Millennials and early Gen Zs know the quality of cartoons that used to air on TV. Shows like Ben 10, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and more have become legendary due to their creative animation and amazing storytelling. So many iconic moments have been witnessed by kids around the world and are still remembered.

However, the old-era cartoons have been perceived to be ended. A generation that has entered adulthood seems to have a disconnect with more recent animated shows for kids. Even popular shows like Amphibia are being criticized for deriving too much from classic anime like Dragon Ball Z.

Jim Krieg started his writing career working on the likes of X-Men: The Animated Series and Ben 10: Alien Force before making the leap to the DC Universe. There, he's lent his talents to everything from Green Lantern: The Animated Series to Teen Titans Go!, Young Justice, and many more.
The prolific writer has also served as a producer on countless DC animated movies, both before and during the recent "Tomorrowverse" era.
With the Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy, he returns to his roots as a writer and recently sat down with us to discuss his work on the third and final chapter. As well as sharing new details about Kevin Conroy's original role as Batman in the movie, Jim also takes us through the cameos which didn't make the cut, the logistics of telling this story, and why he made sure to give Batman Beyond a role here.

You know what was perhaps the biggest, most climactic crossover in history? Here’s a hint, it’s not the portal scene from Avengers: Endgame, and don’t even think about Deadpool & Wolverine. It was when Ben 10 joined forces with Rex in the one-hour-long special Generator Rex episode that aired on Cartoon Network.
Avengers: Endgame (2019) | Marvel Studios
The amalgamation of that animated duo was so apical that it is still held special in many a millennial’s heart (and perhaps some Gen Z with good taste). And rightly so.

Captain America’s fabled ‘Avengers, assemble!’ command alone evoked a sense of harmony and an influx of overwhelming emotion in a fandom comprising more than thousands of people from all around the world.

2007 saw Michael Bay helming the first of many Transformers features for the big screen, which led to Hasbro prioritizing their big-screen releases over animations. However, Bay’s big-budget blockbuster wasn’t the lone Transformers release of the year, as it also saw the debut of one of the most beloved Transformers animated shows, Transformers: Animated.
But despite its critical success, Cartoon Network eventually pulled off the plugs from the show after three seasons, and it had to do with the success of shows like The Clone Wars and Alien Force.
Transformers: Animated Was Cancelled for Not Being Mature Like Star Wars: The Clone Wars Transformers: Animated | Cartoon Network
Since the original American-Japanese animated television series aired in 1984, there has been a plethora of Transformers cartoons over the years. However, the 2007 reimagination of the IP, which borrowed the art style of Teen Titans, was a departure from the traditional Transformer animated releases.

Transformers Animated came to an end with its third season, but it wasn’t always intended to be that way! Various plans existed for a fourth season that would have continued the story of the series and taken it in a new direction.
Transformers Animated (2007)
During the brainstorming phase for the fourth season, Marty Isenberg, the story editor, envisioned a narrative that would span both Cybertron and Earth. The focal point would remain on Cybertron, the homeworld of the Transformers, but the discovery of new energon deposits on Earth, originating from shards of the AllSpark, would necessitate the Autobots’ continued defense against the energy-starved Decepticons on our planet as well.
Suggested“Young Justice should deal with these issues”: One DC Hero Became a Symbol of Mental Health after Showrunners Talked to an Iraqi Vet Suffering Ptsd
According to Isenberg, season 3 embraced a more traditional Autobot vs. Decepticon war narrative.

There have been a lot of "Transformers" cartoons since 1984. Most of them (and I say this as a fan) are pretty unimpressive. One of the best ones is "Transformers: Animated," which aired from 2007 to 2009 on Cartoon Network. Network executive Sam Register created the series like it was "Teen Titans" with robots. Register even recruited one of that show's character designers, the late Derrick J. Wyatt, resulting in a similar art style.
"Animated" broke away from past series' tenets, transforming them you might say — the show's team even cast Megatron voice actor extraordinaire David Kaye as Optimus Prime instead. The series was explicitly pitched as "more like a superhero show than a 'Transformers' show" (read the original production bible here for many tantalizing insights and scrapped ideas). The Autobots each had unique powers and faced off against human villains; against the Decepticons, they were definite underdogs.

Son Goku might be the most iconic protagonist of all time, and fans believe that Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball features the strongest character to be ever featured in any manga or anime. However, this remains an extremely debatable topic if he is the strongest character ever because each time when one thinks that the character has reached the pinnacle of strength, he will shatter his limits and become better than his former self.
Goku Ui transformation in The Tournament of Power
Intriguingly, this has led to the popular meme called ‘ But can he beat Goku?’, where the fans of the series use it to show off the character’s strength. However, it looks like Kakarot has a new opponent, as fans argue on social media if Ben Tennyson, the wearer of the most powerful weapon in the universe, can take on the Saiyan in a fight.

