New Truth, a quasi-religious movement led by Jung Jinsu, and Arrowhead, violent gangs dealing their brand of vigilante justice.
When Jinsu and another victim, Park Jungja, impossible resurrect, the unease morphs to hysteria. Resurrection shakes the existing order, but what meaning can be divined from beyond the grave? As powerbrokers manipulate faith for control,...

Halloween’s just around the corner, and you’re trying to figure out the perfect horror show to watch during the spooky season but just can’t seem to find the right fit. Well, do not fret, my friend, because in this list I will try to cover your specific criteria because not everyone likes gore, ghosts, or slow-burn mystery thrillers, and that’s totally alright. Horror is a massive mezze platter that can leave you overwhelmed, so let me help you decide which dish you want to devour. Many believe Korean dramas are only reserved for romance lovers because that’s the stereotypical Korean drama that’s been popularized over the years. But the Korean entertainment industry, just as any other industry, consists of many genres, melodrama being their favorite, comedy, romance, mystery thrillers, and yes, of course, horror. While always bringing their A-game in the genre with films...

Netflix’s Hellbound received mixed reviews when it first came out. The show, which focuses on the dangers of religious fanaticism, transforms into a political drama in its second season just as every other dystopian K-drama we’ve seen before. I will admit that I was slightly disappointed by the second season because we didn’t really get any answers to all the questions we were left with at the end of the first season, which means it’s possible that a third season is in the works, though nothing is confirmed. Hellbound season 2 takes place 8 years after cult leader Jung Jin-Su’s secret demonstration in front of Detective Kyung-Hun. The show begins with a recap of Jin-Su’s fatal demonstration. It then switches over to a sequence of Jin-Su’s fears playing out visually. It seems this is Jin-Su’s hell, and he’s reliving old negative memories until suddenly he’s resurrected.

Hellbound is a supernatural horror drama set in South Korea that dives into a world where otherworldly beings deliver ominous death decrees to individuals, sealing their fate in hell. In season 1, we witnessed these terrifying creatures, known as executors, carry out brutal punishments on “sinners.”
Season 2 amplifies the chaos: as the decrees continue to appear, society descends further into turmoil. The religious faction, The New Truth, is now led by a new chairman who struggles to uphold and spread the faith’s doctrine amidst growing skepticism. Meanwhile, a militant group known as the Arrowheads gains power, using violence to impose their twisted beliefs and drawing more followers in their wake. Adding to the pandemonium, previous sinners suddenly resurrect, throwing the world into deeper disarray. Meanwhile, the government sees an opportunity, manipulating tensions between rival organizations to regain control over the masses, though its true intentions remain murky.

Hellbound Season 2 introduces Kim Sung-cheol as the new actor who plays Jeong Ji-su, replacing Yoo Ah-in after he was dropped from the sophomore season due to a drug use scandal in 2023.
The hit Netflix supernatural K-drama brings back a lot of characters from Season 1 as it continues its unusual premise of divine deaths happening in front of the public eye.
Aside from the storyline centered around divine interventions, Season 2 showcases more of the political drama as the Arrowheads have taken over a dystopian future set in South Korea.

Every time a dystopian Korean drama gets a new season, I take a moment to step back and bury my expectations underground because, more often than not, the shows end up going down a predictable path of political drama that doesn’t do justice to the rich and deepworld-building of the previous season. Sweet Home is the perfect example of this concept and how a show can crumble under its own weight trying to be so many things at once. What I appreciate about Hellbound is that it doesn’t get bogged by too many ideas, but does it have any ideas at all? Hellbound season 2 takes place 8 years after Jin-Su seemingly disappeared from the sight of the world. After the resurrection of two main characters, Jung-Ja and Jung Jin-Su, the apparent messiah, there’s political warfare in the country. The Arrowheads have taken over, and there’s anarchy on the streets.

Hellbound Season 2 is a rollercoaster ride that you don’t want to get on, and not in a good way at all. The second season completely falls short of its predecessor and progresses in a terribly melancholic direction. Yes, it’s a dystopian world, but the lack of hope is a bit too drab. The season follows the political landscape of South Korea after the resurrection of Jung-Ja and Jin-Su. Unlike earlier, the Arrowheads have now taken over the country as the most powerful organization, and the whole place is in chaos. Kim Jeong-Chil is now under the thumb of Lee Soo-Kyung, a member of the government who is determined to keep the country from being completely doomed, but how does one do that? According to her, it’s by dividing everybody into two teams, The New Truth and Sodo, leaving Arrowheads eradicated. At the time of making the plan,...

