Scalene director Zack Parker will have his thriller Proxy debut through video-on-demand April 18th, 2014. IFC Midnight will debut the film on various formats, with a theatrical launch also taking place, simultaneously. The film stars: Joe Swanberg (V/H/S), Kristina Klebe (Zone of the Dead), Alexa Havins and Alexia Rasmussen. Fans of thrillers can preview the launch here. The film begins with a very pregnant, young woman, named Esther (Rasmussen). Esther is attacked close to her due date, but she finds solace in a survivor therapy group. But, some of Esther's new friends have nefarious intentions. Proxy has received several positive reviews, already. Mike Pereira likes the film's straight-forward narrative style: "it unapologetically aims for the audience’s throat and doesn’t waste any time in doing so." Parker's storytelling is often terse as seen in his previous thriller Scalene. As well, Scott Weinberg of FearNet notices the film's sombre tones: "[it is] a shocking tale of.

Genre actress and fan-fave Kristina Klebe sat down with us over the weekend to talk about her role in director Milan Todorović’s upcoming "murderous mermaid" flick (and more), and since she’s all sorts of awesome, you’ll read this. Mamula), a feature which revolves around two young American women who go on a Mediterranean vacation, only to uncover the watery lair of a killer mermaid hidden beneath an abandoned military fortress. “Two things attracted me to Nymph,” stated Klebe of the seemingly Thale-esque project, which was penned by Barry Keating from a story by Marko Backovic, and...

Someone needs to tell Ken Foree that he doesn’t need to do every horror movie that comes his way and more importantly, that not every zombie movie is written and directed by George Romero. Unfortunately, for the horror legend, he seemed unaware of these two things when he signed onto the 2009 Serbian horror, Zone of the Dead (released in the U.S./UK as Apocalypse of the Dead), and the end result is an unintentionally cheesy film that fails and tries too hard at paying homage to past zombie classics.
The film follows a rookie detective, Agent Mina Milius (Kristina Klebe), as she embarks on her first field assignment to transport a prisoner along with her fellow Interpol agents, including Mortimer Reyes (Foree). Like anyone’s first day at work, things go horrible awry for the self-conscious officer and her company, and they find themselves stranded in a town...

The theme for this year’s B-Movie, Underground and Trash Film Festival, held in the city of Breda in the Netherlands, is “Apocalypse.” So get ready to watch the world end dozens of different ways on Sept. 5-9 at various venues around the city.
The fun kicks off on the 5th with the German movie Hell by director Tim Fehlbaum. If you didn’t know, “hell” means “bright” in German and, given that title, this flick is set appropriately in a post-apocalyptic future where global warming has decimated the planet and surviving tribes battle for water and food.
Other post-apocalyptic visions include Milan Konjevic’s Zone of the Dead starring legendary zombie killer Ken Foree; Davi de Oliveira Pinheiro’s Bazillian underground hit Beyond the Grave about a world where magic and madness rule the world; and Rob van Eyck’s bizarrely twisted Afterman and Afterman 2.

Horror Channel have announced a double bill season of brain-munching zombie movies. Including five UK TV premieres. Rising up from the Friday 6th April are a putrid plethora of zombie movies, both contemporary and classic, celebrating the popularity of one of the genre’s most enduring archetypal villains. Flesh Eaters is Joe McKinney's third novel set in the Houston area, where several hurricanes have left residents without their homes and most of their hope. This title recently released in paper back form (April 5th, 2011) and the novel's plot puts two families squarely against each other, while a zombie styled apocalypse threatens to wipe both clans from the face of the earth. The result is a triple threat, as a natural disaster, moaning cannibals and bank robbing police officers each vie for your engrossed attention.
However, there is a central difference between Eleanor, a police sergeant and Mark Shaw, a career officer and captain. The latter character, while honourable in his attempts to save survivors, is centrally motivated by avarice. Eleanor is less externally motivated...

Yesterday news broke that porn diva Jenna Jameson might be starring in the sequel to Zone of the Dead, titled Island of the Damned. Well, said news not only broke but was broken. Something smelled fishy to begin with, and it wasn't the porn stars. Time to set the record straight.
Filmmaker Milan Todorovic got in touch and let us know the following.
"First - this is Not the sequel of Zone of the Dead," Todorovic tell us. "Second - the people who originally reported it made the news sound as if Ken Foree and Jenna both signed the deal. In reality they're part of a wish list. Ken hasn't signed this or anything. I have mentioned it to him, but only in an informal manner. As for Jenna Jameson, that was just my answer to the reporter asking, 'Would you like to have Jenna in it?', to which I replied,...