Prolific animation writer-producer Nicole Dubuc will receive the WGA West’s 2018 Animation Writers Caucus Animation Writing Award tonight at the annual Awc awards ceremony at the guild’s headquarters in Los Angeles.
Dubuc, who’s been nominated for seven daytime Emmys for writing and producing children’s animation shows, currently serves as the showrunner of the upcoming Disney Junior series The Rocketeer.
The award is presented to caucus members who have advanced the literature of animation in film and television throughout the years and made outstanding contributions to the profession of the animation writer.
“Nicole Dubuc has accomplished more in her time as an animation writer than most of us do in careers that are twice as long,” said WGA West president David A. Goodman. “She has crossed genres, busted barriers, and broken through ceilings not only as a writer, but also as a showrunner, an actress, and a labor leader.

It is almost exactly one-and-a-half years since the passing of media maestro Dwayne McDuffie, known more widely for his writing on the various "Justice League" cartoon series of the past decade, as well as for "Ben 10: Alien Force/Ultimate Alien," but more prominent as a comic book writer, enthusiast and advocate for better Black representation in that medium which he backed up in 1993 by being the co-founder of Milestone Media, which, along with other Black creators, established a universe within a universe at DC Comics (home to Superman, Batman, etc) populated by mostly Black and ‘minority’ heroes such as Hardware, Icon, the Blood Syndicate, and their most continual...

If you’re a long time Blogomatic 3000 visitor you’ll probably know that I’m a bit of a comic fan, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I’m a fan of “Man of Action”, the group comprised of comic writers and artists Duncan Rouleau, Joe Casey, Joe Kelly and Steven T Seagle, who created Ben 10 and Generator Rex, and have been involved in the new Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.
For those of you not down with the kids, Ben 10 is a cartoon about a boy who acquires a watch-like alien device called the Omnitrix which allows him to transform into a range of bizarre looking alien creatures. Ben 10 has since been succeeded by Ben 10: Alien Force, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, and Ben 10: Omniverse. Each new cartoon series has seen the characters mature, introduced or altered existing relationships, introduced new villains and alien transformations.

"Ben 10," arguably one of the best original superhero concepts to come out of the past decade, has been one of Cartoon Network's most popular cartoon series for quite some time now. Spawning two sequel series and multiple straight to TV movies, it's no wonder that Hollywood now has their collective eye on the sensational sci-fi property.
During a recent interview with Man of Action Studios, the creators of "Ben 10" and producers of the upcoming "Ultimate Spider-Man" cartoon, the team confirmed that there are indeed plans for a live action "Ben 10" movie. Already attached to the project is famed producer Joel Silver, who's resume includes the likes of "Die Hard," "Predator," "Lethal Weapon," "V For Vendetta," the entire "Matrix" trilogy, and many other well known, big budget movies. Clearly, "Ben 10" is in very capable hands.

Joel Silver is not one to give up on a concept. After the abysmal failure of 'Speed Racer,' he's going to take another crack at kids cartoon fare by developing a live-action feature film based on the Cartoon Network's 'Ben 10' animated sci-fi franchise. And, according to Variety, he has plans to take it to Warner Bros. in hopes of creating a new franchise.
For those of you without pre-adolescent boys or an interest in animated fare, Ben Tennyson is a typical kid who becomes very atypical after he discovers the Omnitrix, a mysterious, alien watch-like weapon with the power to transform the wearer into 10 different alien species with superpowers, which he uses to save the world. The first series began in 2005; followed by a somewhat darker second series, 'Ben 10: Alien Force,' in 2008; followed by a third series,...

Ben 10 Alien Force, Vol. 8
DVD
Featuring the voices of Wil Wheaton, John Dimaggio, Yuri Lowenthal
Cartoon Network
Release Date: August 24, 2010
If I could name this volume of Ben 10: Alien Force, I would call it “The Rogue Gallery,” since the five episodes in this volume featured villains from Ben Tennyson’s past. For those not familiar with the cartoon, Ben Tennyson is no ordinary teenager. Not only is he a part of a secret intergalactic police group known as the Plumbers, but he is also the sole bearer of the Omnitrix, a device that allows him to transform into various alien beings. With Gwen, his cousin and fellow Plumber, and her love interest Kevin, they embark on adventures filled with aliens, bounty hunters, and spell casters.
I have reviewed my fair share of Ben 10 episodes and I am happy to report that these episodes are just as good as the previous.

