Manji notably bears a "manji" symbol resembling a mirror-image of a Swastika on his back. In Eastern culture this symbol has a deep spiritual meaning. The two symbols are easy to confuse.

U.S. distributor AnimeWorks of Media Blasters advertised the series as being animated by Production I.G's division Bee Train, which is an inaccuracy. Bee Train has been independent of Production I.G since 2006. However Production I.G did co-produce the series with Bee Train.