Jenna Jameson might be a porn diva, but she knows a thing or two about killing zombies. She starred in the campy, yet fun Zombie Strippers a few years back with Robert Englund, and now she’s about to head into action with Ken Foree (Dawn of the Dead) in Island of the Damned, a sequel to the Serbian splatterfest, Zone of the Dead.
Says the source, “the adventure takes place on the Indonesian island of Bawean, where an elite team of agents of Serbian origin and a group of porn divas fight for their lives running away from zombies. The film authors’ idea was to relocate the plot to the island of Goli otok, which would add a political touch to the film, as the appearance of zombies is attributed to communist experiments performed on the island.”
Nothing is set in stone yet, as casting will take place later in 2011 for a 2012 shoot.

Over the years we've watched Jenna Jameson spread lots of things, but this time it looks as if she's set to get all sticky in a far different manner. That's right, kids! Jameson (Zombie Strippers) just might be tangoing with the undead again very soon.
Blic Online is reporting that Jenna may be joining Ken Foree, who'll be reprising his role as Agent Mortimer Reyes in the sequel to the Serbian zombie fest Zone of the Dead, which is now being called Island of the Damned instead of Wrath of the Dead. Following along? Good.
In the movie Agent Reyes is called to the Indonesian island of Bawean to rescue "porn divas" from the walking dead. As with the first film, there is of course some kind of Communist conspiracy going on that has caused the rise of the flesh-eating fiends.
Look for more on this one soon!
Update
Heard from the filmmakers.

Jenna Jameson may be joining Ken Foree ( Dawn of the Dead ) for Island of the Damned , a sequel to the Serbian zombie horror film Zone of the Dead , in which Foree stars. It appears some drastic things have changed to the plot since we last reported on the sequel in 2010 when it was announced under the title Wrath of the Dead . According to Blic Online, Foree is reprising his role as Agent Mortimer Reyes who is called to an the Indonesian island of Bawean to rescue "porn divas" from the walking dead. Some sort of communist conspiracy is behind the rise of the corpses. The funny thing about Blic's report is that it states Jameson will star, but they follow it with co-director Milan Todorovic saying he would "love" Jameson to be featured in the film....

*A review copy of this novel was generously provided by Joe McKinney.
Author: Joe McKinney.
Dead City is Joe McKinney's first novel and this book started at least a four book trend, with Apocalypse of the Dead, Flesheaters, and King Zombie to follow. Published first in 2006, the version reviewed here is a 2010 re-release, with chapters from Apocalypse of the Dead added. Dead City follows Aristotle's three unities: unity of time, unity of place and unity of action. The unity of the material is not in question, but the novel's lack of deeper characterizations, or insights into the central protagonist are. Some fans will enjoy all the simple run-and-gun, in a zombie filled San Antonio; however, this reviewer started to wonder what the greater purpose was, in all the violence.
Eddie is a beat cop, with a young family. He is on duty when the usual bums and low-lifes turn into man-eating vessels.

There is a running joke here at 28Dla.com of reviewing the sequels of books and then, this reviewer goes back to look at the original. This strange trend continues. This zombie lover read the bibliography on author Joe McKinney's website and there, this title was listed first, Apocalypse of the Dead. However, Apocalypse of the Dead is, of course, the second book in a series, which is led by Dead City. McKinney will follow-up these two novels with Flesheaters releasing in April, 2011 and Zombie King in 2012. This is an epic zombie novel series, with Apocalypse of the Dead introducing a large, diverse group of characters. The connections between these survivors become more obvious as the zombie plague, spreading across the United States, corals everyone into a Jim Jones,...

Having enjoyed a VOD run and supposedly hitting DVD on March 1st (though we can't find a single place to pre-order) is 2012: Apocalypse of the Dead or Zone of the Dead or whatever they finally decide to call it. Either way we've gotten our hands on some rotting new stills for you!

