Star trek discovery has become a B-class movie. Season 3 doesn't reach up to the level the first two seasons did.
Discovery investigates the source of the burn.
This is a mostly enjoyable episode with some ropey moments, but for me it is nowhere near as bad as the majority of negative reviews suggest.
I think it gets off to a stuttering start, with too much build up, hugging and pep talks before the away mission. Burnham's involvement once more has to be explained in another contrived scene of dialogue prior to the mission. At worst this feels like the writers being self-consciousness about the continued focus on the character and the need to justify it. At best it is just awkward exposition in the build-up to her possibly taking command.
The away mission starts off quite intriguing. Some unsubtle exposition dialogue, such as the over explaining the Kelpian's mental state creeps in from time to time. However it compelled me to want to find out what was going on.
Unfortunately, for me it the biggest problem is that it contains a fairly underwhelming explanation of very important plot point for the series. I hope some logic or plausibility is added in the next few episodes.
The plot line taking place on Discovery is somewhat better. Tilly's first moment in the chair is done in a pretty cinematic way. The way she looks at it, walks over and sits in it is very well done. I am a Tilly fan and as much as her being in command feels silly, she is as likeable as ever. She does not suddenly change into a different person in command, but she does appear to be someone who underneath all the social awkwardness and confidence issues is finding the strength to do the job. The villain hasn't convinced me yet, but I have hope this character will develop soon.
I thought the visuals were as strong as ever and all performances were excellent, especially Doug Jones and Mary Wiseman.

We are approaching the end of this season, and STD still has no soul.
Burnham has long been demoded, but is still in charge and still strangely vital to every away mission with her tilted head and whisper mode.
55 minute episode is actually 40 minutes of emotions, bland, uninteresting dialogue, and a ridiculous verbal cat fight.
The plot was obviously uninteresting to the characters, and apparently the actors, too. Or, are they just so unskilled?
*Negative reviews like mine aren't because I am a Star Trek hater, it's because I'm a *fan*! People in charge of this production need to fire every writer, director, and replace the crew before next season - or just cancel it!

I don't get all the bad reviews! I've been a Star Trek fan my entire life. I remember wearing my Deanna Troi costume to the theaters when a movie would come out! Yes Star Trek has "evolved" but it is still amazing! Have a little bit of an open mind people.

I don't understand why trekkies are obsessed with bagging out this show. Stop watching it then.
This was a solid episode with great plot twists. Excellent story arch and this season has been a far improvement on the other two. Loved it

Finally an episode that moves you and makes you wonder if they will succeed or not. Enough of the crying in every episode and wondering when to cry again. The old series TNG, Voyager, 00s Enterprise had so much action and 50/50 chances to to beat the enemy, without wondering when to cry.
Make more episode like this one. Stop with the fillers and make it more dynamic with stories that span within the next two or three episodes.

There's no science, logic, or reason on this show.
Things just happen. Nothing makes sense.
Not sure what this is, but this isn't Star Trek anymore.

But big up for Saru finally getting some screen time without five hours of makeup chair! :) But not really fond of holo deck based episodes, but it could be worse!! Great little history lesson on the Kelp'ies.
Loved that none of the away team members mentioned the flying giant fish dragons, they were obviously added after the script and filming was done, so the actors had no idea they were there.
Great CGI in general, especially the "monster". And there are some great set pieces built for the episode.
Overall: 6.7

This season has been bad but this episode dragged it to new lows. Whoever developed this season's storyline should be fired. They are going lose a lot of viewers.

So ive been very underwhelmed by this season of Disco...there was so much potential for great new ideas and storylines, but its largely been not realized.
Su'Kal is what this series should be like: Minimal touchy feely but using science fiction to use a different way to look at the human psyche. Having the away team change appearance thing was a little hokey, but we finally got a combination of the visuals that modern day ST can give along with a TNG like story.
This is my first 10 star review for Disco, I had been losing interest for most of this season, but remember that Season 1+2 of TNG were quite awful...hopefully Disco has found its footing as well.
I'm sorry but the amount of 1 and 2 stars that are dropped weekly on every episode of this TV Show is pathetic. I kindly urge you all to stop watching it and stop wasting your time if you hate it so much. Its that simple. Feels like you lot come in here with egos like you're professionals in the television industry. with reviews that at this point feel abit to repetitive. I sometimes feel that you lot only watch each episode to write a negative review.
It wasn't the best episode but I sure did enjoy it. It didn't blow me out my seat, It didn't make me drool in surprise but I didn't feel the sense of boredom or anger once and that for me is enough. It's clear to see that the Star Trek franchise decided to gamble with Star Trek Discovery and I feel it isn't doing a bad job. So at the end of the day, if you don't like it just turn it off, it's that simple.

What happened to the writing quality? The story is so flimsy. Tilly should only be allowed to command a caravan.
The source of the burn? The worst ever.
Without giving away the plot, this episode centres on the Holodeck, which hasn't been used much before in this series.
Some fine acting with subtle emotions.
Several unexpected twists.

This one is just a personal thing: I hate the parts of stories in which the villain chews the scenery during momentary triumphs that the structure of the show/book/film/story dictates will ultimately become defeats. It's the only time I ever want to fast forward but frustratingly cannot lest I lose the context that will later drive the plot.
Nevertheless, a seven, as this is well done.

When I look through another shot of the ship where there seems to be mist everywhere, where an away missions must be preluded with personal emotional talks, where I don't see people playing the part but just acting putting up their most emotional face...
It is when I truly think the original core of Star Trek is gone. It used to be something that explored the unseen universe, seeking out realities that could possible exist.
Now it is seeking out personal bonds that do exist and are too cheesy to be watched upon. Future outer space seems a good birthing ground for woke intergalactic writers.
In media, we are not sending space ships to Mars to explore Mars, we are sending them to explore human nature.
Please bring Star Trek on a level again to explore the strange unknown. Data was an unknown, Spock was our logic self fighting against our animal brain (In a way, data was Spock^2). The overemotional side of ourself is not something we want to explore in a sci-fi series. We have Friends for that sort of crap... in this we want Star Trek. And you writers should read all the reviews of this season and *bleeping* lissen. Where there is smoke, there must be fire.