Netflix’s first season of “Hellbound” debuted three years ago and spilled a nightmare world onto screens from its very first scene. The dark supernatural K-Drama excavated faith, organized religion and the instant evaporation of societal niceties when our fundamental, existential beliefs are called into question.
“Hellbound” Season 1 saw the world turned upside down when unearthly beings start condemning people to hell, allowing new fanatics and schemers to rise to power under the guise of spiritual purity.
It’s been a long time since Season 1, and it was a dense six episodes, so if you need a refresher, here’s the “Hellbound” Season 1 recap you need to get prepped for Season 2.
“Hellbound” (Netflix) Angels, Demons, Decrees and Demonstrations
The central premise of “Hellbound” is that the world is turned upside down when inexplicable, brutally violent and seemingly divine deaths emerge in the public eye and the social contract dissolves as cults and new faiths rise.

Netflix’s Hellbound had mixed reviews when it first aired. The series, adapted from a popular webtoon of the same name, tells the story of a dystopian world where “God’s Will” is demonstrated through hellish creatures appearing on earth and brutally murdering sinners in daylight and then sending them to hell. The core idea of the series is fantastic, and it starts off on the right foot, giving us a solid story about why some people believe that these creatures are here to show us a righteous path as humans; however, as it keeps going, some rules start to change, and things start to fall apart, specifically with a time jump. There’s a character on the show who falls off the face of the earth, but I imagine this was done on purpose to pull people in for a second season. Still, it’s a bit random. The...

Netflix unveiled their 2025 film slate on the sidelines of the Busan International Film Festival (Biff).
Titles include Revelations, from Train to Busan and Hellbound director Yeon Sang-ho. The film follows a pastor and a detective, each driven by their own beliefs while dealing with a missing-person case. Ryu Jun-yeol (The Night Owl) and Shin Hyun-been (Hospital Playlist) star in the film.
“In my last few works, I’ve worked with heavy visual effects and computer graphics because my stories had monsters and creatures in them, but for Revelations, we didn’t have much computer graphics in it, so the work process has been very different,” Yeon said. “For example, we shot a lot with natural light and we sometimes have to wait to get the right light.”

Netflix has released its Netflix & Chills line up and it is packed with fun, spooky titles. There are horror movies and shows for everyone in the home, but let’s focus on what’s available for us big kids.
There’s no season horror fans love more than spooky season. This is when streaming platforms release the best in the genre! And few streamers do it like Netflix. Needless to say, if you want to be entertained with chills and thrills this Halloween season, you’re going to want to have a Netflix account. I love that Netflix considers spooky fans of all ages. For the kiddos, Netflix will release the animated movie The Bad Guys: Haunted Heist at the top of the month on Oct. 3. And on Oct. 17, older children can enjoy Jurassic World: Chaos Theory. But what about the older crowd? What is there to watch when the kids go to sleep?...

Japanese stars Oguri Shun (“Godzilla vs. Kong”) and Aoi Yu (“Rurouni Kenshin: Final Chapter Part I – The Final”) are set to reunite on screen after 23 years in “Human Vapor,” a new Netflix series produced in collaboration with Toho. The duo last worked together in 2001’s “Ao to Shiro de Mizuiro.”

Clive Barker's 1987 film "Hellraiser" has always existed a little off to the side of the usual rogue's gallery of 1980s horror slashers. Its central demon, originally credited as Lead Cenobite (Doug Bradley), is usually mentioned alongside other notorious cinematic serial killers like Michael Myers from the "Halloween" movies, Jason Voorhees from the "Friday the 13th" movies, and Freddy Krueger from the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies ... but he is not quite the same. The Lead Cenobite, better known as Pinhead, isn't a vicious killer who murders teenagers, but a sex deity, culled from a parallel dimension where physical pain has become indivisible with sexual pleasure. Pinhead will definitely kill you, but he will do so with extreme kink. The nails in his face were placed there as part of an extreme S&m game.
"Hellraiser" began its life as "The Hellbound Heart," Barker's 1986 novella. His film adaptation isn't quite as sexed-up,...

Revelations: Alfonso Cuarón teams up with Train to Busan director Yeon Sang-ho for new Netflix movie
The international directors of thrillers will be combining forces. The Hollywood Reporter has said that Yeon Sang-ho, the director of the Korean horror film, Train to Busan, has just signed on to direct a feature film adaptation of Revelations, which is based on his own Korean internet animated series. This new film will be a Netflix original after Sang-ho already made three projects with the streamer. He directed the sci-fi feature Jung_E, as well as the popular high-concept series Hellbound and Parasyte: The Grey. A second season of Hellbound is also currently in development at Netflix.
THR has also reported that Sang-ho will be teaming up with Alfonso Cuarón on this picture. Cuarón is on board as an executive producer and he will be consulting on the project. Netflix did not divulge how Cuarón had come to join the film, but Sang-ho would express his enthusiasm for working with the acclaimed Mexican director.