Here's a show I would have loved as a kid. While watching Cartoon Network's Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, one can practically taste the "sweet" cereal being spooned into their mouth... even though the show airs Sunday nights. And the Ben 10 story is a sweet one indeed. The series, basically about a boy who gets an alien device (the Omnitrix) attached to his arm that allows him to turn into various alien creatures, first debuted in 2005 as simply Ben 10. 2008 saw the mutation of Ben 10 into Ben 10: Alien Force, set five years later, and featuring more mature characters and darker, more complex plots. And yet again, in 2010, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien was born.

You would think that June 28 was the second coming of Earth Day considering that every possible Earth related DVD in North America is coming out at the same time on DVD. Let's do the round up shall we?
BBC's 'How the Earth Made Us,' National Geographic's 'How the Earth Changed History,' History's 'How the Earth Was Made' and Universal's 'Earth: Final Conflict.' are all coming out on DVD.
If the Earth is not so much your thing, but aliens and the paranormal are more your cup of tea -- then this week is also for you with the releases of 'Ben 10: Alien Force,' 'Paranormal Cops,' 'Warehouse 13' and of course '13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.'
Find out the rest of new shows being released on DVD this week after the jump!

The upcoming "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths" animated film marks the return of Dwayne McDuffie to the characters he wrote in both the "Justice League" comic series and the "Justice League Unlimited" animated series.
"It was really fun to get back with the old characters again," McDuffie told MTV News during the Los Angeles premiere of "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths." "To have a budget like this, to have talented directors, story board artist and musicians and the great actors we had who were able to take what was good about the old show to an entirely new level. You've never seen superhero action like this in any kind of animated film. It's just amazing."
McDuffie also revealed that he will be writing two additional DC animated movies, following the previously announced "Batman: Under The Red Hood" by Judd Winick.

If there aren't already enough Star Wars video games for your liking, you can make your own with Cartoon Network's Star Wars: The Clone Wars Game Creator.
With the animated action show continuing to draw big numbers on Friday nights, its home network is serving up a chance for fans to build their own Clone Wars game and share it with other gamers.
According to the network, these game creators aren't a stunt to generate TV show buzz. The Ben 10: Alien Force Game Creator posted more than 630 million game plays since it went live a year ago, with more than 4.6 million games created by online visitors.
Once fans open their game creator, they choose their character (Anakin Skywalker, Captain Rex or Cad Bane) and their vehicle (At-te, At-rt or Speeder), allowing nine different combinations of character abilities and vehicle powers.

Bad news for Dollhouse, as Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reports. Fox Won’T be airing Dollhouse during November (a ratings Sweeps month). The ratings-challenged show will then return December 4, airing two episodes back to back every Friday (probably until they run out). Repeats of House and Bones will substitute on Fridays in November. See this link.
Starlog favorite Katee Sackhoff will be the next genre personality (after Summer Glau and Wil Wheaton) to make a pilgrimage to The Big Bang Theory. The Battlestar Galactica heroine will appear on the November 23 episode.
Atypically, tonight (Thursday) only features One new genre entry: Flashforward (“Gimme Some Truth,” ABC, 8 p.m. Est). The CW fields two repeats: the just-renewed The Vampire Diaries (“The Night of the Comet,” 8 p.m.) and Supernatural (“Sympathy for the Devil,” the fifth season opener,...

Fox has renewed The Cleveland Show for nine more episodes—of its second season. Due to animation production demands, Cleveland already had a full first season order and a 13-episode second year Before it premiered to impressive ratings. Now, Fox has made that a full second year, guaranteeing The Cleveland Show at least a 44-episode run.
Meanwhile at NBC, Heroes is two-thirds through production of its 18-episode fourth season. Its unimpressive ratings certainly point to that being all. On the other hand, so many things Aren’T working on NBC, that maybe Heroes will survive as one of the network’s Least worries.
Fox has cut its 13-episode order for Past Life, basically Cold Case with reincarnation elements. There will now be just seven episodes of the mid-season replacement.
Thursday and Friday continue to be The genre nights on television.

Established 1974! Our news column knows Love Never Dies, it just lingers on in a coma.

One of the byproducts of Disney’s deal to acquire Marvel is that it has jumpstarted more Marvel movies previously incubating (or in a coma) at other studios, which are now very interested in retaining whatever film rights they have. Thus, Variety reports, Sony is developing Venom, spinning off that Marvel antagonist/anti-hero from Spider-man 3 into his own picture. Gary Ross (Pleasantville, Seabiscuit) would write and maybe direct this one, which probably Wouldn’T star Topher Grace (Eddie Brock/Venom in Spider-man 3). For more, see the link.
Love Never Dies, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage musical sequel to his Phantom Of The Opera megahit, is still in the works, though it got rescheduled. It’ll now open in London in March,...