*Full disclosure: a review copy of this novel was provided by author Craig Dilouie and publishers Schmidt Haus Books.
Tagline: "This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang, not with a whimper, but with a slaughter. This is the story of the soldiers who tried to save it."
Author: Craig Dilouie.
There is something magical that happens while reading Craig Dilouie's Tooth and Nail. Worries fall to the wayside, the trigger finger begins to twitch, the heart races, and the imagination focuses on a darker, more exciting, rage-filled world. This aptly titled novel released April 1st, 2010 by Schmidt Haus Books and this virus plagued fantasy thriller has been described as "unique," (McKinney) a "thrill ride," (D'Orazio) and as the "perfect story" (King). These descriptions work and not since Max Brooks' Recorded Attacks has a story covered the zombie apocalypse with such an interesting, militaristic approach.

Okay, so this week we have covered the "Top Five Indie Horror Films," with an article found here: Best Indie Horror Films of 2010. Also covered was the "Top Five International Horror Films." An article on this posting is here: Top Five International Films. But, now we are exploring a more depraved side of horror, or a lower class of film. This top five list will cover the "Worst Five Horror Films of 2010!"
This year, there was so much to choose from in poor horror films. Abroad, we have the dismal Basement starring Danny Dyer and Jimi Mistry to the absolutely monstrosity of a film from Australia called Outback aka Prey starring the incapable Natalie Bassingthwaighte. Domestically, films like the Zombie Chronicles: The Infected made this reviewer want to scratch his eyes out, while others like Apocalypse of the Dead aka Zone of the Dead made one reach for the off button with lightening like reflexes.

As we reported here, the zombie opus lensed as Zone Of The Dead recently made its pay-cable and video-on-demand debut with the new title 2012: Apocalypse Of The Dead (see some exclusive pics below); it’s also available on UK DVD under that moniker, minus the 2012. As lead actress Kristina Klebe recalls, there was a bit of life imitating art during the Serbian shoot.

Fango has dug up some exclusive pics from the Eastern European zombiefest Zone Of The Dead, which has been retitled 2012: Apocalypse Of The Dead for its recent pay-cable and video-on-demand debut. The Halloween remake’s Ken Foree and Kristina Klebe reunite in this living-dead tale, produced by former Fango contributor Loris Curci and directed by Milan Konjevic and Milan Todorovic.

I don't mean to kick at Zone of the Dead (because lord knows we did that enough here), but since the film recently changed its name to 2012: Apocalypse of the Dead for it's VOD release I thought I'd let you all in on a little secret. They've done this only to trick you into buying it. How, you ask?
Studios and sales teams quickly learned that since VOD channels and online retailers like Netflix list their titles in alphabetical order it helps to start your titles off with a number. That's why almost every new Asylum title starts with a number (and if it doesn't now, chances are it will come time to list on VOD channels). You get seen.
Of course there is nothing inherently wrong with doing this. We've all got a AAA1 Pizza in our local phone books, right? Thing is, nobody orders from them unless...

In The ghoulish tradition of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead comes Serbia's first entry in the zombie genre, entitled Apocalypse of the Dead.
Released by Metrodome on DVD in the UK and Ireland on Monday, March 1, it's directed by Milan Konjevic and Milan Todorovic.
The film stars American actor Ken Foree who, notably, was in the 1979 original of Dawn of the Dead. Foree, 61, was also in Rob Zombie's 2007 remake of Halloween while his surname is referenced in the 2004 spoof Shaun of the Dead.
The actor, in his first lead role for three decades, plays Interpol agent Mortimer Reyes who, with rookie colleague Mina Milius (Kristina Klebe), is part of a group transporting a dangerous prisoner (Emilio Roso) to Belgrade. Klebe was also in the Halloween remake.
They encounter rampaging hordes of zombies in a plague of terror which has been created by a toxic leak and spread by the creatures' blood-thirsty bites.

One of the complaints raised at the special Fangoria 30th-anniversary panel at Spain’s Sitges international film fest (see last report here and go here for the fest’s official site) was the lack of Italian contributions to the current cinematic fright scene. The gruesome 1980s are long gone, where goremeisters such as the late Lucio Fulci ruled the scene. Italian horror directors find it nearly impossible to get their films financed these days, while the master, Dario Argento, appears to have lost his mojo (Mother Of Tears bombed in most territories, and advance buzz on Giallo remains dire).
“It’s very difficult to get horror movies made in Italy, which is why I moved to Bucharest,” says former Fango scribe Loris Curci, who graduated to producing movies in recent years. His efforts include the Ken Foree Croatian/Catalan/American zombie flick Zone Of The Dead, a Sitges premiere,...
