Jennie Garth has revealed she underwent hip replacement surgery and is opening up for the first time about her difficult experience with in vitro fertilization with husband Dave Abrams.

In a video interview accompanying her Self magazine cover story, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum speaks about her experience trying IVF before her and Abrams’ brief split in 2018. “Before we broke up, we had been undergoing IVF treatments and trying to have a baby and it kept failing,” she revealed. “And that was really, really hard on both of us individually and on our relationship.”

Garth continued, “When we decided to let go of that possibility [of having children together], it sort of freed us up to love each other in a different way.”

Garth has three children with ex-husband Peter Facinelli.

In the magazine, Garth goes into depth about undergoing hip replacement surgery, saying she “lived in pain for a very long time.”

Thomasin McKenzie of Last Night in Soho and Old and Zoë Kravitz of The Batman and Mad Max: Fury Road have signed on to star in the psychological horror movie Self-Portrait, Deadline reports. Based on the Rachel Lyon novel Self-Portrait With Boy, Self-Portrait is set to be directed by Mona Fastvold (The World to Come), who has also written the screenplay with Brady Corbet (Vox Lux).

McKenzie will be taking on the role of grieving photographer Lu Rile (McKenzie), who moves to a run-down artists’ warehouse in 1990s Brooklyn where she befriends Katherine (Kravitz), an accomplished painter who lives downstairs. When Katherine suffers her own tragic loss, Lu unknowingly captures the incident in one of her self-portraits, generating a sublime but horrifying image. Exclusive: Here’s some neat casting. Zoë Kravitz (The Batman) and Thomasin McKenzie (Leave No Trace) are set to lead psychological horror film Self-Portrait which Mona Fastvold (The World To Come) will direct from a script she co-wrote with Brady Corbet (Vox Lux).

What would happen if you stripped the gore from Squid Game and added the charm of New Girl mixed with the eeriness of The Truman Show? You’d get something like Jake Johnson’s quiet and quirky directorial debut Self-Reliance. The understated film, which premiered at SXSW, follows a lonely, cantankerous man who is presented with the opportunity to participate in a reality television show for the dark web.

Thomas (Johnson) lives an insular life, defined by his mundane routines. He wakes up at 7 a.m. to the blaring horn sound of his phone alarm and spins on a home stationary bike before heading to his office, where he spends hours hunched over a computer. He used to be in a relationship — but that ended a few years ago. Judging from the framed photograph of Thomas and his ex-girlfriend (Natalie Morales) prominently positioned on his bedside table, Thomas isn’t over it.

Written, produced, directed by and starring Jake Johnson, Self Reliance follows Tommy (Jake Johnson), a man accomplishing nothing else in life except to exist, and attempts to spice up his life lead to some near-death encounters. Along with Johnson, the film stars Anna Kendrick, Natalie Morales and Emily Hampshire.

Tommy is a lonely man coasting through life because he’s afraid to confront his failures, and hides behind his mom (who he lives with). While walking home from work one day he meets Andy Samberg, who invites the wayward man into his limo for a ride to a mysterious location. The actor tells Tommy that he’s been selected to participate in something, but Samberg can’t recall any other details. Once they arrive at the destination (an old abandoned warehouse of some sort), Tommy walks through a red door to a desk where two men sit, waiting to explain what he’s gotten into.

San Francisco, Aug 25 (Ians) After Apple expanded its self service repair programme to MacBook Air and MacBook Pro notebooks with the M1 chips, iFixit said that the tech giant’s repair programme is creating an aexcruciating gauntlet of hurdles’.

According to iFixit’s Sam Goldheart, the self repair programme seems like good news — but as it turns out, their programme “makes MacBook Pros seem less repairable”.

“This time, along with the manuals, Apple is presenting DIY repairers with an excruciating gauntlet of hurdles,” Goldheart wrote on a blogpost.

“Now, if a ‘Top Case with Battery and Keyboard’ that a laptop is literally built into sounds expensive to you, it is! It costs more than 500 bucks — with an 88 core return, it will run you 439. That’s about 30-50 per cent of the cost of a brand new MacBook,” Goldheart added.

The Toronto Film Festival has announced new titles for its TIFF Docs and Contemporary World Cinema sections.

The TIFF Docs section will open with the previously announced Sacha Jenkins’ Louis Armstrong’s Black & Blues, and there’s a North American premiere for Laura Poitras’ opioid epidemic doc All the Beauty and the Bloodshed from Participant.

The festival will also feature newly-added world bows for Cine-Guerrilas: Scenes from the Labudovic Reels, by director Mila Rurajlic; Documentary Now!, by Alex Buono, Rhys Thomas and Micah Gardner; Sam Soko and Lauren DeFilippo’s Free Money, about a Kenyan village being given a universal basic income by an American organization; The Grab, from Blackfish director Gabriela Cowperthwaite; and Stephanie Johnes’ Maya and the Wave.

Joanna and Chip Gaines, the pair of home improvement pros who hosted “Fixer Upper” for five seasons on HGTV until 2018, are reviving the popular series — this time for their new venture, the forthcoming Magnolia Network, which will replace existing cabler DIY Network early next year. Magnolia is a joint venture between the Gaines and Discovery, Inc.

The couple came to the decision just a few weeks ago after realizing how much they missed the show, Magnolia Network president Allison Page tells Variety. Expect between six and 10 episodes of the new season of “Fixer Upper,” which will continue to be based in Waco, Texas. The Gaines’ production company Blind Nil is producing the reboot; the show will be available on the new network upon launch.

With “Birth of a Nation” as its powerful and wicked origin story, the Hollywood film industry has been shaping the narrative about Black people in America for more than a century. Now as we re-examine many of the false assumptions about American history, Hollywood could play a pivotal role in dismantling tropes it helped create. Some of that work already is being done by filmmakers including Ava DuVernay, Ryan Coogler, Jordan Peele, Lena Waithe, Barry Jenkins and Spike Lee. But we need more.

Studios could seek projects that present a more authentic narrative and reconsider some of the formulas that drive creative decisions. But first the facts need to be right and the history needs to be accurate.
